What's the point of the Guntank anyway? It just looks like a shittier tank that is easier to hit because it's bigger.

In the federationvszeon game it absolutely raped mobile armors
To sell toys.
But yeah, it has all of the weaknesses of a tank and a giant robot combined. And a glass cockpit.
Before mobile suits were made I think the idea was for it to be a tank with arms, uniquely designed to be used within a space colony.
if the artificial gravity fails type-61s cant operate properly but guntanks can.
It is also possible that guntanks would make less of a collateral mess inside of a colony than mobile suits do because they don't fly around and fall over things.

Pretty much all proper mobile suits are overall bigger than tanks. Don't apply too much thought or you have no more MS or mecha in general. The Guntank, at any rate, is also shorter than any MS.
Anyways, the Guntank carries much heavier firepower than the Guncannon or Gundam, and in greater quantities, whilst providing an extremely stable firing platform which is capable of maintaining accuracy and rate of fire quite well compared to any legged MS, at the very least at the time. It'd be a little easier to mass-produce, cheaper overall, and wouldn't even have as many moving parts as a Mobile Suit. It clearly had its uses; in M'Quve's mines Amuro realized it was the best weapon to use against static targets such as fortresses. It could constantly carry both long ranged heavy weaponry and close-defense weapons without having to handle and manhandle or swap them, unlike most MS, and overall could be said to be one of the most specialized types of MS due to its layout restricting its versatility. Treads let it crawl about a little more easily than a suit, having no need to worry about footing or obstacles most of the time. It could even jump if it really had to!
The real main weakness of the Guntank was IMO its total lack of waist articulation- a result of Project V core block compatibility and something omitted from many other Guntank-type MS.
As time passed and MS both became more capable of fulfilling the Guntank's roles and battles became more and more about mobility (thanks, beams), the Guntank-type MS faded away.

Wasn't there a Guntank in F91?
>>15017820
That thing was pretty cool. I always use it in G Gen if it has it.
>>15017820
As >>15017826 posted, kinda but not really. It's a transforming MS, but not a full-on Guntank. The fact that it's already an antique when we see it speaks even more so to the sad death of the Guntank as a MS class in the UC.
>>15017826
This is my favorite transforming MS of all time. I wish more than anything for a modern kit of it.
>>15017838
Technically you have the Loto. If you stand up the old Guntank R44 1/144 and the Loto, the similarities are quite striking. It is most noticeable when you use the shoulder cannon attachments.
>>15017820
>>15017826
Don't think too much or you'll fall into /k/ territory
>>15017728
In the online game, they are artillery units capable of firing artillery barrages literal miles away. You can park them in a corner (like that scene in 08th MS Team where the Guntanks are parked in the city and get raped by Norris' Gouf Custom) and just rain artillery down on a radius you can't even see by plotting your barrage on a map.
>>15018483
This is literally it. The Guntank family are artillery/fire-support MS with limited self-defense capabilities at close range, which means they can operate closer to the battlefield without requiring as much of an escort as conventional artillery.
>defending the guntank when it was barely part of the show
Kek
>>15018178
Is the joke that she can't remember what their name is without seeing it as a tank?
>>15019331
The joke is more that she is a giant tank otaku and doesn't know anything else other than tanks
>>15017728
Because a guntank is basically the counterargument to all the faggoty
>Why not just put MS tech into tank
anons. They did that, and you got shit.
>>15020170
But the Hildofr exists
>>15017728
Proof of concept, I think
>>15017826
wasn't there a variation of this one on unicorn?
>>15020170
just sawing a gundum in half and giving it tracks like the feddies did is a stupid way of adding MS tech into a tank.
the argument you're misrepresenting is more along the lines of why not give tanks minovski reactors and thrusters, etc.
>>15020252
Those are Mobile Armors anon.
We all know how those turn out.
>>15020253
He died for our sins
>>15020249
The Guntank R-44 was based on the Loto featured in Unicorn, yes.
>>15017728
>What's the point of the Guntank anyway?
In MSG ? To provide long range support to the Gundam
>>15019331
Yes.
>>15017838
all time...
Origin says that they were designed primarily as a show of strength to intimidate the space colonists rather than having any true practical use.
>>15017728
What's the point of the Xamel anyway? It just looks like a shittier hovercraft that is easier to hit because it's bigger.
>>15020759
It can do mobile suit things but also has a colossal anti-ship cannon on the back controlled by a second pilot and also T H I C C
MG 1/100 RX-75
>>15017728
The weirdest thing about it is how Tomino thought the G-Armor and co was the death of his Gundam with how obviously nonsensical and toyetic it was but was totally okay with Guntank
>>15021745
He wasn't okay with GUNTANK...IN SPACE! He that changed to a 2nd Guncannon in the movies.
>>15020759
Massive artillery support? It's a straight upgrade from Hildolfr.
>>15020185
mah nigga
>>15021982
Hildolfr remind me of KV-2
