Gunpla / Plamo General

***READ THE GUIDE***

https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1Tr8UyF2Xg5Ojqw0sxcO7oIG7IIsJPes3lMO5pHZKu5o

***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

Probably.

If they make one at all? No, probably not as it would be an entirely new mold as a 2.0. And WZC stuff always sells well even in nipland.

Pretty much, but if you put the effort in they can look pretty good.

If I wanted to make a custom based on the Endimyon Mk II from Einhander, what unit would you guys recommend as the base?

I was thinking something like the Zeta Plus. Thoughts?
>>
>>13873968
The Messala in its flying mode seems like a good option for the base kit. It has a similar enough shape.
>>
>>13873968
Keep in mind if the large majority of shapes are long, thing squares Plaplate may be a useful solution to the problem.
>>
>>13874001
The Messala's jets would actually be a pretty good thing to use. Hell over all it's not a bad idea. Just not a huge fan of it's overall design.

>>13874006
True. Very true. I'm just thinking of a good starting point kit, ya know? Something to make it based on/inspired by. Maybe bashing the Messala with the Zeta Plus with some plaplate for details wouldn't be a bad idea at all.
>>
>>13874022
Don't forget that if you want to use the Messala there was the old 1/144 from pre-HGUC that would be smaller. Less cost and more comparable size-wise to a Zeta I believe.

Do I need to sand internal frames on MG and RG? Especially RG because those pieces are so damn small.

Just bought an Ahead, because I could use some variety in my collection and Aheads seem to look quite good when painted.

Does anybody like the Ahead? I've never really seen anybody announcing their love for the thing.
>>
>>13874125
For RG depends on how OCD you are I guess.

For me I don't really. I just make sure to clean up seam lines with my knife, and make all the cuts to the ABS inner frame clean and flush.

All plastic bits and pieces and anything showing gets sanded though.

>>
>>13874119
Yep, I think last I checked the old 1/144 Messala was on eBay for $10 or so.
>>13874132
Ahead is an unsung grunt of 00, everyone always defaults to the (admittedly cool) Flags. I enjoy the chunky, muscular proportions of the Ahead, and it's got lots of cool "oni" customs online. Post here when it's done.
>>13874079
It's not generally that simple, especially when factoring in inner frames. Look at Dalong.net to see how the instruction manuals match up. Modifying kits to work together often involves at the least drilling holes, you will want a pin vise and the appropriate still bits. And obviously paint.
>>

Reviews for the 1/100 gusion are out and include a frame comparison with barbatos. Looks like it's 95% the same but there are a couple of new parts like the gusion has a flater shoulder joint, wider foot part, and a couple others. So buying a barbatos 1/100 for cheaper than another gusion and putting the extra parts onto that may not be an option.

It's literally "Katoki's Version" of the Nu and not meant to replace the old one or be the official one. The "evoke mode" is meant to represent the Nu falling apart and newtype energy pouring out of the cracks as its psychoframe overloads. Its just his interpretation of the Nu that has it, not the original. There's a nifty interview with him included in the manual that explains it.

Again, not something I was expecting.

I knew the Unicorn was a giant, but for whatever reason I expected Sinanju to be a little shorter.

Though, I'm an idiot for thinking that considering HG Sinanju is just as if not a little more taller than MG F91. I mean, it's shield alone is taller than an HG Graze.

I'm planning on getting a Stein with my taxes (and possibly a Mk-II 2.0 to go with my Zeta 2.0) so that's why I was curious. Speaking of, I know someone said I should get an Armed Armor DE shield for it, but do they come in different colors (in regards to the psychoframe) and if so, is there a specific color I get?

So are RGs done different from HGs? Cause I recall HGs being done arms first, then legs.

Or are you not following the instructions to the letter and building the legs first for reasons?
>>
>>13877970
Most RGs start with the legs from what I've built.

(Wing Zero, Exia R3, 00 Seven Sword/G, Red Frame, and now Zeta)

I think the MK2 starts with the whole inner frame first, but I've not done that yet.

HGs start with upper torso and head first, unless it's a zaku or something with that piping, in which case it starts with the complete torso first. Then comes the head, then the arms, then the legs, then the lower torso (if not built already) and then lastly the accessories. I don't know what HGs you're building that start with the arms first.
>>
>>13877986
Seems interesting. A local hobby shop of mine has an RG Destiny Gundam gathering dust. If it's still there, maybe I'll pick it up. Might not be too bad for my first RG.

>>13878034
I was meaning first as in the were built before the legs, not first as in they were built before anything else.

I probably should have worded it as "arms were built before the legs." But it is what it is. C'est la vie and all.
>>
>>13878043
Keep in mind RGs have a lot of fragile and small parts, and are mainly meant for posing, not for playing. Don't be surprised if something breaks, so take your time and go easy on it.

I have an unbuilt RG Destiny behind me too, just waiting for some paints to arrive before I build it.
>>
>>13878070
I don't really play with my HGs I just kinda build them and store them, but I do like how detailed the RGs are.

The Hi-Nu is supposed to be a "complete" Nu Gundam, so it's a little smaller to indicate that it's been refined.

