>>48082150
I've never heard them before, but this sounds really good
>>48082202
Yes I am super excited for it as well.
I hardly ever see anyone mention Coaltar of the Deepers on here. I know they are no longer around but they had some great shoegaze
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cepeNwnxtzQ
Pastel Blue is a great Japanese shoegaze band too, in fact I've been getting into a lot of Japanese shoegaze recently. These guys are like Japans Slowdive counterpart
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMuNjgULtE8
And if you like super dreamy yet crunchy shoegaze, watch this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFm9AZmdCpc
Just recently discovered Cheatas. Very good stuff!
I've been rediscovering old Starflyer 59 stuff, specifically Leave Here A Stranger and Gold. These albums are seriously under appreciated.
I'm so hyped for new the LSD and the search for God LP
does anyone know the release date?
>>48082268
This is their new style, where they try to be like Lovesliescrushing, which is the guys, or Scott Cortez's, other band.
Here is some classic Astrobrite, in which they were more structured and typical in a sense
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJwKs19LChQ
Flying Saucer Attack
>>48082341
Is it confirmed for a full length?
>>48082341
The band and fans have all been saying that sense the release of the EP, I doubt we will ever see it unless I missed something...
>>48082367
>>48082354
their label said about it coming this year but that was in janurary
>>48082328
>Starflyer 59
I remember reading album reviews on wikipedia and allmusic and I was surprised to find that some of their albums are labeled Christian Rock
Any album recs for them?
>Lush - Light From a Dead Star
>Lush - Sweetness and Light
I think I just fall in love.
I been listening to Harq al'Ada lately. I'm liking how it crosses the shoegaze/dreamy sound with that psych/synth vibe.
>>48082300
Some more Japanese shoegaze i've really been into lately
Clams, great rockish shoegaze
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj7mFRu_hJg
Tatuki Seksu, some might hate the cutesie anime like vocals but I don't mind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hIHFQ_29Q4
Tokyo Shoegazer, I hope you've heard of these guys by now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=natQF-y0Ez8
Cruyff in the Bedroom, give the video a second to start
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afroEg37g8w
>>48082300
Coaltar of the Deepers sounded pretty good. I like that they play faster than most shoegaze bands, kind of like Ride.
The Stargazer Lilies sound great as well.
Wow! Pastel Blue sounds really good. I need to finish the rest of this, but the opening track is mind blowing.
Japanese Shoegaze is great. It's one of the reasons I want to go to Japan. To see these bands in person.
looking for more acoustic guitar shoegaze, best example is obviously Something
>>48082625
Yeah shoegaze is bigger in Japan then most other countries, and on top of that I feel like they are the ones who are/have been pushing the genre in new directions. I'd very much love to visit myself and hopefully have a chance to see them live, but Japan is just cool all the way around, I'd love to live there instead actually..
Here is what I'm listening to right now, not Japanese but still good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWG4o4lGFEc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n1sjqj356g
>>48082625
I went to Japan last year. Got drunk with a bunch of locals and headed off to a karaoke bar in Kyoto. All they sung was J-Pop, Beatles and MBV. Shit was so cash.
>>48082399
The reason for the Christian rock label was that they were on the Christian label tooth and nail for a while. Other than that they don't really have any religious themes in their music except for one song.
Check out Silver for space rock meets shoegaze, Gold and Americana for stripped down shoegaze, and my favorite, Leave here a stranger for gorgeous dream pop. The rest of their discography is pretty good, but it ranges from pop to really depressing acoustic pop.
does anyone else hum with the singer in your favorite shoegaze tracks?
>>48083263
That is pretty normal for any genre, but yes
>>48082328
Hell yeah, Starflyer 59. One Shot Juanita at the end of Gold always tears myself in two.
>>48082623
Clams sound badass
Tatuki Seksu is pretty good. The vocals aren't bad, they remind me of Lush.
Of course, I know Tokyo Shoegazer. They were the first Japanese shoegaze band I heard. I guess they broke up.
Cruyff in the Bedroom sounds really good as well
>>48083029
How much of their discography is shoegazey? Just the early stuff?
>>48082887
Livin' the dream, anon
It's such a shame these threads always die so quick
This 'official' Slowdive bootleg is pretty cool.
>>48083633
It's not dead yet, anon. Don't worry
>>48083572
everything from 1993 to 2003 is shoegaze and dream pop. Talking voice vs singing voice is the only other dream pop album they've done past 2003. Don't bother listening to the one album with the yellow number on the cover. Can't remember what it's called right now. It's shit. Also check out their early eps. Some really good stuff.
>>48082799
Did you mean "Sometimes"? Sorry anon that song is not acoustic, you can just hear the strumming, which was amplified to create a sense of it being acoustic. This is the only artist that comes to mind, all their EPs have that same sound, just not really big walls of sound,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku1T6suhoEs

