Thank you, you are correct. I was thinking of the anarchists associated with Chicago's haymarket affair. They were said to carry purple flags during their mayday march, perhaps because it was a royal color, and served as a symbolic protest.
I was under the impression that purple was historically associated with the anarchist movement of late 19th century America, however I may be incorrect.
