He's great. I honestly wish more protagonists were like him. Io is actually a very complex character, but he hides it beneath bravado. Also, he can back that shit up with piloting skills, while Darryl is a Newtype.
Hey, so Io was the one who cut off Darryl's arm? That's great, actually. The one thing I didn't like about the manga was that Darryl lost his arm in an unrelated incident (When the ship was shelled, I think?)
Having Io be the one to hack it off makes for a more condensed story.
I also like that Io gets saved by the lightning bolt, the way Darryl is also saved later. Everyone gets one!
Most people here are Federation lap dogs, they could have Federation main character who eats kittens and the people here would find a way to defend it.
He died in the Manga too, they just didn't make his death that elaborate
I've come here to tell you
One of your wishes does come true
I love him. I can forgive his cockiness due to the fact that Zeon forces destroyed his home and wiped out the population with no quarter or concern for civilian lives. It's not surprising he treats massacring Zeon Soldiers like a sport, since they treated the defenseless people of Moore very much the same way.
That's not to say I don't like Darryl; I just find him less interesting.
Sean survives and ends working as scavenger/bodyguard on earth, in the manga.
Wait I didnt watch this but what the fuck, why does that gundam have tech not even zeta had. Its fucking way too fast.
Also I thought this anime was about the OTHER char, you know the one who was about as fast as char but not and had a red zaku also.
I dont know much about him, only by video games like g-gen and such. did look up a wiki a while back though.
In the manga Io become a very likable character to follow. Yes, he's an ass, but complex and very human one, not the kind of character in which you can insert self.
Darryl is the classic Shone bland character for teenagers, with self sacrifice spirit.
I personally find a bit disturbing how the manga try to show Darryl morally superior and kinded heart, with the story that begins with him kill enemy soldiers almost smug.
if he was a rookie soldier, I could understand the bitterness, but at the beginning of the story is already a fucking reputed killer.
>Its fucking way too fast.
That's just the high quality animation and battle choreography.
V Gundam is older animation under a different staff, but doesn't Char's Zaku II from Origin ep 1 intro is faster than the Victory Gundam, or that Sinanju outperforms the V2.
I would have loved to see Victory Gundam era OVA with Thunderbolt's budget and choreographer.
Shit would be crazy tense, especially with all the techniques involving splitting/combining they can do.
I just finished up reading Thunderbolt. Have to say while and enjoy it the story kinda drags after a while
It's fine that the story and characters are simple (in fact to many stories shouldn't try to force all other shit when it isn't needed) but when that goes on for a long while stuff sort of has to develop a bit more. It feels very back and fourth
Scratched up FA Gundam looked pretty sick
so, do you guys like when they add or make minor changes from manga to ova adaptations? I kinda enjoy it especially if the fans get some sort of input like in unicorn with possible remnants suits. Its not like a book to movie though.where allot more detail is lost.
>I personally find a bit disturbing how the manga try to show Darryl morally superior and kinded heart, with the story that begins with him kill enemy soldiers almost smug.
I find it disturbing how /m/ adores Io despite him openly enjoying torturing disabled soldiers to free-form jazz music and abusing his superior officer in an entirely selfish misogynistic relationship.
Both men are flawed characters obsessing over the other in the end to engross you in this rivalry.
What comrades? You mean the one mechanic who gave him a drink or the female captain he's abusing in secret?
Io even belittles his wing mates as he sorties, he doesn't give a fuck.
>Muh glorious imperial Japan.
>belittling the men that just killed a decent number of his comrades from the comfortable safety (and I mean literally comfortable, Darryl had his gimp legs up on his monitor, for fuck sake) of their sniping positions
In fairness, it's not like he gave a shit.
Whether or not he cares about them is irrelevant; you're insinuating that Io has any reason to treat the sniper team with any respect or dignity given their tactics and the fact that they took plenty of his own down.
>they're given such shit designs.
Technically it's true due to logistics. The GMs and Gundams are near-twins with parts that can probably be traded in and out with minimal effort, since they're all descendants of the same Federation V project. You pilot one, you've essentially piloted them all.
