Are there any details on what ship Delta Squadron and Walkure is stationed on?
It looks like they're a really small force which wouldn't need something as large as a New Macross-class carrier which are tied to the expedition fleets anyway so I doubt they'd have one. They might have a Quarter but then that is still the size of a regular carrier and I'm not sure if LAI or SMS have branches in the Outer Rim that can supply them with one. Or will we see an entirely new class of smaller Macross ships that are even more agile than the Quarter so it could join Walkure's performances?
Personally, I wish that whatever Macross they have starts as a group of separate ships that can optionally dock together, unlike the New Macross-class or the Quarter that start out as a whole but can become independent ships. And not all the ships are military with some dedicated for Walkure/civilian use such as a recording studio/concert hall ship, hospital ship for treating Var sufferers etc. It could then gattai into a proper Macross ship if needed. Would be a nice callback to the original SDF-1 which did have its own city being the non-military part of the ship.
Yes they do have a Macross... Quarter.
Ever since Wings of Goodbye we've seen variants.
While we've seen Quarters with SMS it does not mean they are exclusive to them.
Remember while Earth gives Monkey Models it doesn't mean they don't want the stuff developed by fleets and colonies.
While Yaesu Heavy Industries and the L.A.I. Corporation took charge of design and completed construction in a dock inside Frontier of Macross Quarter R&D was done on Eden by Hashuu Heavy Industry Vessel Technical Research Institute and Shinsei Industry Vessel Design Headquarters.
Macross 17 Macross Quarter
Macross 23 Macross Quarter
Man, the quarter is such a sleek design and it kind of makes sense to have them, they could station two and just make a ship exclusive to pulling the colony instead of it being a macross and it would still be pretty well defended, or they could do what Frontier did and let the Quarter handle anything that is not really critical, letting the Battle Frontier handle the bigger problems
The main problem with Macross shows is that anything that is not the main Macross or its associated crew tends to get fucked by whatever enemies they're facing.
In all of the battle scenes, you see Valkyries and combat ships being blown up like they're fucking nothing, which makes it hard to take the fights too seriously. Even in the original SDF you see literally over a dozen Valkyries being shot down in each fight, and it's hard to believe that there were that many stationed on the Macross at the time that it flew into space (it's almost as hard to believe that the Macross would have manufacturing facilities or raw resources to produce enough Valkyries to replace the losses).
This is how I feel watching 7. Literally every week a fleet of ships are sent out and every week a shit ton of them get blown up by Protodeviln. It makes me wonder how do they even have that many to get blown up?
At a certain point I thought they were using drones, but nope, they were still people
So this is our first full main Zentraedi captain of a Macross right? I know the Macross 5 had one but he ded
Manpower is still a huge issue though. Yeah, you have around 50,000 civilians living on your space ship, but you can't hope to train enough of them up to snuff to sustain the losses that you're sure to take (moreso since a it will eventually degrade your fighting strength to nothing once you run out of experienced pilots, which is exactly what happened to Japan in WWII).
So she got an erection on her head from music?
>mfw hair erections will be a thing
>mfw the male Windemere's can get hair erections once they experience DECULTURE
>mfw, if the guys discover how to sing, there will be a scene where Freyja's hair erects for another man
>implying those same aliens weren't relevant in repopulating humanity and exploring the galaxy after they bombarded the planet to a near lifeless husk and made the human race an endangered species
To be fair, one million humans isn't exactly an endangered species. You thinned out the gene pool a lot, sure, but one million can easily re-populate to a significant degree. After all, civilization effectively jumped from one billion up to around seven or so in the space of a century.
Perhaps. But when you don't have much of a planet left to live in food and resources become very limited. Humanity also had to use Zentradi cloning to help them repopulate aside from the traditional means.
I have lost count of how many times I have watched the preview. April can't come soon enough.
Says the anon calling out other people for enjoying something. Maybe someday you'll find something you like too.
