Ryuichi Sakamoto has cancer of the throat and I'm kind of sad seeing as how I lost my dad last year to cancer and I fucking love Ryuichi Sakamoto, and pretty much all his projects from YMO to his Alva Noto collabs.
Anyways, here's one of my favorites from his album Futurista

Haven't heard of him, but that first song was rad.
Definitely gonna look into him, thanks.
h-he also did the soundtrack to Wings of Honneamise

yea look him up. he's been in a wide range of stuff.

yea it kinda sucks. i know hes older but hes not super old or anything. i guess hes not doing treatment which sucks
playing minimalist piano to Alva Noto's glitch

At least it's throat cancer instead of something like lung cancer. It might ruin his singing voice but it probably won't kill him unless it spread to his lymph nodes or something
I like his pianos.
BTTB album is great.
Favorite video.

I remember the quality wasn't this poor... I have the mp3 saved on the computer but I wish there was a better video somewhere.

i read he cancelled his musical commitments to focus on treatment
>>48614568
oh did he? well thats good. i guess i just read an early statment.

he won some awards for that score. he has a lot of music in that vein though.
Ryuichifags, recommend me a good introductory album for YMO and one for Ryuichi solo.
If that helps, I like Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre.
And on Ryuichi, I love his "Solitude" song, the only one I know.
Sad to know he's got cancer, was he a smoker?
>>48614633
listen to YMOs firrst two albums, thousand knives, and his alva noto collabs to start. yea im sure he smoked. at least in the 70s and 80s

That movie and soundtrack was what finally made me really dig deep into Sakamoto's discography. Before that, I only had two of his albums.

his solo album ???? (Ongaku Zukan), international version is called Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia
I have the jap version and I recommend it.
for YMO go with the first one, if you like it listen to the rest

Thanks a lot, anons! Already downloading.
I don't know how to describe music very well, so the other day I've done a song that expresses what his song Solitude makes me feel. A song about a song, if that makes any sense.

I wish one day I'll achieve half the deepness of his piano melodies, I'm listening to it right now and shivering.
Am I the only one who likes his synth songs more than piano ones?
