The problem with Kudelia is that she basically has no outlet to do anything and this Dort-arc is the one place where she's shown as having any real initiative. Her out-of-the-blue prompt to go shopping for cleaning supplies was the first thing this girl has actually been able to do.

Now, it'd have been nice if she could've done a Dianna as Kihel Heim, where she started doing nurse shit and other manual labor to pull her weight, but the show really doesn't reflect a whole lot of that part of the world. Hell, Yamagi's healing boiled down to throwing him into a fucking vat of jello.

No? The closed face is a sniper mode giving the Gusion a longer range with a narrower field of vision. The open visor is the standard optical input. Not like the mechs are actual people with fleshy bits.

This episode was okay but is pulled down by the same laziness

There were still a lot of contrivances like the reporters just being in the right street to see Kudelia just as they decided they didn't like the military. Same with Nobliss just happens to have the power to effect their media and can do it in a instant, yet no one could get a picture of Kudelia out. The military knew exactly where the people would break into and were able to bugger up all their equipment just at the right time, it'd been awkward if the protest started in working hours when they were in those ms and figured it all out.
Then there is just straight up lazy like Gaileo was complaining about how they weren't doing anything right but then kills one of his own men without a seconds thought or Mika thinking Kudelia is so brave and amazing now cause she asked "hey what's going on?" Kudelia's development doesn't feel very good either as she had been spurred on to the same thing so many times it gives more a feeling of fucking finally. It was also more of a 180 than development, suddenly she is super stern and angry, doesn't feel like her at all and that speech she gave was a lot of nothing.

You can call these nitpicks but the problem is IBO has so lazy with all the details and there just isn't much else in terms of story or characters

The real issue is though that this doesn't feel like it is a smooth pay off to stuff, it feels more like a learner driver who has been jitering forward and back and then just suddenly slams their foot down. We've been so no where with the plot for ages it has made the plot seem uninteresting and underdeveloped, most of the characters don't even care they just want their money. This ends up feeling like a okay end to another pointless detour.

The battle was better than usual though, feels like they got a whole new director in for it. But it was really only reaching normal gundam fight level.

IBO isn't very smart with damage which is a problem for a melee focused show. Hits do as much as the plot requires no mater how it looks
>>
>>13825815
Kudelia's speech just pissed me off since its the usual anime emotional bullshit. "Oh I hope I can touch you with my words. I have the truth!!!" How is this going to change anything? Ghallerhorn is basically a more subtle version of the Titans, they're not going to get reformed or disbanded.

They should have based it off some real-life event, but there's literally no real-life case where someone stood up and said "hey that army of guys is bad" and the people who watched it on TV went "WOAH SHE'S RIGHT IF ONLY I'D KNOWN" and solved the problem.
>>
>>13825876
But she is there to tell the the TRUTH! about the lives they are living and know more about and just did a whole big protest and fight about...

Now EVERYONE! can stand up against them and win somehow and without some Blonde girl in some lolita outfit they couldn't have known to do that

The Gundams were the ones to end the Calamity War; Gjallarhorn's New World Order rose out of the ashes of that same conflict. As of the time depicted by the show, Gjallarhorn is the only group with the technology required to produce Ahab reactors and all Gundam frames utilize a dual-reactor setup.

I think it's safe to say that Gjallarhorn made them all.
>>
>>13825815

> Then there is just straight up lazy like Gaileo was complaining about how they weren't doing anything right but then kills one of his own men without a seconds thought or Mika thinking Kudelia is so brave and amazing now cause she asked "hey what's going on?"

