A lot of people don't realise that the English folk tradition and the American blues tradition are intimately linked. Sea shanties are actually of African origin - British and Irish sailors learned the work songs of freed slaves when working the transatlantic trade routes in the early 19th century. Many blues songs are based on traditional songs of the British Isles.
The connection is often difficult to recognise, but once in a while you hear it in vivid technicolour.

how do i get gud at soloing on guitar? i know scales and pentatonic shapes, i just dont know how to use them
also i know that the shapes are the same all over the neck and it just changes the key
>get good at bending
>use more than just the fucking pentatonic shape
>realize speed isn't as important as the solo sounding good
Mind the rhythm patterns too. Imagine you're a rapper

The Wall is just fun to hate. I listened to Final Cut and the rest like seven years ago and just don't remember them well.

Anyone else notice the shift in music towards genres that were seen as dead before? Specifically genres like funk, dance, R&B, and soul?
You can see the shift in a several artists.
Portugal. The Man, Arcade Fire, Childish Gambino, The Killers, Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, Calvin Harris, Lorde, Katy Perry, etc.
Even Queens of the Stone Age's new song has some dance influence.
Where do you guys see the music industry shifting in the next few years?
>>73786447
Personally I would have loved to see a revival of rock and roll, but I think a resurgence of funk might be kind of interesting to see.
Reggaeton
Everything happens in cycles.
Everything that seemed lame and fake is now cool and edgy, and everything that was edgy and cool is now lame and fake.
ITT we discuss your favorite, most brutal, underground bands
oh man, haven't seen a thread like that for a while.
it's been some time since I've last listened to anything like that, since I'm all into noise right now, but some of my favorite acts were
Iron lung, Extortion, Man Is The Bastard, Punch and Magrudergrind.
Not the most underground names out there, but Punch's female vocals and Iron Lung's experimental side are the highlights for me.
as far as grind goes, here's a Bulgarian band that I used to go see live
