Gunpla / Plamo General

***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!
Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.
Deadline: March 7

Just curious, but is anyone working on this groupbuild? /toy/'s been getting a few WIP Posts for their group build (Which is more of a Group paintscheme than a build) but I haven't really seen anyone here make an attempt at this yet
My old cheap-ass Tamiya files have smoothened out and rusted.
I need a new file (set), what are suggestions that won't quickly smooth and rust that won't destroy my wallet?
I still regret not picking up a bclub zaku I when I had the chance. I've gotten so much better at recasting resin parts now I could have made a whole army of them.
Hard to find these kits now.
if your gunpla is fading, you have serious problems on your hands. i have gunpla that have been in direct sunlight for close to a decade with pretty much no color fading at all. Bandai's plastic just doesnt do that, ive only even see it on knock-offs.
i display them in glass cabinets, and a small cup/shot glass of water inside the cabinet helps prevent dust, although i don't really understand the physics of it.
could you elaborate more? i haven't had this problem yet. the oldest kit i have so far is an MG F91 Harrison Martin from 2008, and no signs of fading so far.
>The models falling over if you sneeze in their general direction
action base for most balance-challenged kits. teh more sturdier ones won't fall even if i rattle my cabinet violently.
>hating on zaku
>hating on rx-78
Your gruntfaggotry is out of control.
I don't trust absolutely anything anywhere near sunlight after a few unfortunate incidents I encountered with other models.
Fair enough, what is the cheapest way to display Gunpla in a way I can counter dust, without buying another shitty Detolf.
Considering most of my kits are OYW grunts, a bigger problem is due to how light some of them are, I thought about using a minimal amount of blu-tack.
I can attest to this. Back when I first started collecting the first thing I ever bought was a bootleg Sayaka figure. It started to fade within a few months. Since then I wised up on how to spot bootlegs and all of my figure/ gunpla purchases haven't faded one bit.
It's not actually mine. I have a friend who's all about the Star Wars Legos and I convinced him to give the bandai kits a shot. He has a terrible attention span and has been chipping away at it very slowly. He's been using my tools hence it being in my room atm. To prove to prove I'm not as horrible as that pic makes me look here's a kit I hand painted kind of badly. I used some fucked up old ass primer with a pretty noticeable texture.
>Better then wing
Is that literally the go to defense when your show is shit? In any case Wing blows this show out of the water since shit actually happened in Wing through the first 17 episodes.
For future reference, you can actually wet sand primer with a super fine grit, which is what car modelers kind of do. If it's not enough you can re-spray and re-sand it to the fineness you want.
I had always assumed so. getting in on the bottom floor this time, Frontier kits are nigh impossible to get a hold of under MSRP and there doesn't seem to be reprints, I thank my lucky star I could find a Armored Messiah in Akihabara this summer
we do. stop being a whiny bitch about not having any friends besides that one that drew that super fucking gay fan art of you two. i literally can't understand how you still post here after that was posted.
That's the revive gouf, right? I don't really like the elephant nose, but I'm more worried about the leg dexterity being limited by the hoses overlapping the front skirt armor. It was pretty lousy on the proto-gouf kit.
>Gouf Custom 2.0 with frame and can actually hold a gatling shield
Take my money, Bandai.
With that being said, are there any new MG or RGs on the horizon? News on this stuff is hard as hell to find.
I'm airbrushing a mr hobby lacquer gloss coat and am getting frosting effects. Aside from the weather (today is a nice not too hot or cold day) what else can cause frosting? I have already washed the pieces with detergent and water prior to prime.
Is there much difference between the X1 and the Full Cloth besides the extras? i see more people say X1 is fine where as Full Cloth is a nightmare
Quanta is the next RG but we don't know beyond that (Which is typical of RG releases). MG has the Freedom coming up and at some point this year we are supposed to be getting Thunderbolt MG.
yeah i'm not sure how to handle that without it looking shit, something to weigh it down and look weathered?
>Harute is sold out already
>1/100 NGs will never get a restock
At least I was lucky enough to get a Kyrios.
SF91 kits are great, really busy and detailed designs but the colors seem to flow together well. they took the best parts of the F91 era then riced them up before everything got stripped back down to the basics for Victory. i still want to get a RXF-91 Kai to go with this thing at some point.
the cords are the worst, but look at that range of motion
Question to my fellow /m/exibros, CDMX anon and Beamknight87.
How do you guys display your models/protect them from dust? Do you have any display cases?
Any recommendations on where to buy one?
I have not bought a display case yet, but I try to dust them once in a month or so
I would actually appreciate if someone else could provide with some suggestions on this issue
travelling around near Toluca I've seen some 2nd hand stores that often sell those display cases they use in the telcel shops to display their shiny new smartphones for around 2.5k or 3k pesos
doesn't seem too bad, problem is I have no means to transport them when I see them
yes, I ditched the full cloth armor entirely after hearing how a fucking nightmare it was
base crossbone is really nice
Actually, searching again, this
http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-538866058-vitrina-exhibidor-o-aparador-de-acrilico-cristal-de-3mm-_JMlooks kind of promising.