I know this isn't a BC thread, but what do you guys think?
http://themurdermystery.bandcamp.com/
All we do is listen to Ride, Spacemen 3 and shit. We went to Austin Psych Fest and a had a blast.
>>48082066
I'm going to see them at P4k. Has their reunion been as good as adverised?
Already seen MBV. All I would really need is a good Swervedriver tour and Ride to reunite. Ride is probably the only band (well, maybe REM) that I would fly out to go see somewhere if they reunited. I would literally flip my shit.
>>48085616
What backlash? It get's posted constantly and everybody says either they like it or that it's meh.
Frankly i found it mostly irritating and incoherent. I usually really enjoy structural experimentation, but it just sort of hit me disengenuine babbling.
I think the material may translate better live, but I've not seen them perform.

A few songs here and there because I'm also a sucker for britpop, but they clearly peaked at GBA. While Nowhere is their best album, "Leave Them All Behind" is their best song.
>>48085943
You know who else puts on a great show? Medicine. Their set at Austin Psych Fest was intense and loud. To The Happy Few was a great comeback.
>>48085688

Thanks for this m8
I used to be way into shoegaze but somehow I gradually got bored of everything but MBV and Astrobrite, excluding the later albums where it's lost all structure.
Anything like that come out these days? I feel like a lot of shoegazey music lacks the same force. Last thing I heard that sounded interesting were Fleeting Joys which sadly I could not get into due to the fact that I hated the vocals.

And I think that To Here Knows When is the best distillation of the guitar that I've heard. There's barely any trace of the typical functioning of the guitar, just the essence of it roaring out directly, but in a well-crafted way, not merely blaring noise for the sake of noise. Which sounds pretty pretentious but it's a cool fucking track is what I'm trying to say.

oh hell yes. some of the high points of my life were listening to a shoegaze album while blazed out of my mind. Notables include Flying Saucer Attack S/T and Grandeur of Hair by the Goslings which you see posted around a lot.
Unfortunately successive listens while high aren't as cool since you get desensitized. Eventually you find yourself straining your ears to hear something more even after you've explored every nook and cranny of your favorite albums. But It's still pretty awesome

IMO shoegaze's biggest loss is the fact that Ambulance LTD never got the attention it deserved. They released one fantastic LP (entitled simply 'LP') and a great EP. They were in the process of recording a second album that was being produced by their fan John Cale (ya know, the original violist/bassist of The Velvet Underground, who also produced Patti Smith's Horses and the first Stooges record), but their record label went bankrupt and wouldn't let them out of their contract, meaning they couldn't release any material for years and as such have been effectively inactive. Despite essentially being a shoegaze band, they're actually a pretty eclectic indie pop group.

Currently bumping it for the first time. Its pretty neat.

used to be my favorite album
it's like 2/3rds chiptune 1/3 shoegaze
their later album is pretty good but they flipped it to 1/3rd chiptune and 2/3rd shoegaze
also the dudes in that band went to form the pains of being pure at heart
>>48085688
can we make an essentials list for obscure albums that plebs call a 10/10? it would have to have this and velocity design comfort

Not shoegaze, but love the Rev
This thread is awesome I just got like 6 albums and every one of them sounds great.
I've been listening to Slowdive's Just For A Day, and Lemon's Chair, a japanese shoegaze band.
if you want to hear some great melancholic shoegaze/post-rock check out Lemon's Chair - I Hate? I Hope?

Some anon mentioned a mixtape with cloud rap beats that only use shoegaze songs as a source material, does anyone know what I'm talking about?
>>48103801
i like that record a lot. it wasn't shoegaze's biggest loss though, that is a morbid exaggeration.
>>48096120
coolio. where can i dload some astrobrite?

this is wonderful, the vocals might be a little bit weird in the verse though
What did you guys think of the new LSD and the Search for God single? I thought it was OK. Nothing amazing, but still good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEiNsD0iIQc

Great band, underrated in the gazing scene.
Am I the only one who thinks pic related definitely qualifies as shoegaze? Seriously the whole thing is full of reverb and synths and shit.
the problem with a lot of shoegaze is that the chord progression is so uninspiring. usually it's two chords alternating for the rest of the song and slap on some reverb and muff to that.
to contribute here's some kinoko teikoku, this song pretty much got me hooked on this band.

Listening to a lot of Craft Spells. Followed them around on tour for a few shows; their latest release 'Nausea' is a fresh new Dream pop sound, very different from 'Idle Labor'. Listening to lots of Wild Nothing too. Really hope they make a full length going in the direction they went in 'Empty Estate', I dig it. I met Jack Tatum in New York a couple weeks back; really chill, humble dude.
New recs go to Seapony, Tamaryn, Small Black.

I saw them live yesterday evening. They were fucking great. I honestly think they might be one of the biggest names in shoegaze currently.
Also they're all really chill in person.
