You might have been the person who responded to me a while back, not sure by now.

Dai-Guard and Tetsujin are there mostly to show some examples of early attempts Earth made in robot technology, and how clunky they are in a sense compared to the "better" technology of the Gundam. Tetsujin is just a large hunk of walking remote-controlled metal, and Dai-Guard has its own hosts of issues.

Not to mention that they're originally rolled out because in the early parts of the story only a few strange occurrences are hitting Earth (a few aliens are around in space, but they haven't made any big appearance ground-side yet, just causing problems for the conflicts up there and often having the Radam complicate things as well), so the Federation wants to throw an old war relic and something originally made to fight Heterodyne at them, then Raideen and his villains come into play and then things just start spiraling.

GAIL would probably just be enlisted by the Zeon alliance to stir up trouble and assist them on ground-side assaults. At least until Gorg starts throwing rocks.

I don't want to cut it down to bare minimums, after all; I've already cut Dunbine, Iczer and Dangaioh from the concept. At this point the only other consideration I'm making for a cut would be Golion.

I'd say it's because the enemy squads are only ever going to be paired based on their series (so they have a limited selection of what's going to be in their squad compared to you) and are usually in set patterns so you can always choose the best one to counter theirs
I can't remember a time when the Chiram Devices were ever a threat, especially since they love Center formation so much, and don't hit that hard in general. I'm pretty sure only bosses take advantage of Tri attacks to pierce your barrier, and the most annoying of enemies, Shadow Angels never come in groups to begin with.

What with the alliances going on, it would have been really great/unique if they tried to write in an anti-ZEUTH squad that had a bunch of different series attacking you at once, but that's really hard to wrangle in any super robots in there, and I'd say it'd be harder to even write, especially if they're breaking up ZEUTH to have them fight each other in the first place.

Still, I'd rather have a squad system than not in a big SRW

Oh, sure, having a squad system in the game is based on the designer's preference - still I think if someone is going to design a new squad system for their fangame or whatever, it's probably more interesting if you don't try to make it "player/enemy symmetric" and just recognize that the enemy is not really going to take advantage of any real nuance in the system (is there even a single enemy in Z1 that SWITCHES formations?) and design around that fact.

Height: 40.7 metres
Weight: Unknown
Weapons: ZO Sword, Gun Familiar, Axion Cannon, Infinity Cylinder

A mysterious humanoid mobile weapon that cannot yet exist, though some claim to have glimpsed it. It appears out of nowhere, and is thought to be able to travel not just through space but also through parallel worlds. However, its methods of doing so and power source are unknown. It is assumed to be part of the "Chum Tzelem" series of mobile weapon Euzeth Gozzo was working on in the Ze Balmary Empire, but it is unknown if this unit belongs to the empire. Also, technology from Earth's (the surface world) and the underground world of Ra Gias is also used in it, as it has a T-Link System, a sword that uses Zol Orihalconium, and remote attack weapons called familiars. However, its association if any with the SRX and Masoukishin is unknown.

Weapons (Infinity Cylinder and Gun Familiar are only in the Premium Edition manual)

-Active Wing Unit
Seems to be an upgraded version of the same unit used by the Ze Balmary Empire's humanoid mobile weapon Garilnagant, but further details are unavailable.

-ZO Sword
Zol Orihalconium Sword. Zol Orihalconium is a liquid that turns into a solid via a crystalisation process which requires the insertion of a crystal nucleus, and the resulting metal crystal (solid) varies depending on the type of nucleus used.

-Infinity Cylinder
The strongest of the Astranagant's weapons. Said to be able to erase its targets by reversing time through the high-speed oscillation of ten neutron stars summoned via phase regulation, but it is doubtful that this is even possible.

-Gun Familiar
Remote assault weapons that resemble revolvers. There are two, and each seems to possess something like its own will.
