I think this song is literally Trainwreck 1979 2.0. They wanted to release a lead single ahead of the album that would get chart appeal and this it. In fact, I think it's a better blend of their sound and a "typical pop song" than Trainwreck was. They took the idea and enhanced it.
Is it a favorite DFA song? No. Is it how DFA usually sounds? Absolutely not. Does it suck? Nah, I think it's a fine track. It intrigues me what the rest of it will sound like.
I'm sure people will say "THIS ISN'T DEATH FROM ABOVE AGH SELLOUTS!" As for bands that lose their sound with popularity, it's not exactly that simple. Being a musician, the fire you start with is never the ashes you're left with. You're constantly looking for a new spark, a new idea, that will lead you where you want to go. These guys aren't starving hounds looking for their next paycheck anymore. They're creative musicians experimenting with their sound more than they ever were really able to, especially with JFK's understanding of electronic music production and synthesis. This is a natural progression for these guys for everything I know about them.
Does anyone know anything similar to Mother Mother? Any recommendations in this sound vein are good too, trying to expand.

Every Pearl Jam album
/noise/
What's /mu/'s thoughts on noise? Do you enjoy it or understand how people enjoy it? Is it just a meme for edgy asswipes? Also, recommend some shit.
OP here. I like noise completely unironically, not because it pisses people off or is super obscure, but because of how savage and soul-cleansing it can be. Just recently got in to the genre (through Clipping.) so I'd love some recommendations.
Helps to drown out depression. That's mostly when I listen to it.
Innocence, by I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids, has a good narrative feel to it
Harsh Noise Walls are probably the best entry-level stuff, as they're not as disorienting, as, say, Kazumoto Endo

Have you tried the merzbox? Also noise or harsh noise you mean?
What's its spiritual successor?
footwork
Big room
nothing, it shouldn't have one, the genre should stay dead
Why have I never listened to this before?
Go check out the rest of their albums. Orbital 2 isn't even their best, the 3 that come after this are incredible.
Mean Girls got me into Orbital
How does one go about finding really hard to find music? Im looking for something that doesnt seem to have a record online. I can only find news articles that mention it. Ive done pretty extensive searching, at least all the obvious ways that I can think of. Does anyone have any suggestion? Or is there anything that people cant find themselves, general recs for finding things?
The next album in the series is on MusicBrainz. This is the biggest lead ive found.

i wish these posters would at least cook up some pasta to argue the importance of this album with pseudo-intellectual critical insight.

I loved this album when it came out and played it a ton. Scum with Boundaries was good but i only listened to a few times, now I can barely give a fuck at all about Bodyguard. What do you think of the ILY's?
would i have gotten responses if i just posted album abbreviations with relational operator signs?
I guess I'm in the minority, when I say I liked bodyguard? It seems the only other opinion is they are just bored and its not bad nesscairly, but what were you expecting, its basically a zach hill side project, so its gonna sound like a zach hill side project. Were you expecting le death grips?
>>73231661
zach hill used to make vastly different music than this outside death grips.
