Is Grimes good, /mu/?
What do you think?

Absolutely. "Grimes is bad" is just a meme devoid of substance. An empty shell of a meme.

SHOUT AAAAT THUH DEEEEEHVUUULLLL
"Shout at the Devil" is one of those shitty albums that it's cool to be all like "actually it's amazing in spite of itself" about, but I still think it sucks.
In every Van Halen thread, someone comments "the best nu-male repellent." Van Halen is not nu male repellent. Shitty music is nu male repellent. Motley Crue is nu male repellent. Only the most ironic of hip dudes would rep them.

Is it possible to review music without any personal bias?

I unironically agree with this to some extent.

best Belle and Sebastian album right there
I'll start
Some of you might be thinking it's way too early to have A Crow Looked At Me on your top 10 list considering it's only been out for a few months, but the album hit me so hard, admittedly I've only listened to it around 5 to 6 times but it's so difficult to listen to especially considering how many people have died recently in this year for me.

I've been listening and admiring Elliot Smith's work for the past couple years or so and I have yet to find a contemporary acoustics player that meets the same level of skill that Elliot has on the acoustic. I believe he's one of the greatest and talented acoustic players in recent memory.
Examples of his skill include the song writing for Southern Belle and its chord progression.
Same for Christian Brothers, Single File, Rose Parade (Live) and Roman Candle.
In most of his early albums Elliot encompasses his songs with a strange and alien guitar tuning of: C, G,C, E, G, C . The result is this gloomy haze of a sound, still so unique and specific to Elliot Smith's early records.
It's a shame his presence is so low profile, despite the song Miss Misery being featured in Good Will Hunting, Elliot Smith is largely unknown to people out of the folk loop.
I wish I could have met him

He very rarely used strange tunings. It's mostly just D standard.
For an Indie artist, he had a pretty high profile and was seen as one of the top singer/songwriters of his generation. He was a pretty skilled guitarist, even though he himself would say otherwise. Even better than that, was his creativity and sense of melody on the guitar, allowing him to create his songs and progressions. He really was a treasure and it's a shame he went through such emotional pain and left so soon.
He's probably not as good as smith and certainly not /mu/ approved but check out Conor Oberst. His first album with the mystic valley band and a few bright eyes albums are absolutely fantastic imo. He uses intelligent songwriting like smith. I think some of his stuff is the best written from this current generation of artists

PAT, PAT, PAT PAT PAT HER ON HER BUTT, BUTT
Love You was a good album but it didn't exactly get a lot of attention or sales--the "Hey guys, Brian's back!" hoopla had faded by this time and also in 1977, everyone was busy jerking off to punk rock, nobody cared about the Beach Boys.
