Gunpla / Plamo General

***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!
Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

Actually I quite like this with the HWS shield on also...
Help me decide
I have started and stopped building kits st different stages to the point i do not know which one to do. Gonna list them in the stage they are in
Bandai New Order Trooper
HG Turn A
Full paint/primer job
HG GM Striker
HG GM Cardigan
HGBF Crossbone Full Cloth
HGBF Leopold da Vinci
>Inb4 thin your paint
I like my paint thick and my zakus orange
Did you finger paint that with craft paint?
It looks like shit, people say to thin it for a reason.
>gundam model is fun hobby and i see you have the enjoyment.
>but qualities of building is very poor. forgive.
You forgot to seamweld, and that makes an already shit paint job look so much worse.
It's already a ground type desert Zaku II
No additional sand needed
I don't know why you're all getting upset. I'm doing what I like, and I guess since you don't like it I'm supposed to stop? Man I should listen to you people more, you're obviously hardcore competitive gundam builders
Hop off my cock pit
Yeah, I'm just going to leave it like that. No shit genius, it's not finished.
It's almost as bad as r9k's whining. Berating people to make yourself bigger. Autism is a funny thing
Also, it's just an HG zaku. I made the visor myself. I do what I want
It's not autism. You just suck shit at making plastic models.
Pic related its the same kit you have, albeit not built by a 3 year old.
Actually, no. It's not the same kit. My zaku doesn't have boosters on the back. Instead of assuming and being a keyboard commando why don't you instead try to be more constructive with your comments.
And I'm not 3, I wouldn't be allowed to post here. Thanks.
I think you should try dry brushing the weathering effects. It gives a more subtle look rather than being very harsh.
>Calls thread ruined
Also none of the kits I posted are pointing their gun at
>black and edgy
>literally no bright color
>can't even see the clear parts properly due all that black
>black and edgy
>literally no bright color
>can't even see the clear parts properly due all that black
The great mask would like to have a word with you.
Finally finished this Zaku.
My kid insisted on being in the background, sorry.
wow I'm def diggin this. I have a Zaku I kitbash I'm preparing to do and purple is one of the colors I plan on using (not for the main color, more for certain accents on it) so it's really good to see how nice that color looks on there. Nice work!
Just finished the hg z'gok. I didn't like the suit at the beginning but after building it I love it. How do I fix the seam lines though?
I've got a basic (and possibly dumb) painting question. I'll probably answer it myself by experimentation at some point, but I might as well ask some general opinions.
Anyway, I use Vajello acrylics to paint my models. mostly just for touch-up and detailing work. I'm doing this by hand so I don't want to hand paint the entire thing (and, well, I hear there's trouble doing so and covering up brushstrokes at times). They're generally quite good, but silver and other metallic colors don't seem to work very well in that line. I have no clue why, but it tends to just not coat very well and otherwise take a lot of going over to actually get a good look.
So, is it just a matter of something like laying down a layer of a lighter color first, if I'm going to be painting something dark (as seems to often work well if painting yellow)? Or should I just go buy a little pot of Testors enamel for silver, which tends to do a better job if I remember correctly?
So i'm thinking of getting Extreme Blast mode Destiny, but i heard it comes with watermark decals. my only experience with those so far were with MG Sinanju and i couldnt use them at all. they just kept falling off even after leaving them alone. do you pretty much have to buy mark softer or something for them?
more progress with the MG Nu ver Ka
it is one big son of a bitch
Since we aren't getting an HG Leo any time ever... I'm making all of my dioramas with Hi-Mocks... the mock is similar enough to a leo... right?
I have 8 of them in the mail now.
they do the same thing
regular cement has a closer consistency to a gel whereas thin is more like water
i get better results with regular cement as it tends to fill up the gaps a bit better
regardless i still often go over every seam at the end with some tamiya putty
sorry, here's a RG in front of it
I'd participate in these threads but the majority of you are such autistic jealous nerds that it just isn't worth it. The butthurt is funny for awhile but there's much better gunpla communities out there.
I fucking swear you guys have the reading level of a first grader. You dab it along seam lines and capillary actions causes it to flow evenly through the gap. You know, like a panel wash?
this is literally the same fucking shit that went down in /vp/s giveaway and wifi general, people who used trips so as to prevent impostors only further encouraged impostors through the board culture of anonymity and bashing of tripfags. but this is quite a bit different, as when you work on a project it can only be you working on it, as it is your work alone, and no one can replicate it. whereas with /vp/ case the givers were forced out due to game updates allowing others to graph in their own pokes for a while. someone COULD start up a giveaway general or something but they'd get bashed until they gave up. but as i said some cases tripping is necessary and on /m/ there arent many cases, aside from what i can think for theres an anon fan subbing medabots rn. that would warrant it
decided to make this my next project. if i wanted to make it glow blue the best i could do is cast the banshee clear parts then make them out of clear blue plastic right? thats the only thing i can think of without painting blue it like the guide says
Boy this place really never goes long without becoming a cesspool of shitposting and anger.
