A general probably isn't the place for this, but is it an unpopular opinion to think season 1 of this show was great but season 2/3 were bad?

season 1, despite being a show where the plot happens because a lady literally wants to fuck god, felt like a show that had a pretty solid plot to it and action scenes that actually had something going on beyond being action scenes where the lady sings a pop song while punching things

meanwhile season 2/3 felt very, for a lack of a better word, market friendly. Just shove a bunch of new characters in there, repeat a lot of stuff we already did and don't worry that the main characters are sort of flat because they already got developed because we have half a dozen new characters that we have to try and develop all at the same time while also having More Epic Action Scenes

probably the best example I can think of is that in season 1 hibki going nuts was something that was built up subtly the entire show and it's a pretty shocking moment because of it

meanwhile in season 2 she gets her arm eaten off and goes nuts again but then that's all resolved like 10 minutes into the next episode and nobody really cares after that

No, not at all. That's pretty much standard, with people's opinions on G ranging from "it had it's ups and downs" to "it was bad, but not GX bad".

I really hated that scene, because of how trivial it made the fight. They could have made it a more permanent thing, and have her regrow it later, on Frontier, instead of just right away to demonstrate the relic cancer some more.

Entirely subjective. I agree, but still. I have a hard time really ranking the seasons on a whole for songs though. Each season had it's highs and lows, musically.
S1 had Zettou Ame no Habakiri, Kimi to Iu, and ZENBU, but then it also had Watashi to Iu, Flight Feathers, and Hidamari Memoria.
G had Ressou Gungnir, Rainbow Flower, and Waikyou Shensou Jing, but also had Okyou Shul Shagana, Dark Oblivion, and Kaban no Kakushigoto.
GX had Ginwan Airgetlamh, Genocide, and Little Miracle, but also had Trust Heart, Just Loving X-Edge, and Little Miracle.

And I'm certain someone's gonna come at me with some >implying reply, and that's fine, because musical taste is one of the most subjective things on the planet.

I also really enjoyed G because I really enjoyed Maria's character arc and progression, even if it wasn't handled great.