Conversely, Zeon MS are all private contractor bids, each with their own technology and parts (Zeonic, Zimmad, MiP, etc.) and entire model lines built for specific purposes (like the Gouf being a near-completely close-combat MS). It wasn't until the final stages of the war that Zeon gets its shit together and demands the contractors stick to the United Mainenance Plan to simplify the logistical train and so that pilots don't get a different operating system each time they pilot a new machine..
Liking Zeon designs is one thing; I love them myself...but hating GMs is the telltale sign of a shit taste-having pleb.
don't know but the author's canon in ch43.5 is that he survived in a escape pod and ends up working as a scavenger's bodyguard on earth.
might ave even got him self a former feddie pilot girlfriend.
>tech not even zeta had
I thought that too but its not like hard points is a foreign concept
the Ball CLEARLY has room for it in those holes that arent thrusters
still if this gundam moves like this the problem is fucking F91 should move at something visually similar to 1/4th the speed of light
>YO: I’m humbled [laugh]. I think in that sense Thunderbolt started off in a very fortunate position. Just as the lack of attention given the first Gundam TV series allowed it some freedom, my Gundam series is on a unique platform with Shogakukan’s Superior, so it’s not as tied down. In the beginning, I told them that I wanted to be able to work freely, even if that meant it wasn’t part of the Gundam canon, and they told me I could do what I want. However, that makes it difficult to adapt into anime and Gundam models... I suppose [laugh].
CS: So it wasn’t that they approached you and said, “Do it at this point in the Universal Century calendar.”
>YO: It’s a bit off from the so-called “correct history,” but I did that on purpose [laugh]. I started off on the sidelines without much attention, which actually allowed some freedom as I wrote and I didn’t have to defend myself, so I decided to change what I wanted, and I think it was good that I could start that way. Being in that position is similar to how it was for the first Gundam, so I’ve been happy with it.
gundam needs more of this, it's way more interesting when it's not jammed into the real UC timeline
also I have no idea how people thought it was the same timeline when every machine is totally different than the true UC versions yet has exactly the same code numbers. Those nips change code numbers when they paint a stripe on or whatever.
>Interviews just say that the author has the freedom to do what he wants and can take artistic liberties.
No where does it say that the war goes on into 0080. It officially ends with the armistice after the Battle of A Bao A Qu. There are only remnants left who refuse to stop fighting, just like Delaz's group from 0083. They're not even the main antagonist of the 2nd part.
Maybe you should actually read the manga instead of parroting bullshit you read on /m/ months ago. I bet you also think that the Zeongs were mass produced
In other words, it's an AU, but based on UC. That's not a bad idea actually. It takes the Godzilla 2000 approach. In that it's based off the old source material (In this case One Year War), but does not try to fit in with everything else. It goes off and does its own thing)
>We will never get a UC slice-of-life that slowly morphs into a political thriller that helps to explain some of the shitty decisions the Federation made over the course of early UC.
I hope they get to the part with the Royal Guard Zakus, Gelgoogs, Assault Guntanks, and Gundamheads
You can adore somebody for being utterly fucking ridiculous. I adore Dio Brando for being so utterly cartoonishly evil, I can like Io
>can change his appearance a bit if he wants
No way, that thing really does look just way too fucking fast, like how fucking fast do you want these battles to be? fucking dbz? Thats what it looks like. Its not like i'm watching this but they could at least make sense.
Ok so major changes are:
-Fight at the start was new
-Parts of chapter 5 are used in this episode
-Chapter 6 is almost completely omitted, I think only his addicted line made it through which makes Io seem like a worse person than he actually is.
-The Sniper battle between chapter 7-9 has many alterations, notably Shawn dying, Io being way more blood thirsty, and Daryl losing an arm in the battle (he originally threw the cracker before Io got near him, getting away unscathed).
-The fleet battle in chapter 10 happens at the same time as the sniper battle in the anime. Notable alterations are the Federation steamrolling Zeon in this version (draw in the manga), omitting a few cool sequences, and Daryl not losing an arm while staying in a capsule (the capsule area is still hit in the anime, however).
-Chapter 11 had minor alterations, but nothing of note.
-Chapter 12 had a chunk of it happen at the start of the episode (Io's fathers suicide), the rest hasn't happened yet.
