Just as a preface, I think that Centipede HZ is the best Animal Collective album by a decent margin. It's why I feel the need to defend it.
This album is possibly the most misunderstood and wrongfully hated albums of all time. This album has gotten shit for its jumbled nature and it seems like people just don't understand that it's supposed to be like that. The album cover, along with the name, are meant to come across as scatterbrained - The album is supposed to feel like it doesn't have one concrete identity.
But that's the point - A centipede is a creature with many, many legs and segments, and hz, or hertz, denotes the amounts of electrical cycles. Centipede Herz means something that's electrical, and insanely fast. It means that the album can be described as fast, pounding electricity - Which is what it is, and what people who don't understand the concept of the album criticize it for.
This album is beautiful, one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard, for its nature. In certain parts, like the strings and synths in New Town Burnout, there are fleeting moments of clarity in the album, that bring back moments from previous calmer albums like MPP. It does this on purpose. It's supposed to be a heart racing, manic album where every once in a while, you get a break from it and you hear older AnCo. It's also written by Deakin, who is very obviously a musical genius, and adds to my point that the "Downsides" of this album were including purposefully. The lyrical content is too, with songs about not understanding the world, fear and pain coming from grief of Avey losing his wife, and other subjects that he bring forward the concept.
Centipede HZ is a concept album, and an incredbily good one at that. This album should've been praised as Animal Collective's best, but it isn't, because of stupid memes and a shitty pitchfork review.
I think history will look back on Centipede HZ as a moment of genius during the 2010's, and hopefully /mu/ will follow suit.
no it is not. you just like an album more than others do. get over it. accept the fact that music is subjective. okay? okay
Guys help please, I have not been able to find anything new for a few months already and I'm starting to get bored of my playlist.
On the pic I wrote some of my favorite songs,so after you are done with laughing at my taste in music, could you recommend some songs to me?

Why are rock singers allowed to be terrible, but as soon as a pop singer's autotune fails they are the scum of the earth? Discuss.
>>73319741
She sounds much different live for instance but in a good way
>>73319741
Cause rock listeners convinced themselves that the reasons they listen to rock music doesn't have anything to do with fashion and image.
>>73319741
Easy. Rock singers want to be "terrible". They assume the tone of their vocals as it is (not discussing if that's a good thing or not) If a pop singer's autotune fails then it was an unintentional failure. Crappy things are only accepted if done on porpouse. Low-fi is a thing after all.
Okay, I staved off this for far too long with all the bashing it got on /mu/. Just finished listening to it, and I honestly gotta say I liked every song on it. Sure, it didn't really sound like the Gorillaz we know and it was full to the brim with ft's but they were all really good artists. I'm not sure how I would rate it against Demon Dayz, and while the songs were extremely fun to listen to, and I would listen to the album again I'm not sure it would have the same impact on me Demon Dayz had, need at least one more listen for that. So, all in all, liked it, wasn't the best album in the world, didn't mind what most people did and I feel people overreacted about it.
Uhmm, I don't think people overreacted. There are many who either liked it or disliked it.
2017 is a complete disappointment so far. no album has blown me away this year. I really like Crack-Up, async, and A Shadow in Time but even those didn't really blow me away desu. Everything 'not bad' has just been extremely okay. The new albums from Feist, Thurston Moore, Kendrick, Magnetic Fields etc. fit that bill. Even the new Arcade Fire is looking to be mediocre.

Its clearly the issue where the new releases this year are dominated by comeback albums and bands otherwise established in the 2000's with little to no new artists entering the industry at a notable scale. The 2010's do not have an Arcade Fire or a Fleet Foxes - bands that have achieved enormous critical acclaim alongside relative commercial success.

I'm just waiting for the new Alvvays album desu

Listened to it by accident today and fucked me right up again. Sigh. I miss her so much.

Hi mu. I'm new and was hoping you people can help me remember a song I've forgotten.
It was by a group called the 'Zuzite lounge'
It had kind of a jazz-reggae vibe to it.
The lyrics were as follows (As i remember)
>"The dawn is breaking so I, I close my eyes"
>"There's nothing left to fear, no secrets left to hide"
>"All my life i've been waiting for suh a good thing to come"
>"But now It looks like the best is set to come undone"
>Sweet sensation don't you fade" X3
>"Sweet sensation don't you fade, Stay""
You cannot dispute this
>>73319474
pretty much full formed from the get go, their major hurdles had more to do with editing & production
