“My friends and I… were just starting to like girls. Age 11 or 12, I think. And at first, we kind of saw it as taboo to think like that. At least, the ones of us who hadn’t hit puberty yet.” You find yourself telling more truth than you thought you would.

“But that whole thing changed when all of us started thinking differently. And by the time we reached middle school, we were planning to get girlfriends and everything. Myself included. I don’t know if there’s anyone out there who stayed… kiddish by the time they reached that age. Let alone by the time they reached my age now.”

“…Not really. I’m not sure, because I feel like I’d miss out on a lot of feelings.”

>”So what happened?” Sunset gently places a hand on your shoulder.

“Had a friend named Romero. He started dating a girl before any of the rest of us. Her name was Rosie, and I gotta admit that they were pretty much perfect for eachother.”

>”Did they end up breaking up?” Sunset curiously asks.

“Uh, yeah, actually. That’s literally what happened.”

>”But I’m going to guess that you saw that as something more than a breakup, right?”

“Yup. You see… during the time they were together, Romero started telling me that he was worried that wasn’t making her happy enough at times. This was towards the end.”

>”Okay. I think I see where this is going.”

“They both started worrying too much because they… liked eachother so much I guess. Started draining their wallets to buy things, go places, and just spend more and more time together. It eventually got to the point where Romero wouldn’t even hang out with me anymore. He was like… always with Rosie. And they started to grow apart anyway. It was a lose-lose situation.”

>”Huh.”

“And then… things were overthought and they… they just… started getting irritated by little things. Romero would just want to be alone a lot. He was always busy. And then, it just ended.” These are more memories than you remember remembering.

“Just like that. And I’ve never trusted relationships ever since. And I’m sure we both know what happened with Twilight and all.”

>After nodding again, Sunset pauses for a moment, interpreting what you just told her. She stares at the crashing waves before the plane of white sand, letting the crashing waters help her think of how to break this to you.

“Yeah.”

>She sighs as though she’s pitying you. “Those kinds of relationships aren’t the real deal. Neither Romero or Rosie were mature enough to know how to handle a relationship. And they ended up overshooting and undershooting things. And it affected your friendship.”

“And what about so many married couples getting divorced?”

>”You really shouldn’t use that as a sign that relationships are bad. It’s just evidence that people make a lot of mistakes, single or not. And that it’s your responsibility to look into yourself and figure out your flaws so you can better yourself and improve on your interactions.” She smiles. “And I’m willing to take a bet that through all of this, you’ve learned a little bit about yourself. And I… think I have too.”

“Well… I…” You can’t make up a reason why she’d be wrong. And her finger tapping on your shoulder indicates that she playfully knows that she’s right and that you believe her.

>”Anon, we’ve actually learned a lot about eachother and ourselves during this whole thing that Twilight started. And I know that’s a bit of a weird thing to say, but you know I’m right. And you also know that this isn’t what she intended. She didn’t intend for the thing between you and Mary to happen. She wanted you to blindly go out with me and for it to fail so she can have you instead. She didn’t want you to learn who you really are.”
