Just sounds like some non-essential jazz. Why does everyone rave about this?
>>72883339
It isn't jazz at all though, jazz inspired doesn't mean jazz.
I like it because of the wide variety of instrumentation and song structure and the overall atmosphere of the record is really pleasant to me personally.
Definitely understand why people might not like it though, can be a bit aimless. Still one of my personal favorites.
Out of curiosity, have you listened to Millions Now Living Will Never Die?
>gives high ratings to well crafted pop acts like Jellyfish, XTC, The Magnetic Fields, etc
>hates The Beatles
I'm basically a Scaruffidrone but can anybody explain this to me? I get he's a contrarian but is that really all there is?

Nah, he's right about the Beatles.

Something fun to listen to at work, right?
I plugged in "Daniel Johnston" and was surprised at the number of schizophrenic singer-songwriter types there are out there.
At one point on this playlist I thumbsed up Wesley Willis. At another point I thumbsed up Neutral Milk Hotel. I shit you not.

Yes. Seriously. Stop this meme.

This is a meme? I was just trying to see what other people think because I believe that this a topic that's quite debatable.

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

1/10 is a stretch but yeah, it's definitely his worst. Still a few good songs on it but it could easily have been an EP for all the actually good material on it.

When a band decides to record an album, usually they write, rehearse, and record a whole bunch of songs. Then they select a dozen or so of the best ones and discard the rest. This album is pretty much why that happens. At least one entire disc should have been left in the studio.

I can't even hear the vocals
I like your treatment of the vocal part at the start, taking it a bit slower to really get the most out of the notes. Although as the song progresses, your delivery no longer really fits the passion required. That's not to say you'd need to get louder or more frantic, there are ways of increasing feeling while maintaining that understated style.
Well done for a /mu/ vocaroo cover overall