-Chapter 13 didn't have Daryl's promotion party, an cut straight to his amputation sequence (it was less solemn in the manga), and the launch sequence for the Psyco Zaku with a few bits omitted.
-I think the amputation sequence was new?
Er, Zeon was.
People tend to not see past the more overt Nazi symbolism and forget that, at least in First Gundam and The Origin, that the Principality of Zeon was a good mix of Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany.
Then again, thanks to Izubuchi, most dudes think that they're just space Nazis.
Mk-II flew past the entire distance of a colony while only accelerating for a matter of seconds, turned on a dime, and flew back over the span of three seconds or so, and that suit is considered only marginally faster than the highest-tier OYW suits, thruster output and weight-wise. This isn't new animation either; this is Zeta.
What Full Armor TB Sector Gundam did was just make a lot of turns while already at a decent speed (keep in mind, you only slow down in space if you decelerate in the opposite direction, changing direction doesn't do much.) You could do that shit in the vanilla RX-78-2 if really necessary. The issue is you also can't shoot anything because you're moving at a rate where the targeting computer can't compensate for movement at that speed, so nobody really does unless they're pulling evasive maneuvers against an enemy that can snipe them (like Io was.)
First, it's not a theory. Zeon Zum Deikun was a philosopher and his ideas were certainly inspiring and shareable, but then the Zabi comes and everything ended in shit. The "noble" cause that the soldiers follow faithfully was just a facade to mask the hunger for power, nothing more, nothing less.
>space Arianism made up by a mad guy
>wah we have to pay taxes to people that built where we live
>lets gas other spacenoids to prove we are right
>lets drop our homes that the earth built for us and we didn't want to pay for on earth killing millions
Say you're going to work and there's bad traffic every day. So you invent a car that hovers, and let a bunch of other people use them so A: easier life for them and B: less congestion for people who stay on the road. Then these people decide they don't like that they still have to pay road tax, claim ownership of the car and tell you to stick it. You tell them that no, the car isn't theirs and they're just using it, and they have to pay the same taxes as everyone else. So they crash the car into your house and kill your family.
Seems perfectly reasonable when you put it like that.
So... this is a...
I know there have been several designs over the top in some comics and novels, but now I have truly the impression that a 00 Gundam Raiser could easily be accepted as UC Gundam if it had been created for a show in Universal Century.
You're half-right, if it makes a 90 degree turn it has to come to a halt in the forward direction entirely, so it will be slowing down a lot, but if you fired thrusters in both directions it would appear to not really slow down.
The Atlas is one of my all-time favourite Gundam designs. I wholly agree that it's out of place in UC though, I feel like the idea of having extreme emphasis on joint flexibility would make for a good AU groundpoint. Fuck me if I know what conditions would make that the ideal design though.
damn he looks so badass its shame wasting a character like him
Forgot to mention that for those who think they won't have time to animate everything, a good chunk of chapters 13-27 is just straight up fighting, so it probably will fit in the 2 remaining episodes.
It's a bit disappointing episodes have 19 minute run times. With 5-10 they could almost do a perfect adaptation of those early chapters.
Could someone explain to me why she puts a gun to her head? Is she afraid of being taken by some unsavory types?
I've been reading the manga and got to the Desert Rat chapters. Is the Federation pilot suppose to be
the Guncannon pilot from chapter 17?I know she's wearing a helmet, but aside from her tits, she kind of looks the same.
Original GM's head is pretty dopey looking, but if we remove it...
Yes and no. What we see as animated, sunrise is inserting it into the original gundam lore to make it fit. For example the guntank and its history are different in the Origin Manga compared to the original MSG. To reconcile that, in The Origin animation, the guntank is referred to as the "early type" to differentiate it from the classic guntank yet both design exist now. Similarly, for TB sunrise cut out all the parts that may interfere with the original series. In TB the thunderbolt versions of zakus and gms replace what we see in the tv series. For the anime, they are just variants those existng units.
That analogy is incredibly retarded and is in no way representative of the relationship between Side 3 and the Federation.
Like, not even fucking close, jesus christ.
That rule is meant to apply only to individual mobile suits and MSVs, not actual stories.
And you, what in the buttfuck are you talking about?
Probably because all GMs save for maybe the RGM-79[G] are essentially the same suit with swapped parts.
