Okay, /mu/, I'm stuck in a rut.
Ever since Villains dropped (which was okay, by the way, but not spectacular) I've been in a serious QotSA rut. I've been listening to the band for a few years now but I'm on the verge of getting burned out, though I don't really want to listen to anything else right now.
I've listened to all of Kyuss' stuff and am pretty tired of it. Checked out The Desert Sessions, it's alright. Brant Bjork's solo work was okay at best. Same with Vista Chino.
Is there anything else out there with a groovy, desert rock vibe or am I going to have to pull a total 180 on my listening habits?
Stop listening to garbage and maybe you wont get burnt out so easily dumbass
check out Them Crooked Vultures

How do we make this the next big meme?
isn't it already?
>>75107883
If you liked it you wouldn't want it to be a meme.
>>75108044
I liked it, but think it should be much more known
>I was riding the Mayflower when i though i spotted some HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Was he laughing at his shitty lyrics or just his overall lack of skills as a musician/singer/songwriter?

How do I reach Madlib's level of hip-hop production? Are there certain books I have to read or is it just pure talent at some point?
>>75107619
Madlib doesn't read books on production, he writes them in his head. He just listens to music constantly and analyzes them like a scientist, goes crate digging and experiments constantly. I doubt he thinks too hard when making beats because he can release like 10 albums in a year. With Madlib it's part dedicated study and part pure talent. As for yourself, don't get caught up in learning without doing, just keep messing around making beats and trying new things and keep looking for new music to inspire you. Wouldn't hurt to read some books on the technical aspects of production, but most of it just comes with practice
>>75108392
nothing else needs to be said or posted. said perfectly.

>>75107619
OP do not read any books about making any art. Writing about art is for people who can't do art. Madlib doesn't write charts or books he produces music. Produce music and work hard as much as you can.
This album is fantastic, it should be discussed more
Such a great blend of genres, textures, layers upon layers, so many interesting ideas and themes.
literally made me fall asleep

Very beautiful album and probably YLT's best. Glad to see some love for Yo La Tengo.
Green Arrow is GOAT
I absolutely cannot figure out how to make music on Ableton, where do I start? I just want to make hip-hop beats and maybe some jungle/rave/lo-fi meme house type stuff but whenever I watch YouTube videos I just get more confused, since they start out in a lot of different ways
It's gonna take time and practice.
I recommend you instead learn some basic music theory alongside reading a beginners guide to albeton. Start small, then use your understanding to see what it is people in the genres you want to make are doing.
>>75107603
Not OP but learning music theory doesn't do anything towards learning how to use production software lmao
I can make a nice piano roll with default synths, fucking woop de do
>>75107459
Honestly if you just wanna make beats just get a Maschine or something. Ableton is geared towards people who want to go into extreme amounts of minutia when making electronic compositions. It can be used to make beats, sure, and it's got good audio editing tools, but that's not what it was made for.
Making hip hop beats today requires literally 5 minutes worth of youtube tutorials and no musical background. Fucking Audacity could probably work just as good as a beat making program
>Sgt. Pepper's in Mono
why do you like mono? it just sounds like shit lol

I do.
The fact that he us 5'4" makes him 1000x more likeable and if he was 5'10" he would have just grown up to be a normie
What's your favorite album of his Pinkheads? Currently spinning Loverboy, my copy of Bobby Jameson arrives Friday