You do realize that Japan isn't actually much different from the US or much of Europe in that regard right? Japan is and has been 1.4 for years, while the US is and has been 1.9 for years. Average age of males and females isn't much different either. Males in Japan are 45 to 37 in the US, with women being 48 in Japan and 39. It's basically the same story across most of the developed world. There are very few remaining developed countries where the number of births per woman is above 2.0. If Japan is fucked, the US and the rest of us ain't far behind them.
Closest we got were Fire Bomber and their Sound Boosters. Now Aerial Knights having deployable Ghosts.
Shoji Kawamori did think once of a Valkyrie combiner.
Still looks like a Quarter variant.
Depending on the size of the buildings near it, I'd still be willing too believe it's a Quarter.
The Quarter class may be small by Macross standards, but they're still fucking huge.
The manpower thing was brought up in the original macross. That's why Max and I think it was Kenzaki was recruited and Hikaru was appointed as their superior officer because he was one of the few surviving pilots with combat experience or something like that.
There are a shitload of differences. For starters, Japan's population is limited by geography, a huge fucking chunk live in Tokyo or its surrounding areas, there's literally no room to grow. They also have an unhealthy as fuck workaholic culture, who wants to be a stay-at-home mom when you could instead be working at an office for the good of your country?
And as much as people like to make fun of the US and Europe for being xenophobic, it's nowhere near as bad as it is in Japan. The US and Europe are diverse enough that a respectable amount of their population growth comes from welcoming immigrants from all over the world.
They already had those as early as Macross 7, 20 years earlier
holy shit, in real time and in Macross time, that can't be a coincidence.
Yeah. Granted they aren't a solid solid mass, but in cruiser mode they are still longer than modern super carriers and pack over 60 aircraft and destroids, none of which are particularly tiny.
I know what you mean, the episode had a tendency to go off model with the eyes a lot and make them seem kinda fluid at times. I don't think it's too bad, but in a way it's reminiscent to the original macross.
>I don't know what it is about this artstyle but god is it awful. I think it's something to do with their eyes.
Same could be said about SDF's "artstyle".
After finally watching the Delta preview, I have no idea why it's hated on so hard.
fuck freija though
Why doesn't Itano do work on Macross anymore? Did he have a falling out with Kawamori, or something?
The most popular complaint seems to be "ew it has idol girls".
It would just be a rehash of SDF if they tried. They already do that at least once per series anyways, with the Meltrandi fleet in 7 and the Zentradi base on that planet in Frontier.
They have to settle with variations on the theme now. In 7 it was teaching the Protodeviln how to generate Spiritia through singing, and in Frontier it was connecting with and understanding the Vajra. I expect something similar to this in Delta.
Not huge news but they've announced some Delta diecast miniatures to be released in April. This does confirm Hayate's VF is a VF-31J model at least.
>and dropped the whole serious approach of the series back in Frontier though
>back in Frontier
Macross was silly since the beginning and Frontier actually had a lot of serious moments and got pretty bloody at times.
So did 7. That didn't stop the main premise and feeling of those shows to be silly as fuck. On the other hand SDFM only had some silly moments, while the overall thing had a serious tone to it. Not the same.
>I have no idea why it's hated on so hard.
Follows the same missteps of all modern anime in that it tries to applease everyone while at the same time appearing shallow and bland as a result. CG and character designs look like garbage and the people who keep saying 89% are delusional if they believe there's gonna be a huge difference in quality when its completed. The idol group bullshit doesn't phase me since Macross has longed stopped trying to be engaging and opted for bombastity instead so it'll probably just be as much fluff as they were in Frontier. The better question would be why people are needlessly defending it when there was nothing impressive about the preview and the plot synopsis itself doesn't sound interesting at all. I guess it had not dawned on me that by the time it airs there's gonna be no new mecha anime outside the Gundam OVAs to look forward to.