i'm actually more of a MG guy but my other issue is i already have 4 Zakus so getting chars would seem the same build over again, and while is Gelgoog is possibly my favorite, i already have a one of those aswell.
i might get the Z'Gok but its just ok to me
How can i make my own anti-beam cloak? This shit looks silly as hell
you could take a thin shirt and cut it yourself, or i've heard people make good ones out of puddy.
i'm trying to make it work before i waste a shirt
Just experiment with different types of cloth. mine still looks pretty bad imo but I'm still just trying out different things and techniques. I will say though that one of the positives of using actual cloth rather than that nylon shit the kit comes with is that when you take a file to it you can easily get that frayed look. Anyway, with out further ado, I present hobo crossbone.
while we are at it, whats some good 1/144 scale daggers as well?
something less pronounced and clunky looking. I've been thinking about doing a custom stealth model and thought about mixing the k-9 wit the RGM-96x. The backpack with retractable shield is perfect
>So i'm thinking of getting Extreme Blast mode Destiny
Buy the MB version of Dragon Momoko, nigga... Only acceptable answer in 2016.
Is there any kind of reasoning whatsoever to have a horde of RGM-79 GMs? I mean, it would look cool, obviously... but should I do it?
I found a place selling them $5 apiece, and they have an assload of them.
Help me anons
At first I intensely disliked the Zeong because it was just "funnel hands" and "beamspam", but the more I think about it the more it's grown on me. The thing is creepy as shit and I love it.
The Hell Zeong Marine and Hell Zeong Galaxy can't even come close to it.
I still love the old mg 1.0 zaku I
Articulation is shit but it stands well lol
Oh man is the Kampfer a sexy beast
And yes, I painted all of its thruster bits a more realistic grey instead of yellow, sorry if that triggers anybody
I just realised that I like the Zaku 1 a lot, but only when it has symmetrical shoulders. Which would require me to buy two kits. God damn it.
I meant symmetrical shoulder pauldrons.
Kotobukiya continues their reign of terror on my wallet.
New frame arms girls...
New shinki kits...
Megami devices prototypes....
pics from Winter Wonderfest 2016
Ok but where are the robots
I was told there would be robots and all I see are anime girls in cosplay
I've been thinking about picking up a Zaku 1 MG particularly since I just picked up a HY2M head for the MP one.
I just might throw a command horn on it and pick up Ral's to paint into a custom.
Weird, I thought I said word for word "looks pretty bad imo" so either I forgot to say that (oh wait I didn't forget) or you're a retard that doesn't know how to read, but hey, thanks for the informative constructive opinion on something I didn't know!!! I'd be lost without you anon!! Bless tiny baby Jesus for bringing you into this world for I would have never been the wiser of my faults!!! Praise Him!!! If there's anything I can do for you for bringing this to my attention, please let me know, I am indebted to you for all time. Praise you anon.
You can do just as well with Citadel and Testors, of course. At the end of the day, the only real difference between the paints are what they makers decide to call the colour red.
the GN pistols that come with the HG Astraea are pretty nice I think. The kit pictured is the RG Astraea but it doesn't come with the pistols so I took them from the HG and attached them on, so if you think they are cool as well, you would need to buy the HG Astraea to get them.
Also check out kotobukiya weapon sets, I don't know the specific one but I know there's at least one that has a set of pistols.
Strike Nior Gundam has sum pistols. They also have the sights on the side so your gunpla can hold them sideways and still use steel sights.
>the only real difference between the paints are what they makers decide to call the colour red.
Each brand of paint has different consistency and airbrushes different. You can spray Tamiya acrylic through an airbrush without thinner and it comes out great. Try that with Model Master acrylic, will be splotchy as hell.
If anyone cares, you can pre-order the Dendrobium from Crunchyroll for 280 buckarinos but only for the next four hours.
>Max Factory's Gipsy Danger forgotten, No release date or news of cancellation.
>Announces the Cherno Alpha anyway.
I like the main body, wish it didn't come with massive attachments to jack up the price.
Feet could stand to be less stubby too. So many tiny stubby feet in modern mecha design. I suppose it's better than ZII style clownshoes.
Huh. The scope IS actually painted, I didn't get it at an angle that shows.
Fuck. I ordered the white one when I was in a hurry and I didn't bother to check if it came with all the weapons the red one has
Guess I'll have to get the other one too if I want those pistols and holsters
Good news. The HGUC Hi-Nu can hold the HWS beam rifle.
One last picture for now. Would definitely recommend this kit despite it being a somewhat unpopular redesign, it comes off quite nicely.
Already built it. HGUC Hi-Nu. Pleasantly surprised, I must say.
HGUC Delta Gundam. Coming along pretty well so far, but I accidentally made too many blood sacrifices to Plamor so I have to wait a bit before I can continue. Dat delicious gold though.
tried the tamiya plastic cement on polycaps, it just evaporated or something. completely disappeared once I applied it to the polycap. polycap didn't even melt or anything.
