I wanna be violated by Velvet Violet
If you feel that bad about it then maybe you can write something in the meantime? Like that one thing with young Treads or maybe the first battle from someone else's perspective.

Threshold died. You know what that means: The bitch is back!
I miss it too.
We need to snuggle Strongarm.
No, I mean, really
I only care about the stories I read, so among the choices of teh poll I was going to pick SiM but then I realised I knew fuck-all about
And for JaD and CQ... memes and shitstorms
study, copy, observe
Draw things you would normally not draw. If you only do what you're go at, you'll never get better.
A lot of artists stream. Try watching them to pick up on cues and such
Go read some literature on it. Loomis and the like
Shit I don't know lad.
Take an image and try to draw it yourself.
Do the same image three times and try different thing each time.
Color other people's work.
Search for guides and references.
The other part of it it experienceing new techniques I guess, like trying other styles, learning to use new tools and programms
There's also tons of book on the subject, bit I'm no expert
I just bought a notebook I've been drawing in every single day for the last 4 months.
Things I'm working on are speed, confidence, and some other techniques I've learned.
Like >>25997317 said, drawing lots of stuff I'm not accustomed to, like stills and stuff. I also tune in to art streams when possible.
To be honest, if you've already been at it for a while, the draw threads or i/ic might hold what you seek instead of the cyoa threads
Unless you want to talk especially about quest drawing, in which case you should probably ask in the
Frankly, the 'big budget adventure' CYOA concept is a little dry. I'll probably start something new under another name. But I didn't do enough to earn a gravestone. Let me rest in peace in a shallow, unmarked grave by Frontierguard.
I lurk drawthread too now and again. Just haven't posted very much lately.
I tend to go beyond this board for further help/instruction beyond pone, but most of my actual discussion doesn't stray far from the board.
Thanks lads, I begin drawing s couple of weeks age when I got a tablet just because I want to make a little quest I have in mind. My biggest problems arise when I'm trying to draw movement and expressions, they just don't look good.
>watch drawing streams
Do the sekrit klub count?
Also >pic is probably my best drawing so far
but I really hate how I drew her eyes.
Any tips for backgrounds?
Here's my advice on drawing. Bear in mind that it is probably bad advice, but feel free to take it anyway if you want.
The thing that helped me with art the most was to stop giving a shit.
I always thought I was a crappy artist, and then one day I realized I was right, and suddenly it didn't matter any more. Hell, up until today I was still working with colored pencils. Now I just draw for fun, and when it turns out crappy I just shrug, say "oh well", and move on. When people say "your art is crap", I can just say "I know" and go on with my day.
I'll probably never make anything too impressive, but I enjoy drawing a lot more with my current attitude.
Yeah, I know. I said it was bad advice, especially if you want to get better. But if you just want to have fun drawing, I advise not giving a shit.
I make stupid mistakes like that all the time. Thanks for letting me know.
May I ask you an honest question? What did you mean by "conformist"? My advice was basically just "if despite all your efforts you're just not an artistically inclined person, don't beat yourself up over it". What part of that did you find conformist?
>but I really hate how I drew her eyes.
reminds me of this style for the eyes
I made a drawing, then took a picture with a phone - I have no scanner.
Quality is not the best I saw. Will it be better at daytime [europoor time]? I don't take photos very often, but I suppose it should be.
Yep, that's exactly what I meant. I don't know the word for it either. I just think anyone can have fun doodling, even if they are not artistically inclined.
Also, triple dubs. Nice.
I definitely examine, thanks for the tip though.
I was actually gonna upload all of it to an album, just to keep track of how far I still have to go. Also in case anything happens to my notebook. I might post a link when I'm done, but I'm already cringing too hard for mere words.
Any word you'd want to use would be defined by what he's already said. He's in a fairly unassailable position. "I'm shit and I'm ok with that." means less/no drive to get better but definitionally he's already fine with that.
>prepare to wince
Yup, those are ponies all right. I didn't wince once, and the stairs thing made me laugh. Hope you had fun drawing all that, and good luck on your quest for improvement.
I noticed that too when I was "done" drawing it. It's one I'll be redoing sooner or later. Left out a lot, which does leave the drawing itself oddly ambiguous.
I hope my crappy sketches helps some anons to get back into it. It was mildly difficult overcoming my nerves to post... pretty much everything. I've done so far. Also barring digital art.
