So we had a new Friends Forever come out this week! Reason enough to have a story time I feel. So I want to kick my winter break off right with a fun MLP story time! So let's go ahead and start this off!
Here is a media fire link for you!
Sunday, got my writefag on for sunhorse, chilled out and watched Boondock Saints 2. 9/10, could have done with some more vidya.
I thought those two looked familiar
Any requests? No finals week for me so I am in it for the long haul. So I am up for anything.
No need to thank me. I just post other people's work on 4chan.
That's why you rule anon!
Let's pretend its 2022 and the comic won an Eisner in 2018.
Hey, does anyone remember Joe Kelly's run? We all thought Carla Speed McNeil couldn't come back from FF1, but Curnow's final executive decision, to let her do it all in pencils, was a stroke of genius.
You've been doing for fucking ever, now it's become a entertainment "board constant" for all the people who are too lazy to download the comics themselves. It's quite the service. Just so you know, it's appreciated.
I mean if I recall correctly you came from /co/ and didn't even give that much of a fuck about ponies back then, and you've stuck to it for all this time, don't even know how long ago this was but it must have been at least a year
Two years by my count and I loved the shit outta ponies so since I had already been Story timing for like 2 and a half years by that point it was only natural. I am glad you appreciate it!
If we are creating a fictional team for this book then Tobin is my first pick. Tobin is the best All Ages book authro IMO.
I would not mind more Hickey.
any takers ladies?
Hey guy wanting reflections.
had a request. You are next in line but since it's just one issue vs 4 I would hate to make him wait. I hate to ask but can I bump you down again? I'll owe you one for sure.
Thanks! This is the last time and I seriously owe you one. Sorry again.
Well I won't ruin it for you but get some snacks or something.
When you read it seriously, it's probably one of the worst comics I've read in quite a while. When you read it as a comedy that consists of errors and failures like Birdemic or The Room, it's fucking awesome.
Well I got the basic idea of what happens - the particular things people keep bitching are hard to miss. Still the intriguing part is how it can be *so* bad that people bitch and bitch and bitch about, even though it's only a "semi-canon" fancomic.
The answer is autism.
For a more complete answer, months before Reflections even came out Cook and/or Price made some comments that hurt the feelings of this boards more "challenged" members and discussion of their comics has never been the same since.
I don't get it. Is this just a blatant reference to a shitty reality show? Where's the joke?
See, this is exactly why we can't have any nice comic threads or any thoughtful discussions anymore.
If you don't love the comic you are automatically an autistic manchild, that's what each and every member from IDW's board and the Round Stable are programmed to spread around.
Jersey cattle are a small breed of dairy cattle. Originally bred in the Channel Island of Jersey, the breed is popular for the high butterfat content of its milk and the lower maintenance costs attending its lower bodyweight, as well as its genial disposition.
Here we go. I really need to write a review of this at some point.
>Luna can't follow Celestia through the Equestria Girls mirror.
Nice job there Cook. The EqG movies already established that multiple ponies can use the mirror at once. Dumb bitch. 0/10 for completely contradicting established lore.
Was there ever any point to this faggot? Or did the story just go nowhere with him?
He puts one in each of his issues. They are usually easy to miss.
The only reason he put it front and center in this issue is because there are a whole bunch of other Fringe references in this arc.
Not that anon, but he's right you know. I can understand being upset about her writing, but dude's act like their feeling were hurt because the team poked fun at them.
It's like we can dish it out but we can't take it. There are some people in the comic threads these days who are seriously fucking bootyblasted Price drew a picture of a cartoon pony sticking their tongue out. It's like, can we be mad for the right reason, maybe?
According to Cook herself, the story was meant to use the EqG mirror all along until a Hasbro exec asked her to change it because they were making Rainbow Rocks.
So yeah, no excuse.
pic related, every single pony that Price draws talking looks like this.
I'm not the one drawing the characters like this every other panel.
>I know this story is called Reflections
It's called Reflections because it makes you reflect on the money you wasted on this crappy arc!
So right here is the bigger problem with Reflections.
There is a story, but we only get part of it. The rest comes later.
People only see the first half of the plot, make up their minds and ignore any new information that comes later.
Cook should stay away from non-linear storytelling if she wants to appeal to more people. Not everyone wants to expend mental energy connecting the dots.
You don't even have to go to a specific page. Pick any page at random. Every one has the ponies mouths open and their tongues sticking out.
