Question /m/
Do you guys think God Bless Dancouga works well on it's on or not?
Maybe, it mostly standalone

except for the party where the main villain from the TV series comes back with a major hate on
I mean you can contextualize it all just fine but I wouldn't say you'd get the full effect going in blind

Not really. There's a lot you have to understand for the movie to work properly.
If Muge wasn't still involved then maybe, but as it is? Nope, not really standalone.
I don't think it works either way. It somehow manages to shill Sara even harder than the original show did, there's barely any mech action in it, what is there is weak (the Dancoukogaken is the lamest thing; I'm just glad SRW managed to make something of it), and the rest of the movie is just the three guys escaping from jail while the rest of Alan's team die.
It was a pretty bad letdown after having watched the show.

>the Dancoukogaken is the lamest thing
What.
Like, seriously, what the fuck.

Memetier opinion desu

>Dancouga's ultimate attack is ineffectually channeling the laser from another craft (that comes out of nowhere, mind you) in order to barely cut a building in half.
Like I said, it's pretty awesome in SRW. They actually make it look powerful. In this movie, though? It's a weaksauce anticlimax. The Gundor's laser in the show seemed more powerful on its own.