>And you, what in the buttfuck are you talking about?
I think he means that despite the whole 'animation equals canon' policy, F91 and V, two animated products, have received so little attention in the years since their release that they've virtually been forgotten about.
'No longer canon' is a touch hyperbolic.
Well, what are you expecting to see? Every animated feature produced since then has taken place before those entries, chronologically save for maybe G-Reco which, if I'm not mistaken, makes use of some tech from Victory.
No one is going to sub it, we're waiting for Crunchyroll or Daisuki or some other official service to release it with subtitles. Only then will you see different groups "subbing it", and by subbing I mean slightly altering their script (more often than not not altering it at all) and changing the font around.
It's hilarious how /m/, a site about technology and robots, is the most techno-illiterate and ignorant board on this site.
>umm hello, first post here, but are there any good youtube channels where i can watch Gundam animes in HD? My parents dont let me torrent >.<
It's because the GM is essentially a stripped-down Gundam for mass production purposes, and the design reflects that. In comparison, Zeek suits look like a completed design, although the Zaku I looks somewhat like a stripped-down Zaku Ii (but not to the same extent as a regular GM and the RX-78.
not even sure what your suggesting, but space colonies (artificial ones) rebelling against their homeworld is an asinine plot anyway. There IS NO way a space colony could ever be self sufficient, it would always require resource flow from earth in order to survive. Colony on another planet yeah sure, but not an artificial space colony.
So with the way people here where talking about this I was expecting EDGY MATURE ANIME.
But I just got a nice looking vertical slice of the war the fedy ace is a tad of a dick and the zeek is a tad arrogant.
So does it just stay as a story about two guys doing their jobs?
And getting fucked over by their respective factions. Io is given the Gundam and sent out on suicide missions so that he can die as a glorious hero for the Moore Brotherhood while Daryl is used as a labrat after losing his legs in service of Zeon and eventually his arms as well.
Its not blocked its available on hulu for fucks sake along with a bunch of streaming sites. Anything thats on youtube isn't allowed to be on network tv. We know from the fact that they are giving it a u.s. Dub means they are intending to have it on network tv.
Because that got official (badly timed) subtitles.
Like the ones he's saying people are waiting for here.
These days, if it's Gundam, there's a pretty safe bet there will be official subtitles coming shortly, so most people are just going to opt to wait for those and then retool from there so the work's half done.
The Manga itself is Alternate UC. However, the animation has made a number of changes to make it fit within the UC timeline, therefore it's not alternate.
The opening pages in the manga replaced all the mechs with the dust covered arm joint and fancy pants propellant tanks used in Thunderbolt. Even char's Zaku had it.
It was officially subbed
With bad timing
Then people took that script
retimed it, maybe an edit here or there, font change
and released it under their own name
That is fansubbing in 2016
you know it's just torture and humiliation by bored, horny, vengeful people
Ok I did this. I just made up subtitles. Pic related.
Not jokesubs. I used the translated manga as a source. I just made up all the battle scene yelling, etc. Let me know what you think.
>Io is given the Gundam and sent out on suicide missions so that he can die as a glorious hero for the Moore Brotherhood
I thought this was more or less what he wanted, with the exception of being a glorious hero.
Dude just wants to be on the battlefield.
He's an adrenaline junkie with an addiction to combat, but that doesn't mean that he intends to die. The Moore Brotherhood wants him dead because he's the son of the man in charge of the old regime of Side 4 and martyring him would give the Brotherhood leaders more power in the eventual post war period
let him. Good to know that man has his priorities straight
This is a huge spoiler for those that haven't read the manga. Why in the world do people keep giving Io so much shit over
getting his Gundam destroyed, when the people who give him shit also know that the unit that beat him also took out an entire fleet by itself, and Io manage to tie with it despite that?
Because the Gundam is supposed to be invincible. No, it's not fair to Io. But he's being upheld as MU'S GREATEST HERO EVER, so he's held to incredible standards. (Also, the Gundam got captured.)
I say that he actually won the fight. If not for the lightning bolt, Io would have killed Daryl stone dead.