Not that the height matters because the Nu is a better design no matter how you slice it.

>>13876462
It's because nobody liked the Duel, the Buster, the Blitz, or the Aegis that much before the redesigns came in. Freedom was actually a popular design, so when it gets changed up to distinguish it from the 1.0 (a stated goal of the entire 2.0 line), people complain.

Seriously though, if you don't like MG Freedom 2.0 then just don't get it. Christ.
>>
>>13878344
>The Hi-Nu is supposed to be a "complete" Nu Gundam, so it's a little smaller to indicate that it's been refined.
I'm pretty sure that the hi-nu is based on the artwork from the CCA Novel and the Nu is from the movie, not that the hi-nu is an upgrade of the nu. Could be wrong though, I dunno
>>
>>13877232
Wound up at a old flame's place the night before so I got home late and only had time for some nub filing on the gits say haw prototype
>>
>>13878349
It's a little more confusing than that (the Hi-Nu /is/ the Nu Gundam in Beltorchika's Children, the regular Nu outright never existed; same goes for Nightingale and Sazabi), but it's pretty much been canonized as an upgrade. The Fin Funnels are better implemented than the Nu's literal "oh fuck we're adding something at the end? Uh, I don't know, slap them on back or something", has a stronger weapon loadout (including a super silly giant gun that connected directly to the Ra Cailum), and even has more psycoframe since it outright steals some from an enemy suit.

Oh and, you know, the serial number is RX-93-v2.
>>
>>13878349
No, you're right. The Hi-Nu is simply an alternate dimension Nu and it doesn't even have the Hi-Nu originally. That was a moniker given to the design to distinguish it from the film version.

In the film the Nu Gundam is complete as is. It was originally going to be a high-performance MS but August and the AE labs got their hands on the psyocframe and lined the cockpit with the stuff. According to the movie the only stuff that wasn't complete was the fine tuning of the psycoframe, something that becomes a plotpoint when the fin funnels' tuning was too sensitive and resulted in Kayra's death (in Amuro's eyes anyway). Basically, the movie Nu is physically the "complete" Nu of the film continuity. The only incomplete part was the tuning of the psycoframe.

The Hi-Nu is a physically different altogether obviously, and IIRC it's developed after Londo Bell salvages a Psyco Geara Doga and finds the psycoframe inside.
>>
>>13878388
>No, you're right. The Hi-Nu is simply an alternate dimension Nu and it doesn't even have the Hi-Nu originally. That was a moniker given to the design to distinguish it from the film version.
I meant it doesn't have the name Hi-Nu originally.
>>
>>13877970

My RG GP01 had me start with the core fighter, then legs, lower torso, upper chest, arms, then head.
>>
>>13878411
I think the core fighter makes sense with the GP01 since it forms the torso part of the inner frame. Unlike a lot of the RGs it won't go together with solely the inner frame runner.

It's done through a procedure that has a 50/50 mortality rate and is only used by lower class groups in modern times to compensate for lack of equipment/training and on top of that you have to still be in your growing phase to have it done as adult bodies reject the procedure.

Basically it's something only used by scummy groups in modern times.

Nips have trouble pronouncing certain sounds. Alaya Vijnaya is the official name and is named after a Buddhist Concept. They just have a hard time pronouncing it because it makes use of certain sounds not commonly found in the Japanese vernacular.

Planning to get into plamo, didn't see answers to my questions in the guide. Would you guys recommend for or against Frame Arms kits? And are gundam markers acceptable for painting a figure? They seem like an alien concept to someone who's only painted with brushes.

The Gundam Markers are actually paint markers, and they're best really for touching up details, not widespread painting. You can drain the markers into a pan and brushpaint with it, and I've heard mixed reports saying that they're thinned properly as is, while others say that they need more thinner. From what I understand they're enamels.

Definitely practice on plastic spoons before you go crazy on your gunpla though.

It's called yellow paint.
>>

Mixing paint in percentages and the percentages being in nip frightens me.

And in terms of the colours of Gundam Markers, has anyone ever made a graph on what colours the pens actually are, rather than a Bob Ross approximation in terms of a random name.

A 1 for 1 Heat Hawk copy would have been better then what they currently have. That axe is so dumb that if I were in a zombie apocalypse and saw that lying on the ground next to a giant double ended floppy purple dildo I'd take the dildo as a weapon and leave the axe on the ground.

All of the Grazes are fun and easy builds. They have a standard inner frame over which you attach the armor pieces to. I have 4 of them, 2 regular Grazes with one having the shoulder cannon and hip thruster accessories, the Graze Kai, and the Schwalbe Graze.
>>
>>13881691
>shoulder cannon
That in one of the weapon packs?

My issue with the Grazes, at least the Graze Kai, is the skirt armour is practically impossible to denub without leaving massive fucking gouge marks due to them putting the gate in the least convenient place ever.
>>
>>13881730

The dark green pieces are hard as stone. They are the hardest plastic I've ever seen in a Bandai kit and denubbing them required a lot of sanding and plastic cement.

But other than that, they're a dream.