The entire point of Gaelio is that he's kind of a hypocritical dick. He has no real conviction in what he's doing, he's just following McGillis because McGillis is his friend. He talks about corruption, but this same guy is willing to abuse his position multiple times to try and kill some kids because one of them embarrassed him once. Him spearing a comrade isn't lazy, it's just reinforcing that he has no strength of conviction. Mika didn't think Kudelia was awesome because she questioned what was going on, he thought she was awesome because when they were stuck in a situation where violence wasn't the answer and couldn't solve the problem she came up with the kind of non-violent solution he never could have because his experiences are so different to hers and he appears to be getting tired of it.
>>
>>13825867

> hits do as much as the plot requires

>>13825893

> the show is just a gimmick to sell toys

So the same as every mecha show ever? Wow, how very shocking.
>>
>>13825906
>abuse his position multiple times
The only time he sort of did was when he was trying to get closer, and that wasn't corruption that was being sneaky. He was also shown to feel very strongly about issues and even speak out against another officer on it

When has Mika ever been about idolizing peaceful way? The most he said is he didn't want to see the people losing like this, and his solution was to kill people
>>
>>13825893
Wait, wait, wait. I remember seeing this same stupid ass comment before, a couple of years ago. I fucking figured you out.

Snapfag is really Ruri. Or at least that Snapfag trip is.

Or I'm lethargic and paranoid.
>>
>>13825923

He went to the Dort colonies specifically to try and kill Mika and tried to order officers to allow him to go out despite standing orders so that he could do so. He took out his families personal heirloom/antiquity suit so he'd be able to one up him. He might talk fancy words, but actions speak louder and his actions essentially scream "I don't really believe in what I'm saying, I just say it because McGillis does and/or it makes me feel like a better man than those around me".

And Mika doesn't idolize peaceful ways. He doesn't need to idolize them to be amazed that someone who uses them can do more than he can though. He noticed several episodes ago that he might be starting to enjoy killing, he has had a case of the shakes after at least one battle that left him surprised because it's not a normal thing for him and this episode he felt frustrated that he couldn't do anything to get them out of the colony or help the workers and Kudelia's solution allowed him to do so and was something he could never have come up with. It's not amazing because "omg, so peaceful, I love peace now", it's amazing because she managed to find a way when he couldn't. He doesn't think she's amazing specifically because the means was peaceful, but because she was able to do so at all. The fact that it was peaceful is just a detail. If it's amazing to him, it's only because it's so different to his normal frame of reference and not because he idolizes peaceful solutions now.
>>
>>13825951
>He went to the Dort colonies
And that is fine. he didn't break any rules he just said it was training. That isn't corruption that is being sneaky. An officer welcome him on teh ship and was okay with him being used in that operation. Corruption was that guy at mars hiding a report cause he failed

> He took out his families personal heirloom/antiquity suit so he'd be able to one up him
Oh no he took out a powerful weapon, such corruption how evil he just has no morals

Explain how this hypocriticalness is a key part of his character we have seen a lot.

>can do more than he can though.
This is different from what you said be for where you specified that it was because she did it peacefully.

She hasn't done fucking anything at that point, and he did much more in a mobile suit. And she didn't stop anything either as it was the fleet arriving that stopped people fighting. And you are pulling what he meant there out of no where, show where he specifically liked for what you have made up
>>
>>13825910
>I-It's okay when IBO does it because every other mecha does it I j-just can't give you any examples
>>
What if McGillis is really still on Earth chilling and the guy in the bird mask is someone else? Imagine the sheer shitstorm it would cause.

This would be retarded as hell, yes, but it's IBO we're talking about, everyone has a long-lost brother in this fucking show. I wouldn't be surprised at this point.
>>
>>13825985

> Mobile Suit Gundam - sometimes a hit to the chest makes a mobile suit reactor go critical, sometimes it doesn't
> Gundam Wing - sometimes Leos blow up after one hit, sometimes they're as hardy as Gundams
> Turn-A Gundam - sometimes a punch to the head can damage the lead unit, sometimes it can take dozens of beams strong enough individually to cripple suits

I shouldn't even need to explain how pretty much every mecha show ever is primarily financed in the hopes of selling toys either. It's certainly the case with every Gundam show ever.
>>
I thought rebake was some joke name you guise were giving it.

I thought it was cool how it was actually useful in protecting mika this ep. Also, FACE OPEN. Too bad the design is kinda fucked up.

Also, is kudelia finally starting to snap out of being stupid, or is she just going to go full retard?