Welp, /m/ didn't care about my made up subtitles, but somehow South Korea did. They took off the "Bullshit made up subs" part and just put "ENG SUBS" and the Koreans are downloading it like mad. I just uploaded it last night around 8 or 9 hours ago and there's already over 100 seeds.
Do most people in South Korea speak/read English as a second language? That's the only reason I can think of why they're downloading this so much.
I'm not actually sure if that's in the manga. Pardon me if I'm wrong, because I can't check right now. But if the same thing happened for Io, it's a lot more fair: Everyone gets one serving of plot armor.
But yeah, Io is unfairly getting a lot of shit for what happened. Technically, the fight was a draw: If the Federation had shown up first, Io would've won AND they'd have captured the Psycho Zaku. The result was completely out of his hands - In fact, it could have been either of them.
It's funny in that I don't really understand WHY they're so focused on the Psycho Zaku. Zeon has a captured Gundam; The Federation already has the Psycommu, as they have captured
Zeong Units 2 and 3.
Like, the P Reuse Device is likely one step below the Psycommu, and it comes at a permanently crippling price.
>That Scum who rally their fighting forces to defend your home when your neighbor decide to attack it.
>That Scum who try their best to protect its people
>That Scum who were talk down and criticized because they failed to stop a maniac drop colony on Earth even though they tried to stop it.
>That Scum who gave their life to push an asteroid just to save your goddamn ass
>That Scum who you said to get lost came in with soldier to protect you home again from psychotic killer using flower MS
>That Scum who have the chance to bow down and surrender to their foes but instead keep on fighting for the sake of humanity.
The Feds have done so much protecting Earth and all it gets was "muh zeon idealogies better" and even that they still protect your goddamn ass fro 200 fucking years.
Pretty viciously beaten on top of that.
One thing I'll give TB so far, it's interesting that the super gamebreaking unit this time out isn't a Gundam, but the Psycho Zaku that apparently everyone and their mother is ready to murder Hell and creation to possess. Which is getting a little silly in terms of how people are now on the verge of going to war for this one suit's info, but hey.
It's probably because you could feasibly turn just about anyone into a P. Reuse Device user, while with Psycommu you gotta wait for some Newtypes to pop up.
I'm wondering how many volumes until we get a Psycommu + P. Reuse Device monstrosity.
Check out Naruyoshi Kikuchi if you like the style of free jazz in Thunderbolt
Obviously not all the songs are as fast paced
The manga explicitly references Giant Steps as what Io and Bianca listen to
>Reading though Volume 5 finally
>The whole Desert thing going on with the different groups of post war scavengers
This is neat, wish we could get more things like this Gundam or otherwise. Also I really like this Gouf.
Reminds me of Vultures from Gundam X. Loved that side of the show.
YOu know what I want? An AW Gundam X about normal scavengers doing mad max things in the ruins of the world in the first few years post war, well everything is still super fucked from the dozens of colony drops.
The Feds do nothing but keep their corporate masters in power. I'm happy that Thunderbolt finally depicts the Feddies as the true monsters that they are, instead of this secret organization bullshit which excuses the Feddies from being labeled the true villains of the franchise.
>as the true monsters they are
Ironically, Zeon's the side being seen as using its own people as guinea pigs.
Let's not forget that Daryl lost his remaining arm not by choice, but because the higher ups wanted to just take 'em all so he could be set up for the Reuse P.
An Earthnoid coward like you will never understand something as pure as devotion. No, you just sit around and wait for some newtype kid to come out of nowhere and save your comfy life style.
Is it really devotion if he never effectively gave his consent and openly admits he's prettymuch only still there because otherwise Zeon repossesses his prosthetics?
Sounds less like devotion, more passive aggressive indentured servitude.
They didn't finish sending in the Zakus before dropping ground infantry to hold the area.
Which makes no goddamn sense, considering even pre-ground-type-revision Zakus (even Magellas, early-OYW) are murder upon anything that's not another mobile suit or a Big Tray.
Generally speaking, Zeonic planetary invasions have been traditionally portrayed as one big diarrhea landing with shit landing all over the goddamn place. Its not out of the realm of possibility for paratroopers to miss their landing zones or for captains or commanders to enter the LZ earlier than planned.
