Ugh, finally! Zeonic released more Thunderbolt. Moar Agguy loving time!
From their site:
A new battlefield! The Atlas Gundam descends to Earth! The year is Universal Century 0080. Io and Daryl's fate carries over to Earth. Plus, the fear of a third force, the South Seas Alliance! What is the outcome of their fate?! Complete collection of the "Sean the Desert Rat" sidestory included!
A new volume got translated already? I was expecting it to be translated in 6 months or later. Thanks for the link.
MSV-R Johnny Ridden actually gives the Acguy a use beyond Bearguys. Apparently it's been fluffed as being a superbly quiet and stealthy suit that is quite mobile.
You could have fooled me with legs and arms like those.
I saw a pretty young girl pilot introduced in this volume.
She's going to die fucking horribly.
This author does not allow women to go unharmed at-fucking-all in his stories.
She's probably going to die boiling to death in her flooded suit red-lining at the bottom of the sea or something like that.
I just can't help but feel that this author has really, really strong feelings about what "war" stories should have (women dying, cripples, war suicide missions and existentialsm, angry hotshots looking for blood, etc.), and he just can't stop making us have more and more of it regardless of if we want it.
Pretty much. It's just that when you go up against the fucking Gundam, you're puppy chow. In the Gundam Senki RPG book, they go on about how the Acguy runs extremely cool, so it's really hard to pick up on sensors when it's underwater. That's how that one got the drop on Karen Joshua on 08th MS Team and ripped her Ground Gundam's head off. It's supposed to be super good for ambushes or just listening.
No, I meant what I said. That sort of death is essentially too PAINLESS for this author.
He loves killing women in morbid, tragic fashions (the cute medic girl in the first arc finale of the Thunderbolt getting blasted to death got out easy, honestly).
I meant that this author is the sort of guy who would make the new girl:
>do something brash and stupid and easily preventable
>get fucked over for it and her MS breaks, crushing her pride
>she floats to the bottom of the sea at a depth no one can get to her
>her MS begins to crack and let in water while its reactor is also runaway overheating from previous damage (which is strongly implied to be her fault)
>she begins to drown and boil to death while also her MS begins to crumble at whatever silly depth its at
While that sounds remarkably contrived, it just came to me as the exact something the author would do the second he said she had an underwater MS.
I'm surprised that they actually put one of them in that G-Fighter
>I just can't help but feel that this author has really, really strong feelings about what "war" stories should have
He is just a fascist
> The battle between the Federation and Zeon was a battle between democracy and a dictatorship, but I don’t think there is that much difference between the two. When someone says that democracy is wonderful or that an authoritarian government is better, what criteria are they using? There’s an Arab quote that goes “A dictator is better than no government at all.”
I'm not sure that's wholly fair to the author, in the next sentence he says (quoting from that article) " right now, as I’m able to draw this manga, I feel that though the Japanese government right now is not perfect, it’s still great." Given that Japan is at least nominally a parliamentary democracy, he seems too complimentary of it to be a dyed in the wool fascist, again at least going off that article.
Mangaka has intoduced so many things in a single volume than a whole arc from early chapters.
So in next few chapters there will be cock-tease but no sex scene despite drawing lots of rape scenes in Front Mission :Dog style Dog life.
I would had really liked this manga more if wasn't "OYW&Zeeks" rehash #858.
Mechanical designs are crisp and sharp and Atlas Gundam is really weird, something out fof a shmup.
Anyway, kudos to Zeonic scanlations for their work.
Considering that his manga essentially have manly men doing manly things, I can't say it's too surprising.
With any luck, he could go further into UC (ala Climax UC), but I don't expect it to happen at all.
>something out fof a shmup.
There is a fan drawing that compiles many of the Core Fighters, drawn and lined up in a way to make it seem like they are from shmups. It's pretty neat.
Thank you OP, for the link, and good work for Zeonic on this.
That Akguy pursuit part was amazing, some time since I don't see a fight, involving Akguys in a gundam manga, so well done.
I also, personally, glad to see an author representing the earth in such shitty situation in the post war. Enormous ecological impacts, remnants going willy nilly, soldiers deserting to become marauders, polygamy, astonishing poverty, separatists and independence movements on earth, people, in the brink of desperation, joining the ranks of a fanatic religious sect, and the E.F trying the most to hold their shit together.
It really give that sensation of real impact, result from the war, that other gundam works try to give but don't have much succeed.
He's one of the few artists who actually depicts the world in a realistic way. The flooding of Malaysian cities as a result of the colony drop was a perfect touch as well. I think other stories forget that the war took place on many fronts on Earth and thus give up their attempts at drawing decay and devastation.
The South Seas Sect having that weird mix of Zeon and Federation suits reminds me of when the South Koreans got their hands on T-80s from the Russians in exchange for paying off their debt. They have a weird mix of West and Eastern inspired designs in their inventory
Those guys fukcing know how to hide that they are zeon remnants.
Not really. She has sex with the protagonist, the pilot named the 'Sheep Herder'. That's consensual, though.
