Odd Man Out - Espionage (2013)
>Fusion, “Post-Rock” (VIA Tortoise). Russian Jazz trio Odd Man Out’s second record. I know very little about these guy aside from the fact that this album is fucking sweet. Really chilled out and groovy with good interplay between the players, but at the same time fairly dissonant (by choice). Can sound pretty disjointed but due to the tightness of the band, never jarringly so. Apperently the album is based on 60’s spy movie soundtracks but if you didn’t know that you wouldn’t guess haha. I would say this is for fans of both modern jazz and post-rock (Gastr Del Sol, not Godspeed). Damn good sax playing.

Martin Atkins China Dub Soundsystem - Made in China (2007)
>Experimental Dance Music (EDM haha), Chinese Traditional, Noise/industrial, Hip Hop. Legendary Industrial drummer Martin Atkins released this this shit on his own accord. And oh boy this album is unlike anything else I have heard. Blending a clusterfuck of different influences, MACDE produces a sound that is rooted squarely in Chinese traditional music but the records heart belongs to the dance. Something like if Jam City and Wang Hui-Ran collaborated. It is really hard to talk about (as all music is). Part plunderphonics, but not entirely by any means, the industrial influence is quite prominent but not overpowering. Soundtrack for a country torn between the industrialized future and the rural traditions of the past.

Sweet Smoke - Just A Poke (1970)
>”Krautrock”, Prog-Rock, Psych-Rock, Fusion. Short lived Prog legends Sweet Smoke’s first album is fucking awesome. They would have been lumped in with the Krautrock scene had they been German, but due to their American status (they did move to some commune in Germany around the time of this album, but they were never accepted into the scene) they both never got their dues and broke up after just a few years. They could have had a brilliant career. Flute, keys, fucking amazing drumming and jammed out guitars paint the records walls like a Pollock. Faust and Can withstanding these guys are about as good as Krautrock got. Spaced out and groovy, with amazing instrumentation and composition. I don’t know how else to sell this shit haha.

Christdriver - Everything Burns (1996)
>Industrial, Doom Metal, Noise Rock. Right off the bat I am going to say that a lot of people on here will call this album super edgy or something to that effect. Mostly due to the fairly angst-filled vocal samples running throughout the record. But the music, oh the music. Maybe next to something like Streetcleaner, this is one of the more bleak Industrial albums I have come across. Heavy and angry with no hope on the horizon, Christdriver embraces the dirty gutters of the world and actually revel in them. Tons of doom influence in everything from the drumming to the vocals, but this is first and foremost an Industrial album. Crank this shit as let the hatred fill you. One of my favorite workout albums.

Hall and Oates - Private Eyes (1981)
>80’s Pop, “Blue Eyed Soul” (fuck that term), New Wave. One of the many classic albums that Hall and Oates produced over the years, Private Eyes was a kind of update of their sound. They had already mastered the pop world of the 70’s and with the change in sound at in 80’s they decided that it was their turn to run the pop world once again. This album is pretty striped down and relies mainly on the their strength as singers and their hook writing ability. It might sound a little cheesy or dated but it is as good as 80’s pop music gets.

Christian Loeffler - A Forest (2012)
>Ambient House, Tech House, Deep House. Too often the deep house genre puts all the focus on the bass and how deep they can go. Christian Loeffler uses the bass as just another element of the music and rather than focusing on the music itself he uses the spaces between the music to make the sounds more powerful. By taking just as much from traditional ambient music as modern house, Loeffler creates house soundscapes rather than starkly danceable music. You are more likely to get all pilled up and nod off to this shit than hear it playing in a club. Super chill.

Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, A True Star (1973)
>Heavy Psych, Experimental Rock, Non-Songs. Todd Rundgren the hitmaker, producer and music legend released his masterpiece in 1973 with this album. Does it have the hits of his other albums? Nope. Does it have amazing production like his work with XTC or the Psychedelic Furs? Not on that level no. But is does have the brain of a musical genius on display in all its glory. The first half of the record is a sort of concept album about a boy’s journey through the world (in the style of Zen Arcade), and the second is more traditional despite a strange medley of soul and rock classics. The tracks range from layering squeaky dog toy to covers of songs from peter pan, to accordion centered psych jams. Disjointed and schizophrenic in nature, it loses itself to the craziness of its creator often only to jerk itself out, stronger than ever. As close to a favorite record I have ever had and over the years I have never heard anything that is similar to this.

America - Homecoming (1972)
>Soft Rock, Country Rock, FM Rock. Most people think that aside from Horse with No Name, America were not very memorable. But most people would be wrong. They produced a slew of hits off a ton of different albums, and while they might have a far from perfect discography there were some records that were as good as 70’s rock got. Homecoming is one of those albums. It’s got the hits (Ventura Highway, Don’t Cross the River), quality deep cuts (Cornwall Blank, Moon Song), and is not overly long. Shimmering 12-Strings, great vocal melodies, and upbeat tempos are found on nearly every track on this bad boy. A great summer album that is designed for hot car ride, mountainous hikes or laying in the grass on a nice day.