That's kinda what I was asking, what kind of glue.
Started work on this several months ago, finally got around to painting it. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it.
>Buy 3.0 Gundam
>love the look and design but hate how fragile he is
>bought Gundam the Origin because i heard he has great posablity and looks unique.
surely this will be the last time i buy a RX-78
ever since I got the hyakushiki, I wanted to see these 2 together
probably by next week
also, I decided to paint the thrusters with silver and the inner yellow piece with metallic red and the result is very good
That is not a good spoiler desu a good one would be
everyone in the cabin is part of the bitch's brother band and his brother is hiding below the floor, he then shoots the blck dudes balls and in the end the bitch gets hanged by the black dude and the sheriffstep it up senpai
He means chronologically. Sentinel came out in 89, I think? AOZ was the 2000's, but is set in Zeta time, whereas Sentinel is ZZ era.
Given the amount of time and effort that some people put into gundam models, why don't people build a small 10x10x10cm EDM machine, small table/desk top 5 axis mill, table/desk top 4 axis microlathe, injection molder, and have everything be as high quality as you want?
// edm because even with custom tooling and a 5 axis mill, there are some things that just can't be done without it.
Or is it more about the process and less about the product for you guys?
>you are a fucking dumbass
Could you clarify my good sir?
Would you rather I spout off memes?
Hey why don't you try 3d printing?
Have you heard about laser sintering?
Addative manufacturing is a viable technology for end products.
Why don't you just buy toys that are already assembled?
What is the point in having toys if you don't play with them?
Hey anon, those are some pretty spiffy action figures you got there.
OK, let me make it easy for you then: Because it's not that simple nor do you get the level of detail you could even hope for. You're better off making your own parts from scratch at that point.
>You're better off making your own parts from scratch at that point.
But that's what I suggested...
I thought it was fairly clear that I was suggesting use of the mill and edm for mold construction.
Because getting a title is a bitch.
Why would you make a mold? Are you seriously that retarded? There is no purpose to have a mold unless you're re-casting the same part like 10+ times. Even then you just use Resin & Silicone to do that.
Anon was saying it's nothing special. Especially since it's just the regular release HG. It's not new, nor unique. The other anon made no mention of making any changes to it either. So no one cares.
Why doesn't the Kimaris get more love? It's basically a better Kabakali. And people were super hard on this board for the Kabakali even though it was nothing special.
For fuck's sake the Kimaris even comes with a beautiful gigantic lance. It's a treasure.
>Given the amount of time and effort that some people put into cars, why don't people build a small car factory and have everything be as high quality as you want?
I'm sorry it appears as though I misread your post.
But again as before, the answer is because getting a title is a bitch. Or that they don't care enough and are ok with working within the constraints of the market in terms of price and quality, instead of being able to do whatever they like for nickels on the dollar.
However, I believe the answer you are trying to lead me to is: although model building is autistic, it's not that autistic.
>She can't understand a hobby that promotes creativity and care for your work which can let you and your kid both relax and express yourselves and helps you bond
It's a perfectly reasonable hobby in terms of skill, especially at the level people get to when fully repainting.
As far as hobbies go, model building isn't very autistic at all. Building models of giant robots from a japanese mecha show is slightly more so, but still not really all that autistic.
Not him but I recognize GM type C head and maybe arms?
The legs look like the wagtail but I'm not entirely sure
rifle looks like the duel gundam's
backpack looks like the k9 pack with the cannon builder part attached to it
vernier builder parts on the butt
armor builder parts all over the kit
I'd really like to know what the chest came from though, it's really bothering me because it looks really familiar, like I know that kit really well but I just can't put my finger on it.
I dont remember this guy at all in Zeta
probly because i watched the movies
who is this sexy machine and is there a model of him?
That's the Messala, it's canonically the first transforming Mobile Suit(barring retcon shenanigans). Scirocco piloted it and fought Kamille and Quattro while they were on their way to the Jaburo operation.
Chest vents are from the Wagtail set, they just plug into the regular GM chest.
honestly i like everything about it except the head totally ruins it for me. it just looks derp as fuck with it sticking up like that. if I saw a picture of a kimaris with a different heat on it that didnt look out of place i would get th kit in a heartbeat.
it's a big kit for sure, one of my favorite kits to build
it comes with a very clever stand that holds every spare part for the kit including the beam saber blades (on top)
Disregard >>13851512, that wasn't me. Yeah, she asks me to paint her fingernails sometimes, so I do. As for getting her into plamo, hell yes I will. She already knows which one is a Zaku, a GM(Jim) and a Zudah. She's only 4, so it'll be a bit before I get her building on her own, but I'm planning on getting her an SD kit of some kind to build with her some time soon.
yeah that's exactly what I meant in my post, sorry if it didn't come across that way. Everything up to the v-fin looks good to me. I've though about what it would be like to just get the kit and then just cut that part out and then sand down the top of the head into a suitable shape.