And does kimaris have anything else up its sleeve, I mean its used its leg boosters and shuriken thing already, now it just has to show off its booster pack thingy and die horribly.
>>
>>13826008
>sometimes a hit to the chest makes a mobile suit reactor go critical, sometimes it doesn't
That depends on if you hit a cockpit, an established rule

>Gundam Wing
A show that gets regularly shit on for bad fights

>Turn-A Gundam
The turn a can't just deflect beams with it's body unless it is doing a moonlight butterfly style thing like the Turn X did. The only time it deflected beams was with it's shield or twirling sabers and even then Harry needed to step in that one time it was a large beam
>>
>>13826013
> is kudelia finally starting to snap out of being stupid
She changed the outfit and put on a stern face, that means she's grown as a character. Expect her to be capable and smart from now on.
>>
>>13826008
>I shouldn't even need to explain
Read:
I'm making this up so I hope you won't ask me to explain
>>
>>13826014

The established is regarding reactors not cockpits and is purely an informed rule. It doesn't matter where On the chest the hit is or what did it, if the plot calls for it there's an explosion, if it doesn't, there isn't. And the Turn-A does actually take dozens of beam shots to the body with no protection of any kind shown to be in place, not even an i-field. Just one of those beams was also shown to be strong enough to disable Harry's SUMO. It happens about episode 45, when Gym hits it with the bloody siege attack and Loran panics and abandons the Turn-A.
>>
>>13826016
>Expect her to be capable and smart from now on.
She'll find a way to fuck up at least one more time.
>>
>>13826037
>The established is regarding reactors not cockpits
No it is a rule if you hit the cockpit the suit won't explode. I have no idea how you missed that

>Turn-A does actually take dozens of beam shots to the body
No it doesn't. Show a shot where it is directly hit with a beam with no shield or moonlight butterfly to protect it

Turn-A is pretty tough.jpg
167KB, 1366x768px
>>13826049

Okay, here it is getting hit by several at once then. It's from the end of episode 45. It has no shield at the time, it's obviously not using the moonlight butterfly since there's no sign of it's distinctive colors and it's not using an i-field, since you can see the shots directly hitting the armor and nothing is ever mentioned or implied in the scene to say he might be using it. And this goes on for several seconds with upwards of 40 or more shots hitting the Turn-A since Gym continues pumping out shots from all 8 or 9 of his guns at once. The same guns can take Harry's SUMO out of action in one hit a few episodes later, though in that case the shot is held for a second or so, rather than just fired off in a fraction of a second. It also destroys Sweatson Sutero's Mahiroo completely in just one shot, which isn't even held like in the case of Harry's SUMO.

As to the UC cockpit shots, we don't always see it hit a cockpit when the reactor fails to go off, so it's just as easy to say that it only goes off when it hits the reactor, not when it doesn't hit the cockpit.

I'm not sure why anyone is taking this as any kind of surprise, it's not like it's even limited to mecha: hits doing only as much damage as is dramatically appropriate is a staple of story telling across all forms of media. Goku can shrug off bullets without any preparation when he has no idea what a gun or bullets are in the first chapter of Dragonball, but can still be hurt by a puny laser gun when he's a full grown adult in Super. Luffy can tank hits from some of the strongest people around in One Piece, but still gets hurt by a physically weak Nami all the time because it's funny. Action movies are replete with people taking abuse from dozens of mooks and then getting knocked out by a single hit to the back of the head when the plot calls for it. And so on. That's how damage works in storys as a rule, not as an exception.
>>
>>13826025

Every Gundam series ever made exists primarily to shift toys. That's why the original Gundam was filled with things like the G-Bull and mobile armors, because the toy company that sponsored production demanded it. When Bandai bought Gundam that only became more obvious, and it was part of why Tomino was so frustrated during Victory's production. G Gundam was the first new Gundam show being made after Bandai took ownership to my knowledge and Imagawa has stated that they tasked him with making a tournament show that had lots of Gundams since they sell and that it only had as much plot as it did because he made it despite them. SEED had characters change sides to push mecha sales. 00 had new units inserted because the sponsors wanted to sell more toys. All of them were only made as a means to push new gunpla though.

Gundam isn't alone in that though. Every Macross show, every Super Sentai show, every Brave show, every Transfomers show and so on: they're all funded primarily as a means to shift toys (and music in the case of Macross). Takahashi has said in interviews that he doesn't care about mecha at all and only uses it in his shows as a way to get sponsors.

