Luckily there has been advancement in optical computing. Last year they've made the very first optical processor prototype work.

Sadly it's not 100% optical, but maybe in the future they can make a working optical computing (they've already figured out how to save data optically by deforming the molecules between crystalline/amorphous phases, thus altering if a light signal is transmitted or not through the material).
