Gonna rec some more stuff to bump the thread and contribute.
The Merry Thoughts
>A german band from the 90s that has a ton in common with TSOM. The vocalist not only sounds like Andy Eldritch, he bears a striking physical resemblance as well. In fact there were rumors when this band was active that Andrew (being fluent in german) had moved to Germany and started a new project.

Hateful Abandon
>A project from the UK with roots in the black metal scene. Originally started as a metal project but has gone more in the post-punk direction. Supposed to put out new material soon. A favorite of mine.

Blacklist
>A now defunct post-punk band from New York. The vocalist is half of the duo behind Azar Swan and also helms the metal project Vaura

:Of The Wand & The Moon:
>everybody should know this one. Originally started as mumbley Di6 worship neofolk on the earlier material, his latest two full lengths are much more musically mature in my opinion. The Lone Descent in particular is a masterpiece.

Never released an official album, but we had a RSD exclusive reissue of some of their demo tapes and live versions on vinyl plus a CD.
Don't have the vinyl rips, but here's the CD stuff, it's wav, get it if you like it.

What are some of your favorite cases of obvious plagiarism in music?
Reminder that Killing Joke tried to sue Nirvana for stealing their riff...that they themselves stole from The Damned. Fucking idiots.

Men at Work got their asses sued off for Down Under
Fleetwood Mac's Edge of Seventeen stole the intro from The Police's Bring on the Night
The bass riff in Ride's Seagull is quite literally the same from The Beatles' Taxman.

It's pretty shitty. I don't understand why people suck its dick. It only has two decent tracks on the whole album. Am I missing something?
yea
It's historically important as one of the first records of the "album era". Before that, most bands were focusing on singles instead.

I'm not really into 80s cheese though, so :/
Is a huge musical counter-cultural movement on the level of grunge in the early 90s possible today? This isn't a question of whether Rock can make a comeback, but whether something that captures similar energy and DIY ethic can function in today's music scene.
Similarities
>Stagnation in the mainstream music scene
>Social/Political instability, anger at the establishment
>New technologies expand what sounds can be created
Differences
>Lack of centralized source of culture (i.e. MTV) means more insular music scenes with less interaction
>Social media favors music that fits into existing algorithms, dissuades taking risks
>Economic instability (relative to the 90s) makes the prospect of being a musician more difficult
Thoughts?
Scenes are dead because of the internet.
b-b-but rap is the new grunge! and punk! and metal! and blues! and classical! you can get all the culture you'll ever need from lil yachty's new mixtape
>>72881424
yup, the internet literally kills everything that was once great, even itself. hardly anyone produces even somewhat organic music anymore

How can I appreciate avant-garde, experimental music?
Tried getting into it but my ear keeps rejecting that kind of music.
Pic related.
You need to stop trying to appreciate it. Its a meme. Its the definition of an "ironic" piece of work before the term was appropriated by hipsters. Once you do that you'll learn to appreciate it and realize its not worth your time.
Start with extremely dissonant but still somewhat tonal music, then work your way to atonal, then 50s-60s avant-garde
>>72880661
For starters, try listening to actual avant-garde.