If you think otherwise though, why don't you find some proof of mecha shows that aren't primarily funded by toy sponsership. Not your personal opinion that they aren't, or shows that didn't have many toys made for them because of perceived lack of interest or something: shows that definitely weren't made with toys in mind. I doubt there are many.

>>
The QUALITY is the least of the problem.
The real issue is whoever is directing and working on the storyboards. They aren't putting the tiniest effort to make conversations interesting. Even though this is an anime with a lot of talking, the talking sequences are a fucking chore and bore to death. It is like the characters only have the mouth, all the other pieces of the bodies don't exist. So much for body language.

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi and Hai to Gensou no Grimgar blow this Gundam to pieces in terms of making interesting the talking sequences.
>>
>>13826414
I have more of an issue with the backgrounds. Every city just looks like a boring modern day city, at best you will see some space in a background. Not even the Mafia place had a unique blend of styles it just looked like a city, the only different bit being the one random place with a a Japanese interior

The only bit where it feels like a little thought was put in was the ship interiors. Even then they are very dull and mainly consist of huge blocks of a colour, the only one really working is the orphans shit looks rusty so shows it is some old uneasy rust bucket (which they can crash into other ships with no damage m=being done but just ignore that).

I think the clothing design budget all went to kudelia though, to keeps girls interested

It's because there is a lack of anything to tell. The characters are so flat they just don't have anything going on under the surface, if they could have done they just straight up say it. Instead of us just seeing that Mika's hand is shaking they have to make Kudelia exclaim it is happening.

Really this whole problem is just because of how dull the material is. The story is bare bones so the characters and dialogue are flat. The animators can't do shit with the characters because of this and are likely less interested in putting real effort in

And the little kids are frail and fucking idiots as well with the black guy shouting at them a few time

Seeing her help out more and learn more over time would be a much better arc. Have her be the one to fuck up the Barbatos fuel early on which would more justify her whining. Then if she still has resolve to help it makes her more likeable especially if we see improvement over time. If now she had progressed to a semi competent mechanic and we had seen her game confidence through that (as well as better social skills with the kids) it would not only make her infinitely more interesting, it would make Fumitan stopping the assassination make sense as Kudelia would not be the same person any more.

That's what you meant to do with a story, have actions that lead to growth. Saying well she is a frail girl doesn't change that, it just makes teh growth stand out more

Are Gjallarhorn really that bad so far the only real problem we see with any of the upset population is that they are poor and they blame Earth/Gjallarhorn for that.

The worst acts they have done is attack a pmc base and a form of entrapment on a group of people intending to carry out violence.

The inability for them to effectively hold peaceful negotiations through strikes or other forms of civil disobedience implies what they produce is not of large value anyways or that there was a large pool of labor able to replace them.

Essentially all the union members were engaging in a class warfare conflict trying to force concessions through armed threats.
>>
>>13826521
About half the shows you listed are better produced than IBO though.
>>
>>13826696
Entrapment is kinda a super dick move regardless.

It shows that the Hornblowers are not concerned with any justice other than their own. Narratives will be pushed to force the image that they're the good guys no matter what, with every conflict a stage show to make dissidents out to be terrorists.

It's actually nice to see that the news team wants to cover the whole fiasco with a semblance of neutrality rather than just being yet another batch of dickass grownups.

Its morally wrong and a bad way of doing things.

However I don't think the dock workers had a valid reason for arming themselves. They wanted a conflict and they got it.

Its not like they were massacring unarmed civilians.

I just don't think of them as victims like the show wants them to be.

Heck I went to Accra for a month and most people are squatters and a small part of the population are millionaires who don't pay taxes. They only really care about government officials pretty much stealing funds and the rolling blackouts.

Wasn't the entire point of Savarin's character (Biscuit's brother) that Gjallarhorn were basically pushing the dock workers to rebel martially so they'd have a reason to put them down and thus could continue to justify their own existence as necessary to stop violent revolts? Cause I'm pretty sure it was.