Okay, holy shit. I cannot do anything right even once in my life. Thanks for answering all my stupid questions.
So, I was bored and not able to join sekrit tonight, thus I decided to draw
>implying I can do itcutie marks of my characters. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I never described them. Forgetting about such important thing would be really dumb, after all.
I didn't have the access to crayons tonight. I may post coloured version one day and explain the meanings of these marks, but I'll do it in my own thread. When I get the time and enough drive to make it, that is.
Marks from left to right: Spring's, Clean's, Hran's, Kalina's.
Mistakes were made/
You have simple clean lines that communicate exactly what the drawing is without fucking around. I like it.
I would even leave it uncolored. It has an appealing minimalist look to it.
It seems that a lot of our QMs commit this cardinal sin.
Cough Syrup guy here. How would you guys want the text set up?
"Cough Syrup's line"
>His thoughts and actions
>"Other people's lines"
Cough Syrup: (line)
His thoughts and actions.
>Other person: (line)
(everything in plain text)
The main goal should be readability.
Type one has the advantage of already being familiar to most people.
Type two has the advantage of always letting you know who is talking.
Type three is hard to read without tabs or blank lines.
Type one and four seem to be the most popular. I guess that means that we all want Cough's lines in white and other peoples limes in green, and we just disagree over what color actions should be?
What's wrong with bat ponies? I thought they were just normal equestrian citizens that happen to have bits of metaphorical moon shards in them.
EQG is tied to the show. The opposite is not true.
If you completely erased EQG, the show wouldn't be affected, but if you completely erase the show, all EQG's lore wouldn't make sense.
So no, they're not tied together.
>SiM's tied for worst.
Well...fuck. Here I thought Punishment was doing somewhat decent.
Yea, I know I'm late to the party, but mind if I ask you guys what I'm doing so wrong?
I'd like to improve.
Hah, alright. Well, thanks you guys. Sorry for fagging it up, this thread's a bit uh...different than what I'm used to.
...So it did. In my defense, that really shitty font threw me off.
You mean significantly less uptight than SiM? Yeah, that's a thing. If you want feedback you can ask for it, but any players are undoubtedly conversing about decisions in SiM.
The only significantly complaint I've heard over here is that people deciding that the content isn't for them.
Shuffle wasn't as edgy as his big pops
I wouldn't mind seeing him again
The Perfect CYOA JAD will start soon so be there or quit CYOA's forever as they will only disappoint in comparison!
>If you want feedback you can ask for it
Oh well, yea. I'd love to hear what you guys have for feedback.
I know I've tried to put to use everything you had to say regarding the last CYOA I tried to help run, and the difference in responses has been mindblowing.
I am one of the people responding to your CYOA, so I may be a bit biased.
But, my suggestion is don't let yourself get bogged down by pulling in different directions. You're under a lot of pressure to make it a more strategy-centric CYOA, a straight lewd thing, etc. Resist the urge to let players just wander without progress as they bounce between paths; if you put stumbling blocks in their progress, make sure hitting them leads to a different route and not just something that holds them back until they 'fix' it.
>Innkeeper has some of the best NPCs in any Cyoa I have played so far
>Running your own business and upgrading it and forming it as you please is awesome
>Plenty of feels and fun events
>MC is a bit lacking but that mostly player choice
>The two most well known NPCs are an edgelord that doesn't belong and a bashful trap oh my
>It's basically a cookie clicker where all you do is get things to get more things until you have everything, no real stylizing
>Designated cute pony you are supposed to love
>Artificial feels experienced by a piece of cardboard
>"We keep him bland on purpose"
>edgelord that doesn't belong
when she said that she doesn't use weapons because killing ponies with her hooves is more intimate I just had to stop. She was basically a 13 year old's generic edgy oc at that point
>Designated cute pony we love
Alright motherfucker I was staying out of this shitty chat till you fucked up and insulted Wispy.
Firstly we found her and made her our daughter, we could of done a million things but everyone was like fuck it and made her work for us.
And the two most known? Really, plenty of way better characters.
Pretty much word for word yeah. And it was in the fashion where you could tell that she was delighting in it because she's just so edgy and badass that it's no big deal to her. You know, like your average 12 year old fanfiction
>I don't read a quest, know nothing about it and mix it up with other quests and base my opinion only on memes and whatever drama spills into this thread
>But nah familia, I'm a good source to ask when it comes to JAD.
