Best ass in the game
I think it would be interesting to share how we actually listen to music, share some "rituals" you do, whether you have to do something to help you focus, or whether you play it in the background while doing something else, stuff like that.
Me, for the most part it's just in the background, but I never feel like I truly listen to the music that way. Every time I try to just sit down and listen to the music, I get restless and end up on 4chan while the music degrades into background noise. For me to really pay attention, I have this BDSM dom come over every week or so to tie me up into a sleep sack or in a straight jacket while I wear latex shit. And then he puts on a record and I just sort of lie there for an hour while the record lasts. It's only through this restriction and sensory deprivation that I can truly focus on the music and really get into it.
Last session I listened to Kind of Blue and I finally felt like I understood jazz music for the first time. It's an incredible album! It sucks that I can't do this more often because my friend is a busy guy, but it really makes listening to the album a whole event in a way, something to look forward to, y'know.

Regardless of the absurdity of your second paragraph, interesting thread topic. I have music playing through a majority of my day, especially in the summer months when living is easy. It isn't till the evening that I start critically listening to albums, so that's when new music and so forth comes on.
Unfortunately I've been getting into a mindset recently where the more music I hear and the more music related articles I read (insight and history, not popular journalism), the bigger the musical world gets and the more uncomfortable I feel coping knowing I've barely scratched the surface and I'll have to die missing out on most of the world's greatest music.
And I don't do or accomplish much else than listening and reading and appreciating art. What a world we live in...
Opinion on Jeff Rosenstock?

Most important musician of the twenty first century.
I love Aesop Rock
Started re-evolving a music genre that hadn't moved in over a decade.
>"genre" is called IDM
>90% of it is obviously techno
>the other 10% is just soulless knock offs of pre-established dance genres
>>73854557
"brain dance" better name
I don't get it, /mu/. Why is this cover praised so much? It's gotten to the point that any normalfag I talk to will almost shun anyone who thinks this cover isn't superior to the original. It's honestly just not that good.
Is it really praised? Anyone I've heard talking about it has said it's garbage.

Pretty much everyone in my workplace who calls themselves a "metalhead" listens to either this or Down With The Sickness.
>>73854525
It's a decent cover.
I personally didn't enjoy it because I like Simon's back vocals better than Garfunkels so the cover lacks my favourite part of the song.

At what point does one move out of music enthusiast territory and into music snob territory?
>>73854456
never. majority of snobs are posers who just paraphrase what actual snobs have said without the knowledge of what they're whining about.
Notice how majority of /mu/ doesn't talk shit about classical or jazz? because they know its a easy way to expose who actually understands music or not.
next time you get into an argument with somebody on /mu/ just namedrop some jazz or classical and watch them walk away from replying to you
>>73854523
>just reply with something unrelated and they will stop arguing
well...yeah obviously

he should get a dog and then be less possessive about his partners
What are some good metal albums like Dimmu Borgir's Stormblast that have that good-but-shitty production mixed with old school synthesizers that give a fantasy feel.
Some others from the genre that are great:
Summoning - Dol Guldur
Borknagar - First album
Ragnarok - Arising Realms
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Cradle Of Filth - Total Fucking Darkness demo
Nocturnus - The Key
i fucking hate Goldfrapp
Their music aged better than The Beatles music.
"aged better" is not a criticism
