>One day the last portrait of Rembrandt and the last bar of Mozart will have ceased to be — though possibly a colored canvas and a sheet of notes will remain — because the last eye and the last ear accessible to their message will have gone.
>yfw he didn't mean that musical artifacts will remain after humanity goes instinct but that humanity is getting progressively more pleb and someday won't understand the genius of old masters
Music and people are getting dumber and dumber each and every year. It turns out you only need a third grade education not only to understand the lyrical content of pop music, but its composition as well. A third grader who literally just started learning how to play the recorder could readily understand and soon be able to preform Top 40 melodies. Of course the Norwegians and Swedes behind pop music are making hundreds of millions of dollars per year off of this inane bullshit, but people eat it up anyway

Tears for fears had a similar sound, but that's the best I can come up with. Etc was pretty unique.
The Futureheads
The Dukes of Stratosphear
Shouldn't the term be be proto-black metal, instead of the first wave? Most of the first wave bands had absolutely nothing to do with each other, and while Bathory had the basic sound down, and Sarcofago were halfway there, bands like Venom, Celtic Frost, and Mercyful Fate don't even really sound like black metal.
Their relationship to black metal totally parallels the relationship between punk and proto-punk groups like The Stooges, New York Dolls, The Velvet Underground, MC5, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love these bands, especially Celtic Frost. My favorite black metal bands even tend to be the blackened death metal bands that harken back to this old sound. But the whole concept of the first wave seems incorrect.
Yeah, I agree. The second wave of the norwegian bands was the first true scene with a defined sound, and should be the first "wave".

Agreed, exactly. Fenriz already gets a lot of credit, but if anything he's still underrated since he was so critical to the formation of the genre.
What's everyone's opinions on the 4 new arcade fire singles?
They sound absolutely awful to me, have they just run out of ideas or something?
I was just re-listening to them. Electric Blue > Creature Comfort > Signs of Life > Everything Now
I don't like any of them, though.

Bradley's voice is one of the most expressive voices I have ever heard. Best part is, he kept it street and never kissed ass. It's a shame that he paddled out too far.

Hello /mu/. Let's see if you can help me. What is this Russian melody/song called? The Oeral Kozakkenkoor calls it "Marusha", but I can't find it anywhere else by that name.
