So how exactly does magic work for Unicorns?

The most we see Twilight do anymore is just magic blasts, but we see Starlight use magic to activate a spell circle? Are magic blasts more powerful than chosing to blast magic lighting, or blast magic fire?

Imagine being Twilight in this scene and having to be all like "damn, Rarity, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your pencil shaped body and horrific androgynous monster face. Spring's first weekend- there must have been a lot accomplished in the week, but also much celebration still! How often does she get to (or decide to) visit foreign nations? Does having Luna back free her up for it more? What kinds of spring ceremonies DO other places have?
