Number one rivalry in mecha.
So what's number two?
I really liked the rivalry between the main character and the guy with the mask. I forget the characters/show, can someone fill me in?
>and had no knowledge of this place.
Here's all you need to know:
Trolls would come to /m/ and make threads about either harassing Mari Ijima or Reba West in order to make them hate either macross or robotech fans and every OP post would end with either
>and we at RobotechX.com all laughing"
>and we at MacrossX.com all laughing"
and for YEARS any mention of Robotech and a fair amount of threads about Macross would automatically devolve into people repeating these "jokes".
At first it was Char who was dominating, then Amuro gets better and better until they were fairly even at Jaburo, then after that Char is outclassed.
That's what makes it interesting.

It has died down recently though, I don't think I've seen it been "in style" to do that for like two years now.
Submitting Setsuna and Mr Bushido
But A Baoa Qu was a draw. So was Texas Colony, and most of their fights come to think of it. Amuro clearly won in the Char +Lalah vs Amuro + Sayla, but that was his only major victory over Char up until CCA, which was by a hair as it was.
Graham would have been so much better if it weren't for that mopey Mr. Bushido bullshit phase in season 2. He kicked ass in the movie, though.
Aren't those basically Amuro and Bright though?
It's been a while, but wasn't Bright more of a "tough love" kind of hardass? He was always focused on what was best for the crew.
Holland was legitimately abusive. He was insecure and afraid of having his responsibility usurped by Renton, so he just beat the shit out of him to vent his anger.
> "tough love" kind of hardass
This is just a meme.Bright was young and inexperienced and just as confused as Amuro was.
Of course the Eureka Seven thing is blown out of proportion and kind of different but the parallels are there.
I like Amuro and Char as characters, but do they really have a great rivalry? Amuro is a better pilot, a better soldier, a better fighter, a better human being, a better newtype, etc.
> Amuro is a better pilot, a better soldier, a better fighter, a better human being, a better newtype
No. No he isn't.
