Guitar edition:
Who're your favourite old and new jazz guitarists?
On that note, shoutout to Pat, the last of the old or the first of the new?
http://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/2015/08/28/pat-metheny-detroit-jazz-festival/71337158/
Pat reckons old but like, srs? First recordings in mid 70s playing fusion puts him in the first of the new guys imo. It's an arbitrary ass line to draw, but I lump folks like Jaco, Pat, Meola, etc. into new school stuff. Stuff post the split between fusion and free. If anyone is the last of the old guys, it's someone like Dave Holland who came in right as fusion and free jazz were separating and musicians were starting to go down their respective streams.
Also, general discussion:
What've you been listening to lately?
What'd you think of it?
And remember kids, always engage the trolls. It keeps the thread bumped.

Oh, cool! I've been gone from these threads for a while. Hadn't seen this.
What does /jazz/ think about Eddie Lockjaw Davis?
At what age did you finally read his long-form writing and realize Robert Christgau's boilerplate reviews were an expedient way for him to update consumers in the pre-Internet age, not the core of his talent? At what age did you realize that his long-form reviews and reflections constitute one of the greatest legacies in rock music journalism? At what age did you realize that the memification of this talent was due to a poorly designed archival website and not the substance of his craft?
At what age did you apologize to Robert Christgau for being an impatient millennial?
I actually read something he wrote for the first time yesterday and was impressed. Dude can write and makes sure he actually knows what he's talking about.
christgau has shit taste you stupid drones
Prog and metal fags FEAR the Christgau

This was the best track/music video i have ever seen in Hip Hop, and I vehemently dislike Hip Hop. I actually felt reverence and empathy for goodness sake, was flabbergasted.

Maybe it's just because I was like 17 when they came out, but nothing Wavves has done has been able to compare to Wavvves and King of the Beach.
Life Sux has a few good songs on it but I lose interest in all his other albums very quickly.
Remember that one song you heard that one time?
Well we are going to try and figure out what song that was. Today on the radio I heard something that sounded like it was Phil Collins, but its definitely new. Maybe a remix of somekind. The singer (Phil Collins???) mentioned love I think. It had a synth vibe to it, and had some female vocals in the background I think too.

If you rate this album less than 7/10 you're a faggy contrarian.
solid 8/10 tbqh
solid 9/10 gets my blood pumping into my dick every time
>>73831571
7/10 is the level of of a nice album by an uninfluential jazz artist. Why would I rate that anywhere near there?