This confused the fuck out of me too. I just binged all 6 volumes like 10 minutes ago all at once so no way in hell was I senile.
But then again the manga kept trying to act as if the girlfriends were dead and both are alive.
She may have lived this time, but I wonder who Io will choose between when he's gotta save either her or Claudia at the Shaolin temple? I have my doubts Io will get a successful harem even though polygamy is clearly thriving on Earth.
Just stumbled upon this season. I'd only watched OO (S1 and 2) and some episodes of Wing 8 years ago and don't really understand what they talk about. What do I have to know/ watch before I understand setting, references etc?
So many EFF commies in this thread.
I am disappointed.
You don't understand that EFF is controlled and governed by jews, who send out nationalist whites into space, so they can make people lower their borders, racemix and persuade into giving them more shekels on earth, because jews take full control of world's economy. Terrorism was indeed needed strategy for spacenoid aryans to prove that EFF kikes aren't in control of their lives anymore.
Not to mention that humans evolve in space, by being born and raised there, and become "new types" of humans. So spacenoids are actual master race.
Most of you didn't even played Giren no Yabou games, fucking plebs. I bet you also don't vote for Trump.
Fuck you, Gihren. We both know that you're just using Deikun's theories as propaganda for your war machine. You don't even believe in Newtypes -- you've done jack shit with Newtype research, and it's Dozle's Big Zam and my Flannagan institute that've been left to pave the way for humanity's successors to take over.
Also, I know what you did to Degwin. Better watch your balls, Gihry-boy. I'm not about to let your patricide go unpunished.
You have better chances asking this milf, on how to be nice and fair.
the Zaku, it's blue brother and the gelgoog are the only things that zeon got right.
i still cant get over the fact that a gundam protagonist actually said this.
makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
>sides weren't prisons, and no one was suffering there or choking under the yoke of the federation's "totalitarian rule" or any of that nonsense
Well. When your whole earth becomes some sort of gigantic liberal shithole of NATO, you know that things are getting totalitarian. People were actually forced to live in space, while rich people and high class elites continued to fest on earth. There was resource shortage and overpopulation right before it was formed. Earth Federation completely destroyed borders of all existing countries, and placed one single totalitarian rule over entire Earth. In real world such thing would result in even bigger catastrophe, than some space war. National values are lowered, because there are no more nations that have power over politics of their own countries, this results in a lot of people migrating and racemixing, race and country concepts are completely destroyed, and all nations lose their individualism.
In real world this already resulted in muslims raping and sabotaging people of european countries, because stupid commies don't understand why borders are needed, people of their own countries were harmed by the results of economic greed of their rulers.
The whole argumentation of that picture reminds me argumentation that "Hitler was evil because of holohoax, you uneducated goyim!".
Now, when national concept was completely destroyed by communistic regime of Earth Federation, Zeon actually returned it to existence by giving spacenoids rights to have national patriotism of being born in space. And evolution into new types made them actually appropriate example of true master race.
Initially Giren planned to drop only one colony on secret base in jaburo, it was indeed justified act of terrorism, but it got off its course, because its separated during entering the atmosphere, this was told in Giren no Yabou Zeon Dokuritsu Sensouden. If he succeed that, and did not lost captured Revil, he could have won much faster.
I was so mad when the fed got saved by dumb luck again, other than that, my god this was just absolute perfection. This is how I've always imagined gundam should be, i actually FELT bad seeing that colony get fucked up. God damn man I just straight up felt all the feels in this episode.
Very disappointing. I can see now that I was right about this not going anywhere and using shock concepts to keep the viewer's attention.
Everything from the cringe worthy singing, to the blondie getting hard on for gundams, to the stupid "tissue" gag he has going, to the cripplies generic background story and his getting his arm chopped off was meh. I was bored the entire way through and didn't find any of this to be refreshing or even slightly cool.
Will wait for the next episode but this way to short and boring to keep me interested for the entire 4 episodes.
Naw I will finish it. I have this thing of me finishing what I will start. Thunderbolt is disappointing but it isn't the worst thing I seen all year. Let us see if they salvage this or turn this into one of the worst gundam in years.
pls go back to hellokitty and hellodanial
That new zaku that requires pilot to cut off his legs and arms reminds me this.
