Why some people say only Devo's first LP is good?
This album right here is one of their best works.
>>74596052
I liked it too. I also thought it was cool that Polysics had a cover of Don't Shoot on Something Else for Everybody.
it was definitely better than the Enigma albums, but it's still outside of the WB era.
my personal preference: duty now > nu tra > shout > f o c > q? a! > s f e > s E f e > s n m = total devo
>>74597297
i knew i was missing something, revised ranking:
duty now > nu tra > shout = oh no > f o c > q? a! > s f e > s E f e > s n m = total devo
And why is it The Downward Spiral?
>production like no other album on the planet
>Reznor's vocal delivery at its best
>genius lyrics
>catchiest song of the 90's (closer)
>amazing concept, stripping down the human psyche song by song
>inspired Fight Club
>closer was polled as best music video of all time by VH1 more than once
>first industrial/electronic/metal album to reach no. 2 against a fucking Nirvana live album
>Hurt was deemed worthy enough of a song to be covered by Johnny Cash on his final album and became literally the most important track on that entire thing
>Encouraged bands to explore deeper, darker concepts about the world and themselves
Prove me wrong.
>production like no other
No
Trents a good lyricist/vocalist
Yeah
>amazing concept
Totally the first time someone sings about drugs and insanity
>polls
Dunno shit about polls
>hurt cover
Yeah its p cool
>inspired others
Plenty of records have inspired people, thats how music works.
Go listen to more music if you think this is best of the 90s senpai
>production like no other album on the planet
like almost everything else Trent did in the 90s.
>Reznor's vocal delivery at its best
still sounds like a whinier Phil Collins
>genius lyrics
awkward, unimaginative, unpoetic and needlessly ambiguous. I cannot stress this enough.
>Catchiest song of the 90s
not even half as catchy as what Manson was doing at the same time.
>amazing concept
existentialism 101
>inspired fight club
whatever
>Encouraged bands to explore deeper, darker concepts about the world and themselves
resulting in mallgoth music

Dude but it's edgy xdd
Name an album with more cringe-worthy lyrics.
>pt:yc
Hysteria, Cherry Pie, Winger, pretty much all sex related butt-rock.
Where did it all go wrong, /mu/?
its just an extended version of Black or White by Micheal Jackson but instead its Logic so its a lot worse
i think he's half black or something
>Oi anon I heard you were talking shit about my music and my looks.
What do?
hi my name is tony
>TAKE A SHIT ON THE BITCH AND FUCK HOOBAJOOBA
>SUCKING ON MY SHIT
This album is so fucking underrated. One of my favorites by them. I'll never understand why it gets shit on so much.
>>74596195
maybe cause of the lyrics I just quoted

Anyone who listens to Ween would not be phased in the slightest by those lyrics.

How long does it take for you guys to have an album almost completely memorized? I find that even after three or so listens there are still sections, if not entire songs, that I cannot remember. Is my short term/working memory fucked?
Takes me at least 4 listens to remember 80+% of an album
For me it depends on the length of the album. Sometimes it takes 3 or so listens to "click", where my brain will recognize a rhythm, chord progression or interesting feature about the album.
Also, if I find the album boring or generic, I'm unable to concentrate on those said features rendering the album almost impossible to gain familiarity with.
Does anybody know of any good Pavement-esque bands? I've listened to Pavement's discography to death, as well as plenty other 90s indie rock. I know there's a lot of imitators out there, but most of them (as it tends to go) are just kind of dull and surface level - they copy the sound, but lack the cool interesting songwriting. Basically I want something loose, mellowed, with songs that go in unexpected directions.
Specifically I'm looking for albums more in the vein of CRCR and onward. Nothing against anything prior, that's just not the mood I'm in right now.

Sebadoh
Built to Spill
Modest Mouse
Some of GBV's mid-period stuff, just a little
I've struggled to find something that scratches the Pavement itch myself, and nothing quite gets it. I've found listening to their influences tends to get me more than band coming after, i.e. The Fall, Television Personalities, The Replacements, etc.
>>74595441
Yeah, I'm a big fan of built to spill, the fall, the replacements, and GBV. Never could get into Modest Mouse. I'll check out those other bands though
>rhodes piano
Mistypo, meant wurlitzer.
Are we ever going to see another album or EP from them again?
I hope not.
according to Joyrex, yes sometime in the next 12 months
it may be a remix compilation however... but it might include some unheard remixes