Might as well ask how many thousand pesos I'd need for the shipping.
Why are Knights of Sidonia kits so expensive? The cheapest I've seen is 50 USD.
And why is there no Virgo kit from Gundam Wing?
Gunpla is suffering.
well I did one for my HG, using an old piece of cloth
>LE FAG Jinrai pre-orders opened yesterday
>it was already sold out as of last night
good thing I managed to order two
LE Architect preorders of course already closed ages ago.
Is it just me or does the V fin for the new mg freedom look a little weird
HGUC Jegan. I wanted it so bad but I'm bored of it already.
>But I don't need 500 zakus
Everyone needs tons of grunt units for maximum sillyness
Oh, a Zaku, an Origin Zaku, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
What could be more exciting
WHERE'S MY FUCKING GM? WHAT WAS THE LAST TIME WE GOT ANY FEDDIE GRUNT SUIT BANDAI?
Fuck yeah, I've had a Zaku I kitbash idea for a while now and was going to use the thunderbolt Zaku I as the base for it but now that I don't have to deal with that large backpack it will be much easier. I'm hyped as fuck.
Anyone bother counting how many of those damn things we've gotten through Origin? In fact, have we gotten anything from Origin's line that's not a Zaku, apart from the Mobile Worker and the MP Guntank?
Char Zaku 2, Hi Mobility Black Tri Stars Zaku 2, Zaku 1, Waffe, Proto Gouf, Proto Dom which is part Zaku, presumably Zanny which is part Zaku, Mobile Worker, Guntank, and we'll probably get a regular Origin Zaku 2 eventually.
So that's 8 Zakus and Zaku-likes.
Working on my posing. The base Destroy Mode Unicorn bothers me because of the rear skirts don't fit perfectly. I guess I'll glue them in someday.
Wait a fucking moment
The HG Gusion Rebake doesn't come with the halberd (checked on Dalong)
That's kinda bullshit
>use X-Acto knife to remove nubs
>white marking leftover
>use gritty sandpaper stick to remove nubs
>scratches the rest of the plastic, usually white marking leftover
>use fine-grit sandpaper stick to file down the last of a nub
Do I need actual sandpaper to get rid of nubs properly or what?
Well this is weird, I actually started getting that problem people get with the HGUC Sazabi's right leg. It started popping off really easily. I took it apart and re-adjusted the polycap so maybe it will hold better.
Hey guys, what would you guys recommend as the best gun for painting? I don't care about price, so I don't mind spending a pretty penny, obviously don't want to go buying some $4000 insanity machine though.
>Well this is weird, I actually started getting that problem people get with the HGUC Sazabi's right leg. It started popping off really easily. I took it apart and re-adjusted the polycap so maybe it will hold better.
UPDATE: So what I ended up doing was swapping the polycap for the same one on my Jegan and holy cow was that polycap stretched
the fuckout. It isn't, however, nearly as loose on my Jegan. I can't understand how that problem developed on the Sazabi. The poly-cap from the Jegan fit in snug while it was hard to put the same polycap from the Sazabi back into the socket. Strange.
So did anyone know about this or were you fucks holding out on me?
you probably wouldn't be so bored if you actually learn how to clean up nubs or do panel lines or top-coat, etc. but instead you ruin a jegan and post about it, like this general is ur personal diary. see thats why everyone hates you, everyone
I display them in my desktop since I recently started with the hobby I have only 3 kits on display, I dust them with make up brushes a tip I got from the /buyfag/ thread so you can look up into that.
As for displays, you can check vidrierias or stores that sell vitrinas for tiendas and stuff, they will be expensive but you can design your own, if you want something prebuild you can check idea interior or similar stores near where you are.
I should add, the HGUC Nu has quite the sabre.
Aaand if you're still debating the HGUC Nu, it doesn't tilt(as much) on an action base 2. It actually weighs the entire action base rod to the side the funnels are on, but it's alright!
So will we ever get Assault or Buster Master Grades?
Is the MG line really dead?
Will the shit posting ever stop?
The shit posting will stop when it stops getting attention, or the posts get deleted consistently.
As for the MG line, it's either going to have to take a risk, or just mindlessly rehash shit.
>Awesome job! Keep up the good work!!
Aaaand here is the HWS. You have to shrink the action base 2 to its shortest setting to keep it from tipping.
If there will be a MG V2AB that would probably on P-bandai.
Which pretty much means they think no one is buying MG kits and just throw like 75% MG kits of year on PB for those who'd buy it.
Also I think they are trying to replace MG with RE for cost down.
Anyone got this guy? I've been thinking about it for a while.
I'm gonna cancel my HG Kyrios order because I've read some bad things about it.
somebody comment on my posing. i wanna know how good or bad it is.
I have one of those, they're fun, but a lot of their joints aren't polycapped as Bandai's too cheap to develope an additional set for the few slim designs they got in their lineup.
The MkII's pose looks kinda forced
Try angling the feet/legs so they're not parallel to each other, and turn the arm around a bit so it's facing more towards the front instead of to the side
Does anyone have experience with Hobbyzones racks ? I need to sort my workplace chaos but i just cant find some sort of rack for Tamiya Paints. The fucking 23ml bottles have such a uncommon diameter that non of the stuff i found fits. I contacted Hobbyzone and they told me that their 36mm racks would fit but im not so sure.
