If Young Thug was a white hipster from like Seattle and his lyrics were about like, feelings or some shit (with the same beats, rhythm, style of delivery, incoherence etc.) he'd be hailed as one of the great experimental musicians of our time. Don't sleep on this dude just cuz he rhymes about getting money and head -- his beats and delivery and overall persona make Thugger the musical visionary of our era.

Don't even bother trying to force Thugger on plebs. They aren't ready for his greatness.
how did a rapper end up releasing the best rock album in the past 5 years?
>>74646412
1.- Surely is not the best rock album in the past 5 years
2.- Rock right now is too shitty. Not that hard to make something good
>>74646412
Because he doesn't fake. THIS is what Joy Division should've sounded like: a depressed man trying to keep his shit together yet failing at it due to his condition. Instead, white boy sadrock is just upbeat pop rock but with minor chords and melodrama.

Trap music is pleb music.
rap is not music. it's talking. that's what it says. "rap" means talking in meter. It has rhythm. It's not music. It's OK. there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not music. People who are great at rap aren't great musicians, they're just great at rap. there's no road from rapping into music. Music is something you can get better and better at, I don't think you can do that with Rap. I don't know if rap has that kind of space to it which leads off to an infinite number of possibilities. music does.
What's a good starting point for Gentle Giant? This is some of the most technical prog I've heard.
Start right there. Then go to Acquiring the Taste and Octopus.

Any albums I should avoid? Or do critics hate the later stuff because GG sold out?
I've never really liked three friends very much.
I'd say check out Free Hand and Octopus, thats definitely some of their best stuff, but dont overlook Power and the Glory
Side B of The Missing Piece is pretty good too but anything after that isnt really worth your time
After checking out some of their discography definitely be sure to listen to Playing the Fool, their official live album where they practically rewrite the songs

Terpsichore sounds very much like renaissance music, I'd say most of his other works are closer to Baroque

Anyone read this? Is it honest, or just Tolhurst exusing himself the way Peter Hook did?

ITT: Guilty Pleasure artists
I'll start with Blue October
>>74646122
Wait I legitimately love Blue October. Is there something wrong with them that they're classified as a guilty pleasure?
>>74646497
It just feels like the type of thing I shouldn't like for some reason, but yeah I think they're great too
>>74646522
Ah okay. I actually just got Justin's book in the mail the other day. I'm really excited to read it. I really love how you can hear the raw emotion in his voice in a lot of his songs. The album Any Man in America was really hard for me to listen to for a while because it felt very personal, like something a third party shouldn't be listening to, if that makes sense.
I guess my guilty pleasure would be Enrique Iglesias. He's really not very good, but I like his album Euphoria.
I've been listening to his other ones though, and I've just been thoroughly disappointed.
