what made radiohead choose sound over songwriting?
they sounds cool but their music absolutely lacks substance
why is this so prevalent in modern music?
>>73939572
The sound of music (not the musical) is a lot more immediate than chord progressions, lyrics, melodies. It's become a factor of composition itself.
What do you consider songwriting and how does Radiohead lack substance, in your opinion?

How did you reach this conclusion?
what is the heaviest genre of music?

So, what's /mu/'s opinion on Jacob Collier? I just found out about this guy and his negative harmony stuff.
Cute
Really interesting from a theoretical standpoint but I feel he makes his music totally prescriptively and it sounds absolutely soulless and without any personality.
>>73939363
Also his fucking vocoder sounds like robots farting.
What are your opinions on John Anthony Motherfucking Frusciante?
He's a drug addict
>>73939068
So?
>>73939054
Brilliant artist, i think if he stopped fucking around with his electronic music and made something focused and more song driven rather than just sound based it would be fantastic.
ITT: Forgotten geniuses
Pic related: Rowland S Howard of The Birthday Party (Nick Cave's post-punk band). Brilliant solo material that was overshadowed by Cave's.
>>73938966
I would take Roland S Howard's two solo albums over almost any of Cave's albums. Cave is way too over rated. Of course he's made masterpieces... But I'm so fucking sick of that strain of theatrical rock, it's too much, too gluttonous, too off-putting. Love live RSH.
>>73939731
Agreed. If you listen to Howard's solo stuff it becomes crystal clear right away that he was the real genius of The Birthday Party. Not knocking on Cave but Howard was miles ahead. It's a shame he went so soon.
Sorry if this list is a bit too guitar-minded, be these are some of my heroes and their solo career

:O w0w!
Why do you defend this joke of a musician?
Because that's what makes him good. He's a clown, a court jester, the town idiot. Watching him squirm and make his pathetic pseudo intellectual attempt at art provides the cleanest best pleasure. The best comedy is tragedy.
>>73938783
He's a Japanese and they're the superior race

Since Radiohead will be focusing on solo projects, what do you think Thom's next solo album is going to sound like?
>>73938467
sad depressing slow songs with a lot of reverb
>>73938467
It'll probably sound like the sound of thousands of Palestinian children being bombed to death in a hospital
>>73938467
just as mediocre and boring as the last two
You're so pretty when you're on your knees
Thom a cute
>>73938194
You're so pretty when you're faithful to me.
Can't say the same about you, Thom.
>“I hate, loathe, detest, abhor, abominate, cannot stand or abide [Gary] Numan. To me, all electronic music is just a sad accident.”
What did he mean by this?

he's actually the sad accident

Anyone seeing them tomorrow?
Holy shit, I just marathoned this entire record with all my lights turned off. This was the best experience i've ever had in my shitty life. Thanks, /mu/.

Post the album you're listening to right now
I get worried that I'm gonna burn myself out but each listen is still excellent.
Did political correctness kill bands like the Bloodhound Gang?
Seems like it's no longer socially acceptable for White musicians/bands to sing anything even remotely controversial that might be interpreted as sexist/racist/tone deaf/etc.
Yeah. But if you're using that as your thesis to end virtue signaling, please re-think your strategy. I'm on your side tho.

Making shitty, gimmicky music for 12 year olds killed bands like the Bloodhound Gang