How do you guys prepare your gunpla for a move?
I'm moving in a few months, and have begun packing up non-essentials to ease the move. My built gunpla are next on the list to be boxed up. I figure I would disassemble some of each kit, the more delicate pieces, and bag those up separately. Any other ideas?
The Zaku looks good, and the RX-78 is nice too although something feels a bit off, I can't really tell what it is
I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what the Gouf is doing though
i gave him a pose like this since he knows mobile suit martial arts.
You could try bending the knees a bit, as if he's trying to lower his center of mass
And as >>13835120 said the outstretched whip does look kind of weird with a kung fu fighter pose
Maybe straighten the whip arm so it looks like he's striking?
Angle the torso a bit if you can. Try putting it into a slight lean with the back leg supporting it.
is this better?
finished painting my jesta, can't decide if I should weather it or not.
>wanna ship everything from my HLJ private warehouse
>have a Gaplant, Jegan ECOAS, Zeek mk. III, UC Nemo, and a GP Build Custom Base (all HGUC except for the Base) that have been sitting for ~1 month now
>FedEx is the only option
Why must being poor be such suffering?
its fine im planning on replacing it anyways with the rg version or the gundam rising version when that comes out. i dont really like the look of it since it looks too much like a toy and the beam saber lengths are retarded..
You can jusy combine each into smaller shipments that qualify for less expensive shipping methods. Say, instead of throwing everything into one shipment, split everything into groups of two to four per shipment..
Everyone post their coolest poses go
Just look up pictures online and copy them. Box arts and manuals are good sources too.
The option on the right would be extremely powerful.
uplift of Guntank comes to life
Don't forget to add a Guncannon arm for max manhandling.
I hope you like upskirt shots.
this one is a classic although the hands are super shitty
I bought it cuz i really liked the design but the kit is very small and a bit plain, could use a lot more detail/color separation. otherwise its pretty solid and has decent atriculation
this one isn't too dynamic but i liked this shot I took when I was working on my ECOAS Jegan.
and here's my last favorite pose that I have a picture of.
This might be my coolest pose... because I haven't touched it in forever.
there are actually two different versions of the kit
seems like the parts are included in both though
it already looks lined but very subtly
the super pronounced thick black lines everywhere looks awful
First IBO HGs since Barbatos. Depending on how the Ryusei-go build goes, I may just hop on the Graze train. But which one should be built first?
MG RX-78 1.5 however is the best version in my opinion
Its proportions were perfect
After this all rx78-s had skinny legs
perfect grade has the same style just bigger
the PG has huge clown shoes though. Pic related is best proportions-wise, same sexy legs as the 1.5 but everything else has been improved (especially the arms) and full overhaul of the panel lines.
squats 4 days
also ASTRAYS ARE FUCKING UGLY AS SHIT HOLY FUCK
Fold your legs properly, dear. Squatting before a meal is rude.
fuck you old man I do what I want
Thanks. I only pegged them in from the source KR Baron SHF, no other modifications.
GN Archer's hips are so adorable.
I took it in a hurry im sorry anon ;_;
I love this shot so much, but I don't know why.
Try using blur to emphasis depth focus.
Took a bunch of shots when I completed it, but some of them I never posted.
This I've definitely posted before, but it looks cool, so.
Q: How do you make an Exia fly towards its dreams?
I was thinking about Gunpla and sales in the USA.
Why aren't the marketing people over at Bandai baffled at how many sales they are pulling in from a region where they currently do absolutely zero marketing and advertising
A: Give it a wing (it already has more than enough swords).
You...really are a big fan of Setsuna's suits huh?
exia is sexia but I must say I prefer astraea
It was one of the 2nd generation Celestial Being Gundams that led to the creation of Exia. The same way Sadalsuud led the way to Dynames, Abulhool led to Kyrios, and Plutone led to Nadleeh and by extension led to Virtue.
THIS IS SEXIA
Sorry for low quality pic, took this years ago with my then-cutting-edge potato.
i guess its still not enough for them to bother or care. i still get bummed when i go to my local model shop and see isle apon isle of trains, boats and planes but a small half shelf of gundams that were nearly sold out becept for some add ons and a HG.
atleast they sell the markers
SFW ROMANTIC SHINING HEART VERSION
I have never been able to replicate again the light dispersing like this, after this shot.
I finally got fed up with my perfect pack shoulder stickers. I found that using 91% isopropyl on a paper towel takes off the goo from the stickers quite well but I will need to keep doing it.
welp i'm going to try again tomorrow after work but i'm glad i atleast cut a hole in the back to let him keep the core fighter, i looked up some cape weathering ideas and it was mostly cosplay posts saying to use a cheese gratter or sandpaper. or even burning the edges. dont know if i'll try anything but they'd definitely look better then the shitty cuts i've got so far.
>SO THEY DON't LIKE HEELS, HUH? WE'LL REPLACE THE FEET WITH SPIDERS!!!
