Do bits of this look cg to anyone else? The bit where the feniche and build strike join fists also looked like cg. Not hating on it or anything and dont want it to become one of THOSE kinds of threads, but are there any other examples of the this. Where a mixture of both 2d and 3d is used for the same elements. I noticed fafner exodus used 2D occasionally to my surprise for its mechs, despite it mostly seeming 3D

No
>>
What CG?
>>
glowing red heat hawks look like Computer animation, not CGI.
>>
Why would you want your 2d to be 3d and vice versa, inconsistent animation is the mark of an incompetent team.

There's a scene of the full armor VF0 in Macross Zero that's hand drawn close up but fades to CGI at a distance to transition into a CGI Itano circus.
>>
Possibly rotoscoped
Watching the scene those bits do stick out as they do look a lot more on model than everything else before it. It could just be really well animated but it kind of lacks the weight and the movement feels slightly awkward compared to the rest of the scene
Again maybe I'm just not used to good animation or stuff being on model. But then the only me ha show I've been watching at the moment is IBO so that would explain a lot
>>
>>13835248
>>13835176
Possibly rotoscoped, yeah.
It's what Otaking did for his TIE Fighter short.
>>
>>13835176
I'm dying to know how build fighters had better animation than SEED, SEED Destiny, 00, AGE, and IBO with very little instances of QUALITY.

The animators aren't getting bored of animating the same 5 mobile suits in an episode.

>00
Nah. Outside of G-Reco, 00 had the best looking animation of any Gundam TV series production.
>>
>>13835176
It's not CG. Just a very good 2D.
>>
>>13835176
Possibly traced from 3D animatics.
>>
>>13836279
Longer pre-production time and shorter episodes. Unlike 00, it was always planned as a 2 cour show.
>>
>>13836279
00 looked good though. At least for a TV anime. And I don't remember Age looking particularly bad. Granted, I dropped it halfway through, but still.
>>
>>13836547
In the middle of the first season most of the gundam looked derpy. But that was because the design is too complex to animate.

You people did this for Thunderbolt as well.

For all of the wanking over how perfect 2D is, the moment well-drawn 2D art comes in you accuse it of being CG or traced from CG. You seem to have little faith in your preferred medium.

S1 did, but S2 was complete garbage. Even AGE looks better than that.
>>

>00 had the best looking animation of any Gundam TV series production.

Is this a joke? Virtually every 90s gundam has better animation than 00S2. They purposely simplified down the line work for the S2 suits, using the excuse that it would allow the fights to be more animated, but then they just had the suits teleport around all over the place with GN particle hax. Everything in S2 from the suit designs to the animation and fight choreography was a huge downgrade compared to S1. It was honestly terrible looking.

I should have known better. Go back to myanimelist with your shit taste please.

>>13835176
No. This fight was animated (keys) by Se Jun Kim who's consistently fucking amazing. He's just that good.

What you said is wrong, you fedora tipping cumstain. That's the argument, fucktard. Enjoy your stock footage Wing and no shading Victory.
>>
>>13836798
People actually have a problem with Victory having no shading at points when it has the best choreography in the franchise?

This. Seriously, he REALLY nailed the Kanada-style animation in robots. His works are far better than Obari who's now a lazy fucker who didn't even animate his robots yet still overrated by many.

>>13836619
It's kind of amazing, really.

Happens in every single Break Blade thread too.
>>
>>13838026
Animation has never been Obari's most notable strength. I'll agree that his animation is much more average than most people claim; it's his mastery of perspective and lighting that sets him apart.
>>
>>13836642
Post more 0083 stiches, I know you saved them all from that thread

>>
>>13836619
Anon just because it's not obvious, that doesn't mean it's not there. Not that it should matter what tools or techniques are used anyway. All that matters is whether you believe the illusion
>>
>>13835200
this.
>>
>>13835248
2D rotoscopy of 3D is a brilliant practice, and I wish for the love of fuck it would be used more often then shitty hand-drawn 2D or choppy ugly cel-shaded 3D
>>
>>13838621
Roto is actually the most jarring of the whole lot, remember the whole fiasco with Aku no Hana?

That's not to say it's inherently bad, but it has its place. Like, it makes sense when you want to create a visual atmosphere where the line between real and fake is blurred, like in some sort of PKDesque narrative. But as some way of combining strengths of 2D and 3D it's not going to be any better than just mastering one or the other.

The technology used should tell a story as much as the story itself. How an object is visually represented carries meaning, to arbitrarily portray it is to completely disrespect the visual medium in its entirety.
>>
>>13838705
>fiasco with Aku no Hana?
That was only because they did some uncanny valley weirdness, if you look at Otakings stuff it looks good (just the mechs, his people look weird)
>>
>>13838705
>ANN says asukas fight in end of evangelion id rotoscoped
is this true? i know its ANN but still
>>
>>13838787
Not sure.

I'm not that big a visuals wizard, sorry if I gave you a wrong impression.
>>
>>13838769
Otaking's work still has a complete lack of decent easing. Actually, now that I think about it, the only thing his animations do right is having a lot of secondary animation.
>>
>>13838787
Nope.
That fight was handled by Mitsuo Iso, who doesn't rotoscope, and Yoh Yoshinari, whose work in that fight is nowhere close to looking like it was rotoscoped.
>>
>>13839275
Hell, here's the genga, while we're at it.
>>
Have a little more faith in 2D animation, anon. Early GBF episodes are on-model most of the time. They only goes off-model on unimportant shit like Felini vs Aila or the wacky race episode.
>>
>>13836773
Only Victory and Turn A were better looking than 00, and Victory is about the same. I don't why people exaggerate about the particle hax. You had lots of elaborate large-scale fights in 00S2. The movie is more frustrating, cause it's pretty and has great designs, but not very interesting fights. Although it's still interesting for a gundam show.
>>
Looks 2D to me. Animating on model isn't that big of a deal when they have good scheduling and actually give a shit.
>>
>>13840672
The movie fights were just terrible. Felt similar to the innovade kamikaze rush too.
>>
>>13840731
I liked the innovade fights too. Not amazing, but good designs, distinct from the rest of the show, and they were fun classic space battles. Much better than IBO battles.
>>
>>13840672
AWoTB's premise didn't really lend itself for interesting fights, considering the antagonists are little more than a constant zerg rush.
>>
>>13837773
Holy shit, that's pretty neat.