I'm certainly not against depictions of rape, however. I mean, you have horny and angry men in a high-pressure situation. Throw in an attractive woman, and it's like throwing steak to starving dogs.
Shit happens, you know?
True, I guess.
>Not really. She has sex with the protagonist, the pilot named the 'Sheep Herder'. That's consensual, though.
Oh, well that's pretty fair then. Pretty nice reward, given the bleak tone.
Got halfway through, but is dead now.
Jesus Christ, I understand making a reference to 0079, but a whole damn battle copy-pasted?
And Big Zam too? Talk about pandering.
>That guncannon looks right out of armored core
Atlas looks like straight out of AC 4/FA era with oversized weapons from V/VD era.
And the shape of Atlas' tri-barrel railgun looks a lot like Python railgun from Last Raven, just bigger and longer
Dem feels right here, Io sure got good taste in women.
The last arc is the longest, and it's arguably the main story. The ending is really weird, though. Like, the actual ending is fine. The epilogue is strange and somewhat disturbing.
>The epilogue is strange and somewhat disturbing.
And we will nver know what happened. Damm!
Even a brief summary will do at this point.
But still Zeon had fuck huge armors who would eat entire squadren with ease.
Hmm.. that explains the yet another super prototype OYW side stories.
>Io isnt sanest person around
>Having Bianca around him really made him look like a normal human being
>Both loves music
>Both being badass Ace pilot
How can this ship get any better ?
also whats up With Cornelius with his dart ?
Cornelius is a childhood friend of Io (and Claudia). Something tells me he has a crush on him and is insanely jealous that someone else has his attention. Back during the thunderbolt sector battles, Cornelius was always around him and relied on him (whether it be for tissues or music). So when he was gone, he kinda had a falling out. Now that he's back and no longer the center of his world, he's kinda miffed. Taking it out on darts and scoring a bullseye haha
since from the pv we had or what ive seen from it is basicly it gonna end with Full armor gundam VS Psycho zaku, but if they are releasing both the Space arc on 4 episode and Earth arc on idk how many episode since its isnt over yet, this could be THE BEST GUNDAM could offer us in for a while now
>This series succeds
>More Io clones to replace heero clones
>Yasuo ohtagaki got hired to make another Gundam series/OVA/ONA
is it just me or yasuo is basicly kill em all tomino 2.0 ? cos if its that he can take all the gundam franchise for all i care
It's a Guncannon with Torpedos. She does pretty well with them. I think it's kind of neat how this arc is focused on amphibious combat. It's happened a few times in Gundam history, but not a whole lot
Yea thunderbolt aquatics are something else, they look intimidating as all hell, and we haven't even seen a Hygogg yet, I'm also loving the focus on the different types of munitions and weapons.
This is really getting better as it goes along
i still can't believe they actually genuinely managed to make the accguy look good
i kind of wish it was the standard gundam ms size
I remember when I was playing through UC 0081 on the Fed side and I kept failing that one naval base mission where you have to keep the Zeeks from getting over the line and I kept losing but I didn't know why. Turns out that Acguys in that game don't show up on your radar or map unless they've been severely damaged and the bastards kept running over the line.
Honestly, the person who has it bad right now is Professor Karla following the horrific incident with the beam saber vaporizing her comrades...
No, I had to purchase the hard copy version of that in order to scan the art for my website and MAHQ. The extras aren't usually available in digital format. They don't even include the back cover art in the digital versions either, which sucks since they have lineart on them :/
I'm working on Vol.7 but this is probably going to be the toughest volume in terms of complexity of dialogue at certain points. I'd love to have this out tonight or tomorrow, but that may be pushing it a little haha. Plus there's that song in the first chapter. I hate the songs in this series...
I was thinking about it, but I usually reserve the mechanical expositions and such for the site. There's nothing terribly interesting in his notes for the MS designs and what not though.
Yo Deacky I greatly appreciate and greatly prefer you using your vacation time on the Thunderbolt volumes but when do you think you'll have the time to do that second chapter of Blue Destiny?
What the heck is it with all the consecutive flashbacks? Mobile Suit Gundam: Memento?
Ohtagaki isn't even hiding it.
Looks like he did a lot of catching up if you ask me. Besides, he released volume 1 of beltorchika, which has some art changes and dialogue tweeks from his ace releases.
Funny how you try being a dick to him here on /m/, balofo, but it doesn't work. It's evident.
Look man I wish we'd get more Crossbone Ghost and stuff but I'm not picking a thread over which two volumes of Thunderbolt have been released with a third in progress to express that feeling in
This. I wish pricks like him would actually help the scanlators put stuff out instead of just bitch about it. It's hard work, and these guys take time out of their lives so faggots like us can read comics about imaginary robots.
Considering the history of Gundam manga groups since that group formed, he's the only one that lasted. How many people picked up Crossbone and dropped? Can't say I've seen anyone else doing this stuff for over ten years. Nozaku is the only other person that I"ve seen do thing. If someone is so pissed off about how slow he is and how he drops projects, why don't they just work on it? I don't recall there being any law with illegal work like this that says once someone starts something it's hands off. Oh wait, I know why: cuz no one else wants to translate Gundam. never have and never will