EPMD - Business As Usual (1990)
>Golden Age Hip-Hop. East Coast. This album starts out with no intro. It sounds like the middle of a song in fact. That's just how EPMD are. No time wasted or space uneeded. No skits, no bullshit. If you listen to hip-hop for the beat or the production, this is not for you. This is rap at it’s most raw. Wu Tang and Nas took influence from these guys (Redman is on some of these tracks), and if you are even a little bit interested in what the East Coast sounded like (Not Tribe or De La Soul) before their explosion, give this a shot. Hip-Hop classic.

Mudhoney - Piece of Cake (1992)
>Grunge, Alt-Rock, Noise Rock. Mudhoney were one of the original bands on the grunge scene and made one of the defining albums of the genre (SuperFuzz), but by 1992 they were kind of lost. Nirvana madness had all but consumed the genre and bands like Pearl Jam had become the face of the scene. But Mudhoney was always there, quietly chugging away and continuing the purest, filthiest form of Grunge there was. With Piece of Cake they proved again that they could hold their own against any of the other groups. Scummy fuzzy guitars drip off the enraged shouts of Mark Arm. The cigarette stained grins of a band realizing that they were outsiders of their own genre are embedded in the fibers of these tracks. Yes it is overly long, and yes not every track is gold. But the ones that are, are amongst the best offering that that the genre put out.

The Dave Pike Set - Album (1971)
>Jazz Fusion, Post-Bop. Legendary Detroit Vibraphonist Dave Pike’s arguably best solo album (just called Album, thanks for that haha). Some of the best goddamn late night jazz fusion vibes I can think of. Ventures into a lot of different styles and incorporates everything from prog to Asian to traditional country influence. The focus is of course the vibraphone and Pike a phenomenal player that always lets the band meld rather than trying to overpower and show off. Great for a midnight toke or if you just want some easy listening but well put together jazz.

Tommy Flanders – The Moonstone (1969)
>Folk, Folk Rock, Psych Folk. A lost classic of the 60’s folk scene, The Moonstone, is not exactly a blow your socks off kind of record. It’s strengths lie in its understated vocals, laid back guitar work, and a solid backing band. The albums flows like a tide and produces a kind of dream state in the vein of David Bixby, Gary Higgins, or maybe Skip Spence. Records like this were pretty commonplace at the time of the recording but it was rare that one was as emotionally open or as well put together as this.

Chariot - Chariot (1968)
>Psych-Rock, Heavy Blues, 60’s Hard Rock. Spaced out but not super psychedelic. Chariot knew where their strengths lied and played off of that. The album is pretty damn riff heavy and is not anything you have not heard before, but they retain a certain amount of an outsider perspective on a genre that at the time was dominated by bands like Cream, and Led Zeppelin. Pretty hard electric blues. If you are into the late 60’s rock scene you will be in heaven. If nothing else, fucking awesome cover haha.

>Psychedelic, Psych Rock. Fucking awesome heavy psych rock from Japan. The bands name comes from each of the band members favorite drug habits (though I have no clue what the hell Shinki is haha). Killer guitar work that has been compared to the Japanese Jimi Hendrix. Wild and heavy, if you are into 60’s and 70’s psych rock this is as good as it gets. Seals & Crofts - Summer Breeze (1972)
>Soft Rock, Pussy Shit. I don't give two splats of an old negro junkie's vomit what you think of Seals and Crofts, this album is goddamn masterpiece. The song layout and melodies on this album along with the production were better than anything else that was going on at the time (aside from something like Steely Dan). Everything from prog-esque breakdowns, unbeatable vocal unison, and solos that impress but don't overindulge, are all over this shit. A masterpiece. And if the name or what you know about this (Summer Breeze, its still fucking awesome), is a deterrent, then I guess you are not open minded enough to enjoy one of the greatest albums of the 70’s.

John Coltrane - The Other Village Vanguard Tapes (1976)
>Jazz, John Fucking Coltrane. Recorded in 1961 at the same time as the original Village Vanguard Recordings, these were the ones that didn’t make the cut. But it is not for a lack of quality just for a lack of what would have been popular. Rather than a focus on the chords, melding of the band, or the solos, Coltrane instead emphases spacey jammed out, drone type shit. Maybe Coltrane’s greatest time period, and this is damn near essential. Plus this version of India on this is the best version.

ÖX - Loch Ness (1990)
>Prog rock, psychedelic/space rock. Formed in 1986 by Edgar Anaya (guitar), Victor Basurto (bass) and Pepe Centurion (drums) LOCH NESS was the root group for the 1990s psychedelic explosion that suddenly appeared in Mexico. On their eponymous debut (1988) the band layed out what the Mexican space rock scene was going to look like for the next few years. While integrating some early krautrock like Guru Guru and Gila, LOCH NESS mixed high octane guitar licks with a slight jazzy undertone in the rhythms.

>Their second album 'Öx' (1990) featured new drummer Arturo Lopez and increased the composition level.