I can understand the whole abused veteran skilled fighter thing, we get that. But literally saying "I like to tear ponies heads off with my bare hooves because it's SO much more satisfying than using a weapon". We get it bitch, you're big bad and fucking edgy, no need to go overboard
Well it looks like Colt Quest has been getting popular lately. It's even been popping up on Derpibooru. Congrats to Ficfic for his success.
Oh for fuck's sake, this again?
JAD people: Stop saying JAD is perfect. The meme is bad and it only starts stupid fights when you repeat it.
Anti-JAD people: Stop saying Pot is bland. JAD's players know this and they do not care. They play it for the NPCs. Even the edgelord ones.
Yeah, and now the NPCs are being criticized for being shallow.
Sundance was an abused prisoner. I could buy that. But that she was raped, her children killed in front of her, and that she finds using her bare hooves to kill someone more intimate? Mates, that does not at all fit with the rest of JAD's tone.
Ok, maybe try hard is a better word. Saying that she only use hooves instead of weapons just to show how badass she is is, despite everyone already knowing that she's tough, is trying pretty damn hard
Like I said, I'd be fine if all that was said about her was that she was an abused prisoner. I think something as vague as "abused prisoner" fits with the rest of your examples, but as is, Sundance being that much of an extreme case breaks it.
Why do we have to debate whether JAD is good or not every damn day? It's a goddamn CYOA. Some people will like it and some won't and nobody's mind is going to be changed by arguing about it.
"Every warrior has their preference for their own reasons. I like my hooves because it helps me feel more connected to the fight. Makes them... personal, if that makes any sense."
Wow a veteran warrior likes their fights personal, so edgy.
Dude come the fuck on. Let's be honest that sounds like something out of a god awfu fanfiction. And let's be honest if this "veteran warrior" has been in enough fights to have their hooves as their signature fighting style they'd be fucking dead by now. It just sounds ridiculously over the top, even for a cyoa
Do you have autism? The problem isn't that people think she only uses her hooves.
The edginess comes from her preference and her stated reason as to why it's her preference. It's 'i watched the dark knight and thought jokers baiting of that cop was cool' edgy.
Dubs of truth. He has a dank premise and good art, he better not fuck it up.
so i started reading jad and the characters are pretty good with pot being a 7/10 not the best but still good enough so why do people say his bland?
side note: giving spiders legal paper work was funny as hell
>explain to me the taste of unsalted crackers
Because the stories that drive my interest in the quest are rarely ever his but products of the cast around him. In short, the Inn is more of a driver of interest than he is. I'd rather have a quest thats based on the inn itself where all stories spring up from there as a starting point and we have a 'day in the life of cast member a' before returning to the inn for the next story.
I don't care about Pot, Pot is just how I get to what I do care about. ergo, bland.
Actually yeah. Criticism can become a meme. Hijacker railroaded hard in one spot and now >railroading is a Hijack meme.
Pot is bland sure. But I'm certain a good portion of the people that say it are just saying it to meme, just like with the 'JAD is perfect' bit.
The meme potential of something has no bearing on its factuality.
Why by continuing to doodle and taking chances every now and then, dear Anon.
>Colt Quest nearly 500 posts after only 2 days of posting
>Meanwhile Butt Quest struggling so hard that Hijackles needs to bump it himself to keep it from dying.
The tables have certainly turned
Sorry about how long this took 11-54 continues to stagnate.
>Average Curwhibbles session
>Wait for a week to start again
There are one or two mouth-breathers that spout "Pot is bland!" as their signature meme. Given that he's a self-started adventurer-inn host-gourmet chef that's also an element of harmony, that's so inaccurate that it's sad. Him and the NPCs are downright fascinating, for the most part, so yeah, don't give the haters any fucks.
Mild-mannered, well-adjusted, hard-working family-orientated stallion with a strong charitable side, business saviness, but skittish and prone to panic. Also a bit of a womanizer and sex fiend.
I mean, you can have that and still be bland, but there's a slight difference between bland and nothing.
Pot is a relatively grounded character. He tends to think in terms of business-sense, looking for profit, trying to react reasonably. In spite of this, he has a bit of a tendency to get himself roped into inane situations. He has a high libido and tends to be flirtatious as a result, to the point that it often gets him a bit over his head. While it does act at odds with his capitalist urges, he's a relatively generous pony who feels a need to help others out in need. He's also fairly cowardly, being reluctant to go into danger and tending to default to panicking when things get dangerous. He's also fairly cheeky, especially when he knows that he's aced something or done well.
