Well, I'd suggest you study a few of your favorite lyricists, make sure they're all different in style, so that you don't end up relying on one guy, rather something that you've decided ot mix and make it yours.
Start out with little ideas, having the music on loop can also help. While writing, try singing along, just to make sure that everything fits rhythmically, if you have to stretch something, say something quicker, whatever, it's mostly trial and error.
Also, do keep it in mind that most of the shit you'll write will probably be bad, and I'm not saying this to insult you or anything, I'm just saying that you'll probably struggle for a while with that, but that' okay, you'll have days where you knock out a song in 30 minutes.
Also, Block Out are the shit, one of my fave bands.

Also, it's ripping off all those electro-acoustic guys whose dicks the fluxus crew loved to suck. Yoko was a part of that scene and definitely told Lennon to do a sound collage.
If John had got the band in studio to improvise over 2 chords for 10 minutes with a shit tonne of feedbacking guitars, you could call it a Velvet rip off but the process by which it was made and the style of the piece are nothing like what the Velvets were doing.

Good album. But they're white and making rock music so it won't get anywhere near the attention it deserves.

Everytime I listen to a Brokem Social Scene album that isn't You Forgot It In People or Feel Good Lost I just wish I was listening to onw of those instead