I want to see someone make a compilation of this face from every comic drawn by price.
HOW TO SPOT THE IDW SHILLS:
- They claim that not liking the comic automatically makes you autistic
- They claim that any person not satisfied with the comic's quality is a self entitled manchild arguing about a comic for girls
- They claim that any person who dislikes Katie Cook's stories is because they are butthurt over their stolen waifu
And finally, each and every of their posts defending IDW's horrendous year is full of insults- they are completely uncapable to say anything without being smug, condescending or plain offensive.
So your tongue sticks straight out or over your lips when you talk?
Oh screw you, I could shill for IDW,
Just not for their MLP. It's easily the companies' most mediocre run that's basically bathing in franchise-recognition alone than pure quality.
Are you honestly trying to tell me that those aren't tongues?
It's the red part. It is a bit like the standard toothless cartoon mouth style, except that the tongue is supposed to be covering the teeth.
The tongues are clearly inside the lips though, I don't know why that other guy is so buttblasted.
>anything that isn't hating the comic is a shill
/v/ detected. Nitpick somewhere else
>B-But you're just sayng that everyone should like the comic like a circle jerker
Eventually the argument would just go round and round until we just shout shill/bandwagoner at each other instead on focusing on actually criticizing and enjoying/or not enjoying a comic book.
Yeah, I noticed that too.
>you're angry because of that?
I wouldn't say angry about it. It's just a pet peeve I have with the way Price draws pony mouths.
Because it honestly looks to me like what the other Anon said about them being slack jawed and having their tongues sticking out. I'm only talking about it because it was brought up by someone else.
If you want to be taken seriously then try to speak like a human being and not like some well trained monkey, or soundmonkey.
Want to defend the comic and artists you seem to love so much? Perfectly valid option, but if all what you can do is spew out insults or "NO U!" shit without showing any rational argument, then don't complain when you are called a shill.
I don't really have a problem with that, really. The only thing I do have a pet peeve about the style is that every issue has at least one panel of one pony sticking their tongues up with a "trying" face, but it's not too annoying to me, just overdone.
>Want to defend the comic and artists you seem to love so much? Perfectly valid option, but if all what you can do is spew out insults or "NO U!" shit without showing any rational argument, then don't complain when you are called a shill.
Who said I love the comics? I'm simply arguing with anons on a certain matter. Eventually you just shout "shill detected" whenever someone defends anything, or at least nitpick to a certain thing. It's like going to /v/, they shout Marketer whenever they have a thread.
>Eventually you just shout "shill detected" whenever someone defends anything
"Shill detected" is said when someone claims to be "defending" something but is actually hurling insults and moving the goalposts to downplay a comic's bad points.
If you want to defend a comic or question the points climed by the guys criticrizing it, then do it in a rational way.
You are claiming to be the smart guy, so at least try to play the part.
Is this when she is searching for the gum? Seems like a common expression for a cartoon character lost in thought.
I noticed Celestia also did this particular face in that one panel with the cake. Maybe Price uses this mostly in food related panels?
Same goes to you. Explaining certain things doesn't warrant a "shill" accusation. Blatantly defending bad writing via "target audience little girls don't give shit about quality" is a better example. We're here discussing a comic of inconsistent quality, and if it's anything, shouting shills and trolls at each other won't help. We have perfectly reasonable anons on both sides who like and dislike the comics in the wednesday/Thursday comic threads. Posts like "shill detected" alone doesn't help. If you want to hate a comic or to defend a comic, give a reason why instead of resorting to buzzwords.
>Expect jerk mane6
I admit I was expecting a clever Derpy and zany 4th Doctor popping in to try help fix things.
I was also expecting alt Spike and Cook's Spike to join forces for a common cause, aka saving the worlds to save his own ass/ to save his loved ones.
Point me at a marure, rational and completely nonagressive, non-insult and non-condescending post defending this arc's quality and I will believe you.
So far all I can see are faggots like >>21023537
Well, Katie tries to hype herself out as a clever and imaginative writer, so if I buy her hype and expect her to be the one who finally could use Derpy in a story, I am allowed to feel dissapointed when her hype turns out to be just smoke and mirrors.
But anon, I wasn't even defending the reflections arc. No one is. I'm was referring to the other issues/storytime threads where people would shout shill whenever or the nitpicking for the art in some of the other issues.