Savarin had spent months, possibly years, trying to get negotiations going with Gjallarhorn and being rejected each time because Gjallarhorn aren't actually interested in negotiating, so he figured (or maybe they told him) that if he got Kudelia they'd finally relent and open negotiations. Gjallarhorn are basically just fostering a repeating cycle though. They treat the dock workers like shit for a few decades, then after a while they get fed up and want some better treatment and when that happens they refuse negotiations so that the workers are eventually pushed to violence since peaceful methods are rejected, and when they rebel Gjallarhorn puts them down and a load of new workers are shipped in and work for tuppence because they've just seen what happens to uppity ones. It has the additional benefit of justifying Gjallarhorn's existence to the power blocs, since they push themselves as the only ones capable of keeping the workers in line.

Gaelio's lines on the bridge regarding this being how that branch of Gjallarhorn do things implies that it's widely practiced and known, and that this is the kind of corruption McGillish dislikes. The entire Arianrhod fleet, or at least it's upper management appears to be in on this one for instance. As opposed to the case on Mars with Coral, who just wanted to murder one teenage girl (and the company protecting her) for the sake of promotion.
>>
>>13826858

greco still had occasional quality, every show does. also thats studio 1. Studio 3 shows have always had their fair share of quality but its not like they can't animate a good fight scene though. The problem is that hasnt really been any moments in IBO where the animation has really stood out outside of maybe the first 2 episodes. It hasnt really given itself many places for it to show off in the first place.
>>

It was setting an example to stop future rebels.

>trying to get negotiations going with Gjallarhorn and being rejected each time because Gjallarhorn aren't actually interested in negotiating,

In the subs it said he was negotiating with the company. Was Gjallarhorn ever said to control anything directly?
>>
>>13827730
>The problem is that hasnt really been any moments in IBO where the animation has really stood out outside of maybe the first 2 episodes
While the seer amount of quality is an issue, this is also a big problem. People over look quality if the show is good elsewhere, OPM pretty much ran on not doing much with some scenes and then going all out on others. When it has looked better it has mostly been still shots with nice framing not actual animation
>>
>>13827747

It wasn't just setting an example for future rebels though, because it's not the first time Gjallarhorn has done it. Gaelio's discussion with Ein aboard the carrier this episode indicates it's the normal method of operation for many in Gjallarhorn and has been with some time. They do this regularly. They also definitely directly controlled stuff, because even last episode you could see the head of the company worrying about the protests and being told to just wait by Gjallarhorn folks and that they'd kill the protesters soon enough.

>They also definitely directly controlled stuff, because even last episode you could see the head of the company worrying about the protests and being told to just wait by Gjallarhorn folks and that they'd kill the protesters soon enough.

The company could have negotiated if it had wanted to a long time ago. The reason they wanted to be armed was so that the local law enforcement couldn't do anything and the union could force negotiations.
>>
>>13827730

I can't hate IBO it isn't bad but it isn't amazing.
>>
>>13829558
But it is bad. Since they went into space (and even a tiny bit before that) the show has been bad. Very few fights, poor animation (2-3 QUALITY episodes of talking between each ultra-QUALITY fight), poor battle choreography (melee + everything in space was probably not the best idea), nearly everything about Kudelia, the pants-on-head retarded conveniences, the slowest, dullest, and most contrived plot ever, the fact that even with really shitty shoes I could hate the characters but IBO doesn't give them enough personality to emotionally react to, the lost potential (sick battles without instakill beams, Mika and Orga's relationship, Orga struggling with leadership, Mars not being a red flag for "shit anime" for once, Barbatos swapping parts constantly, Mika growing out of being Orga's lapdog, Kudelia doing something useful or growing as a person or changing from her experiences, mobile workers being used more than twice, a grimdark plot about child soldiers instead of harem ship vs Saturday morning pig and clown villain and dumb "lel I'm a child soldier and can't stop thinking/talking about dem tiddies" humor, an actual love triangle or meaningful romance instead of the light novel-tier humor and inaction and d-d-d-d-d-doushio shit from Kudelia, and finally the universe that has the Calamity War, Gjallerhorn, and Earth sphere shenanigans is completely forgotten in favor of Gjallerhorn = Bad and MARTYR KUDELIA BUT MAYBE DON'T). What DO we have from this series? Hilarious memes about brothers out of the blue or never getting to Earth or that one fuck who keeps posting Purge Space Vermin hoping at least one other person finds it funny? Orphans Namida? The show is soulless and apathetic. It has nothing to offer. At least Try I could bitch about how much I hated it but IBO manages to be worse simply by being nothing. Okada and Nagai are both hacks and have no idea how to run a story or an animation project.
>>
>>13829702
And to add to those lost plot points:
Spinelink to Barbatos turns out to be nothing
Human Debris turns out to be nothing, treaties basically the same as normies
Anyone's back story besides Atra's and that should have been baseline minimum for quality, instead turns out to be highest
>>
>>13829710

