wasted potential
you know nothing
"wasted potential" is like a codeword for "I wanted to like this but I can't for various reasons"
jesus fuck, there are people on this board who even consider the abortions that were seed destiny and age to have a lot of "potential" and then proceed to come up with various rewrites that basically make it not whatever the original story is

that shit is headcanon and you know it
how many of you fucks would complain that a untrained person became a high-skilled pilot due to behind the scenes timeskip?

It wouldn't have been any clumsier of an asspull than the twin brother, and the motivation for doing so is arguably stronger.

The concept was great. Mechs piloted by normal people in a gritty, Vietnam-esque setting. A small unit with a lot of personal drama and development.
We got a couple of "realistic" mech engagements, a couple of tense moments between characters (Sanders tossing Michel was the highlight), but most of it made way for a crappy retelling of Romeo and Juliet

It was still pretty much Vietnam
But not for the Feds, for the Zeeks

Still one of the best Gundam series ever, mostly because later installments have usually been utter shit.
I'm looking at you AGE, Greco, 00 and IBO.

>one of the best Gundam series ever
almost nothing interesting ever happens and you never develop a connection to any of the characters
0080 made me care about the characters and what happened to them in half the time and I barely even like it

Speak for yourself. I felt totally connected to the guy who whipped up a beam saber hot tub, cuck'd a zeek siscon and settled down to plow his hot wife in the mountains.
To this day, it remains a refreshing change of pace from the MCs of today who seem deathly afraid of getting laid. Don't even get me started on that tanned, red haired amazon. Muh dick, man.
Fast forward to the Gundam of today, and all we've got is boring political shows about boring characters who don't seem to have any real ambition or backbone of their own.
Even when we do get one, it turns out to be a plot powered literal god who'd be more at home in a Hokuto no Ken reboot.
This generic fucker might not be Mr Charisma, but 08th is still a fun romp if you let go of your burning hatred for MCs that don't get themselves killed.