Reflections and (in the future, the current wild west arc) are currently bad in my opinion, which is why I dropped the main run to look forward to the oneshots of FF.
Much more satisfying.
Just curious since we only have like 80 image slots left. Would people be into a second thread? I am staying up way late anyway so if you want one I am yours for the night.
But did she ever say or promise that Derpy would be in her story? I'm all for grilling people over broken promises but if she said nothing then she doesn't have an obligation to use our favorite meme pony.
Yep, not at all. I don't even remember Steve Martin Looking that annoyed in the entire movie they are basing this around.
My statement stands- show me a person defending IDW comics without resoring to bullshit and goalpost moving, all while he behaves in a polite and educate way.
All I can see in each and every comic threads is the same smugness, insults, disqualifications and "the comic is not for you, go away!" bullshit claims.
>smugness, insults, disqualifications and "the comic is not for you, go away!" bullshit claims.
So basically how the comic staff themselves acts? Where do you think they get it from?
It's not like they all go here or anything.
Well, Curnow admited he only visits echochambers like The Round stable and Equestria Daily for comments and criticism- which makes sense, seeing how he managed to chase away any person who ever tried to gat direct answers and voice honest opinions from IDW's own boards.
I hope they don't. I'd look like a total asshole. One of my biggest fears is a creator being mad at me for story timing their shit.
The same goes for the comic haters with grand smugness, insults and disqualifications, etc.
I'm not saying they,or the defenders are saints. It's just that everything is part of the discussion whether you're on the hate it or love it side. Now, I'm not saying that hating/defendingthe comic is a bad thing but rather, like I said before, is just my tiny peeve whenever someone just posts "shill detected (alone as a post without an added explanation)" like an insult that just adds to the deterioration of the discussion in the thread.
That is all.
Also my hands are freezing in this season.
We have had shockingly good weather here in Nebraska. Bundle up anon. Gotta wear gloves sometimes even if they make your hands feel weird.
A fair number do yeah. I try not to think about it. Like I am about 90% sure I heard Stokoe and Graham visit /co/ and that kinda wigs me out whem I think about it too hard. So I push it out.
I have the same offer to anyone on /co/ or /mlp/ if they are ever in Omaha I will treat them to coffee at Legend, our award winning comic and coffee shop.
I wouldn't care personally. What they get to see is unfiltered opinions on there comics. If they don't like what they see, it's their fault.
Did you see Atticon in the last comic thread? He didn't seem to happy about the new previews for the second issue for the Western arc.
Okay so I have to leave work now but I will continue when I get home. I'll be speeding and everything!
Hey, speaking about faggots who use the same argument in every thread...
This fella here drops by during every comic discussion to pick fights, insult everyone and whiteknight for free.
I wonder which part they hate. Is it the part where some people may not actually buy the issue because it's right here or is it because a lot of people get to see how bad it is and decide not to buy it?
I assume the second in my experience I hear a lot of people talk about a story time influencing their purchase if they like or hate it. Not a lot of people not buying it just because it was storytimed. If that makes sense
That's kind of what I expected. Also, if they hated the storytiming only, then they would hate almost every website that discusses there comics. I do visit other sites to see what they think and almost every single one of them have at least a yay ponies link.
Yes, he has an account there. The difference between him and the dumbasses there is that he is not batshit crazy and he can actually say negative things about the comics.
I know the feel, but for me the IDW ones are a day late for me, while the Marvel/DC ones are a week late in shipment, which is a first-come first-serve. Scalpers will annoy the shit out of completionists.
No that's fine. I was only commenting on which of those two categories I see more. I would never judge anyone for pirating. I mean look at what I do every day. I pirate a shit load.
Sorry about the slow posting. Switch from work to home internet is such garbage with a 4chan pass.
So guys I have to ask, and this is mainly for those of you that read comics,
What is your DREAM team for these books?
For me. Tobin writing and probably Skottie Young on art.
Young would be REALLY off model though. But I don't hate that at all.
I will always prefer Cook as an artist over her writing. Not that she hasn't written some great stuff. But I think her art is really good for short little shit.
And here comes the bullshit:
>"The worlds are collapsing because they are becoming too similar!"
> "I know! LET'S MAKE THE WORLDS EVEN MORE FUCKING SIMILAR, THAT WILL FIX EVERYTHING!"
How in the hell could someone still like this trainwreck after this.
