Any shoegaze enthusiasts here? How come Ride's Vapour Trail (and their album Nowhere by extension) considered a masterpiece and one of the greatest tracks in this genre? I'm a pleb so I don't understand the significance in this song. Please help me understand. Is the lyrics? Or is it the song structure?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygGw_zo_W8A
When I listen to something else from the same genre like Machine Gun by Slowdive with my oblivious ear, I'd think it's a better song than Ride's Vapour Trail.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ylunl72PyE
Also I think that Ride's Cali out of their latest album after a 21-year hiatus is more enjoyable than their early stuff. It isn't shoegaze though.

H-hello?
I guess each band of the 'big 3' of shoegaze needed some songs from which a basic entry point could be made of them, and in Ride's case, one of these songs was Vapour Trail. I think it just serves as a teaser/taste of the band''s music. It doesn't compare to Machine Gun or Slowdive - Slowdive are way better, but a comparison shouldn't be made anyway. But yeah, Vapour Trail is just a good entry point to Ride's music. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece, but it is one of Ride's (who were one of the 'big 3' of shoegaze) best songs.

TRIPS CONFIRM EVERYTHING NOW AS GOAT 2017 ALBUM
This album was basically the white equivalent of Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven
Heard the singles and it seemed like an absolute snooze fest. Funeral - Suburbs era AF was good. Didn't like Reflector.
Bands and artists that released a good album in three different decades. Bonus points for more than a three decade period.

That's a goddamn given, everything else I've heard just pales in comparison, except Kiss. It's almost as good. Taylor Swift and Marina are also good as far as modern western pop goes.
oh wait you cant

lacquered fretboard feels like molasses
frets are 0.0001mm tall

BABE IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER
AID here to do it amazing.
In 3-D [Rock 'n Roll, 1984]
I don't want to belabor the obvious (that's Al's job) but this is Mad for the ears. Still, Mad does occasionally hit it dead on and with a lot of help from its target, so does "Eat It". Other highlights include "Polkas on 45", which goes Joe Piscopo ten times better, and "Mr. Popeil" which exploits Al's otherwise fatal resemblance to Fred Schneider. C+
Exmilitary [Third Worlds download, 2011]
Death-metal hip-hop for El-P fans who secretly wish the Insane Clown Posse wasn't so dumb ("Blood Creepin," "Klink") ***
A Farewell To Kings [Mercury, 1977]
The most obnoxious band currently making a killing on the zonked teen circuit--not to be confused with Mahogany Rush who at least spare us the reactionary gentility. Imagine a power trio Kansas or Uriah Heep with the vocals cranked up an octave. Or two. D+

>A Farewell to Kings would eventually become Rush's first US gold-selling album, receiving the certification within two months of its release, and was eventually certified platinum.
Very influential.