his relationship with everyone plays out the same way of bland caring
the kiss was contrived to get people talking over the break
he has only ever talked about his goal once and it is so separated from everything it barely feels relevant
he had had at best a sliver of development which is the most basic maybe killing is wrong

You know, one thing that surprises me in this fight: Why was it a two-on-two fight? Doesn't Viking-name-I-can't-pronounce have a significant numerical advantage?

I mean, if I was going to take on one ship, I would want at least three-to-one odds. No matter how good these dangerous mercenaries I keep running into are, they're going to have a lot of trouble if I sic like ten men on them and then head out with my subordinate in my Gundam Frame that has the specialty of "GOING FAST."
>>
>>13830032
Edged weapons before had to penetrate the nano laminate in a clean swing, all the chainsaw has to do is bite into it and you've already started to chew through the armor.

Essentially it's the HEAT round to a sword's KE penetrator or a hammer's HESH.
>>
>>13830032

I thought it's like a Jaws of Life. Clamp it onto someone, and it traps him while the chainsaw rips him apart. Technically, it's a better design that the chainsword.

So far, we've seen that shots just bounce off most machines, and sustained physical damage is the best way to kill them. This is basically an industrial cutter.

>VOTOMS

It is designed after real cameras. At least it's workable in principle switchign lens over the main sensor

name a real life camera that does that, as far as I know only an optical microscope is comparable and that's optical

>At least it's workable in principle switchign lens over the main sensor
it's an electronic sensor system, the triple eye IS the sensor system, there isn't another sensor behind it that changes ability when the thing rotates. when the triple eye moves around, you can see that there's nothing behind it. the spinning is just to move the currently used sensor to the top to keep the sensor high up and the point of view consistent.

it's not like the pilot is looking through an optical scope, he has digital display like VR goggles that need to be plugged into the AT's computer system to see the AT's sensor/optical processing system output

Mika's whole, your name is going to disappear thing is very stupid. If he was expanded on as a character it may make sense but now it just is really bad. He's really bad. His personality in relation to everybody on the show is jarring. He and Orga are supposed to be best friends since childhood who seemingly went through the same shit but Mika seems emotionally dead while Orga has a ton of life. So far Mika has no reason to act the way he does especially when you have all the other orphans on the show that are well adjusted. Heero and Setsuna have a reason for acting the way they do. Mika seems to act the way he does because they felt it would be cool.
>>
>>13833211

You must be young. There was a time when everything was optical.

>it's an electronic sensor system, the triple eye IS the sensor system,

You could have only one main CCD and the other three lens/filters rotate over it, as with the camera. I am not saying it's a sensible design, but in principle it works. They could chalk it up as cost-saving on electronics or something.
>>
>>13833359
>childhood who seemingly went through the same shit but Mika seems emotionally dead while Orga has a ton of life

because orga made mika pull the trigger, the only time we see mika show emotion is when his loved ones are hurt.
>>
>>13833169
Well considering twin eyes are likely more complex in the targeting optics department, I'd assume that in ranged mode they're withdrawn to protect the twin eye optics from both the usual wear and tear as well as from harm in ranged combat where getting shot in the face has a legitimate chance of happening.

I'm not putting it to words all that well but the twin eyes are like a tank commander looking out of the hatch. It's dangerous as fuck because all it takes is one marksman in the right place at the right time to fuck up the tank crew's local chain of command, but it offers an unparalleled amount of visibility and awareness such that it's still a legitimate option to keep in mind.