Wow. Uh, what they said...
But as the guy you replied to, "Pot is a driven pony, determined to take lemons and turn them into lemonade. Then possibly piss. He's easily side-tracked, good at delegating authority, brave enough to battle demons (Sorry, I don't buy the "he's cowardly" thing. Jumpy, sure, jumpy's another matter though) then HIRE them. He's good at relating to people, loves sexing it up with anyone whenever possible. He actively seeks out any resources he needs without trepidation. He helps anyone he finds that needs it, even unto adopting a changeling. This guy's anything BUT bland and would be a powerhouse personality even in our world.
His players have shitty taste in what to turn awesome magic swords into, however, and are so protective of our adopted changeling that they're likely to get her killed from misguidedly denying her a decent weapon.
> His players have shitty taste in what to turn awesome magic swords into
> and are so protective of our adopted changeling that they're likely to get her killed from misguidedly denying her a decent weapon.
Well at first I though it would be bad but with the 1 op sword we can lend it to sunny and azzy while use it ourselves if we ever need it.
I'm not completely against wispy getting a weapon, but she needs to learn and pracise with her training sword before I trust her with a real one.
I've been dead a while, catching up on Hijack. Found some missing posts but I don't remember how to format missing shit reports. Sorry Amn (was it Amm? I could never fucking remember)
Oh, and I'd appreciate if someone would tell me what happened with Nine Lands, last I read was when Rocky was trying to get on top of that fuckhuge flying purple slime
If you're reading through the archive you can just report missing posts/threads now.
I'll get those fixed anyway.
Oh, that's pretty rad. Thanks for running the site and shit.
Yeah I know, I was hoping for the cliffnotes to help me decide if I want to read through everything I missed since I don't care about spoilers. I think I remember Fins being decent enough that I wasn't worried about the story turning to shit, but I also remember that story moving pretty slow.
Sorry, I didn't explain it properly. There isn't a lot left after that one battle, just a short trip outside and then planning and raiding the last dungeon/boss. It's not a long read, and I don't think quality declines through the end, so if you got that far, I suggest you finish it.
Posting for future use.
Official bat-posting plane?
Not anthro. She was suppose to be sitting. Is this better?
I am so fuckin' hype for Nine Lands Chapter 2. Not to mention Grape's date.
I always seem that and Trottingham on the archive, but never been intrigued enough to read them. What are they like?
Could've at least finished it off. I'd prefer a cute and happy or ambiguous ending over nothing. As a QM or a reader.
Adventure that turns into a misson to stop slimes from taking our homeland. And shovelfucking.
Trottingham is a really comfy CYOA about a winemaker and her friends stopping a pseudo-supervillan from destroying their town. Lots of Cutestria vibes.
I have no idea what you're talking about. It's lasted this long a bunch of times.
A thread lasting one day is a posting average of about one every three minutes, which is pretty active.
That'll teach me to shoot my mouth off on vague memories. I just checked the archive, a quick scan showed no sign of what bothered me in the quest I described, in fact I may actually read Trottingham.
There is, however, a quest out there of memetically similar qualities, written by a QM who as I recall complained of health issues- And it was exactly as I originally described. I just can't figure out which it was, now.
Sorry to Trottingham and for giving faulty advice!
I seem to recall someone going about some "white guilt: the CYOA" issue months ago too, but not about Trottingham specifically, so I was curious as well. Maybe someone will remember.
Whoever it was, wasn't me. This was the first time I've brought it up. There was a real bad one though. It layed the guilt on way thick, several posts long.
It had a name similar to Trottingham, some folksy towny name. And t'were poisonous.
>Haven't read SS for what feels like a year
>DBZ tier shit casually happens and then Fruity goes inside the a weird spirit crystal world
Serious biz. This thing started out with the QM talking of their horrible case of AIDs or whatever and they'd update "as possible", and it had a sort of "street view of buildings" quest-pic.
What happened in the quest was mainly slavery, horrible slavery. With paragraph after paragraph describing the demeaning conditions, inadequate lighting, bad healthcare, etc etc.
It's not on Pineapple, or if it is I can't find it. It was similar enough in name to Trottingham to trip my memory of it, which led to all this mess.
If anyone can remember what that atrocity was actually called, that'd be much appreciated.
As is, however, I'm simply sorry for bringing it up- And doubly sorry for associating it with the innocent Trottingham.
