Okay a few of those rules might be broken in the process.

I've actually had an idea floating around on this, ends up being like a drier and less onesided Fafner of sorts. Intent was to juxtapose different styles of mecha fiction, so you had the combiner robot alongside bipedal autonomous robots that were to replace tank and artillery battalions that themselves were actually capable of getting the job done but weren't the ideal solution due to reasons (namely that until appropriate weapons tech could be scaled to fit conventional arms, the platforms they'd be equipped on would have to scale up to a point where "land based destroyer / LD [pronounced 'eld']" is a term thrown around).

Only problem is I need to cull back the excessive amounts of weird that go on, I kinda let my fondness for weird paranormal bullshit get the better of me which doesn't make for easy consumption when the rest of the narrative swings towards a grounded style. Even Gasaraki isn't as weird as the ideas I had floating around.

I might also conclude, if I were a Soviet commander, that my answer might be "well, fuck armor, they are going to die anyway, more tank destroyers/upgunned T-34's/whatever we can make fast". And ram through more production on primitive attack helicopters, which some of my generals already regard as being like "better tanks" because they have strategic mobility, and the armor doesn't matter anyway.

If anything they might be fast and annoying enough that the mechs can't shoot them down as easily as they would like, especially if they fly nape of the earth like maniacs.

Also, more of whatever gun is just about good enough to reliably hurt them, and have it towed around by trucks, or tractors, or even horses.

They will lie in ambush and shoot mecha in the knee caps, sensor region, or cockpit, if it is foolishly underarmored to the point well aimed fire can penetrate it without much more difficulty than anywhere else. (Shockingly common, although at the price I'm paying for basically a gun, and some dudes, they don't even have to aim more than moderately well, I have a LOT of them.)
