does anyone have trouble paying attention to music? I always seem to get distracted unless I really really like a certain album, and it prevents me from properly enjoying the intricacies of some albums because I'm always day dreaming or thinking of other shit. anyone deal with this shit?

yeah I deal with it. No big deal, all it means is that it keeps getting worse with age and it becomes harder and harder to enjoy anything, and harder and harder to live in the moment, which contributes to turning your memory to shit, so you turn into a depressed husk of a person with no drive to do anything.
oh except le hyperfocused meme, you'll get that from time to time but it starts to become a reminder of how small and limiting your world is due to how impossible it is to build interest in most things.

How is that getting in the way of you being a singer?
You're not going to NEED to sing your favorite songs, unless you want to make a tribute band in which case r.i.p.
Just make some nice tunes that complement your range, and you'll pick up techniques and practice along the way.