I am 30 episodes into 7 and so far the series has been nothing but escalating insanity. Nothing in Delta's preview has even come close to 7 yet in terms of crazy. On another note, I think more than anything 7 is the series that had the biggest effect on the franchise more than SDF. If SDF was the original foundation and DYRL was the moneymaker, 7 is definitely "that one series" that changed the entire mood of the franchise, I mean I'm assuming it was really popular considering all the extra post-show stuff it got and how well-known Fire Bomber is in Japan unless I'm completely wrong about this
>Not fucking them
Max and Millia fucking was one of the most important parts SDF anon
They can't literally do the same culture shock thing again as a whole series. That was done to complete perfection in SDF, hell taken to a complete extreme in DYRL, with the Zentraedi to the point that literally any other attempt at doing the same kind of thing would be a complete rehash or not nearly as good.
There's way more boys than grills anyway
>to the point that literally any other attempt at doing the same kind of thing would be a complete rehash
And yet that's exactly what >>13790194 wants. He should honestly go watch Robotech.
I sense much butthurt. You guys are probably the type of people who don't like happy endings and like all your media to dark and depressing, because apparently your miserable lives spent whining about how nothing's good anymore aren't miserable enough. Go become millionaires and animate your own shows if you're that pissed off.
>max and milia fucking was one of the most important parts of SDF anon
Thats what Roy is talking about in that image anon
He couldnt know about frontier or 7 antics due to getting pineappled
It makes so much sense. SDF and DYRL start the "play pop song over the final battle" thing but 7 is the one that has it every episode that it becomes iconic. DYRL introduces the songs being magic but 7 is the one that literally has visible music effect beams. SDF has the idol Minmei be a major seller for CDs and music but Fire Bomber is the band that became famous both in-character and with the actual singers in real life.
SDF sewed the seeds of the Zentraedi becoming main protagonist characters, 7 actually has them as main characters and now literally every season needs a Zentraedi or half-Zentraedi (though technically Plus did this first, 7 has a lot more)
That's because it doesn't exist. Here's a real proof of what Tomino said:
>Tomino thinks G Reco failed because it didn’t become as popular as AKB48. (That’s a bad way of gauging things. Maybe he doesn’t know that their sales are so high because some people buy 50 copies or more of the same single.)
>“I think I failed raising G Reco. It doesn’t align with my ideals. I’m sorry.” (In Nolife’s interview he said the same thing)
>“Gundam shows made by other people are crap, including Origin.”
I love how neither of them said anything about hating the idol aspect yet you jump on them stating that if you're saying it sucks in Delta it sucks in previous installments when its been stated many many times why people love SDF portrayal of music over the bullshit which started with 7.
>Not l liking Delta means you hate idols
>Not liking Delta means you like Robotech
>Not liking Delta means you want a rehash
Yep I think that's about all the memes for now. You Deltafags are gonna get eaten alive if this is the best you can do.
>“I think I failed raising G Reco. It doesn’t align with my ideals. I’m sorry.”
So Tomino talks like his dialog? I'm not entirely sure what he means here. How does one "raise" an anime? Does he mean promotion? How the anime turned out? Well he is a apologizing, so I'll give >>13791033
that. But I'm not entirely sure what he's apologizing for.
since some people are too stupid
You actually fell for it.
>member of idol group
nips gonna hate it
Well considering all complaints from people like you all boil down to, "wah it has idols, it's not like muh glorious SDF and Plus" all of which stated by Robotechfags, of course people will automatically assume you to be a robotechfag when you talk like one.
She an Mikumo represent different aspects of feminine charm.
Freyja is the cute genki girl from next door.
Mikumo is the beautiful and unapproachable diva.
Mirage is the neurotic overachiever that is a pain to be around.
>Mirage is the neurotic overachiever that is a pain to be around.
Oh boy are we doing this already? Cause I really hope we are!
If you can't understand the obvious character development she will go through that's on you. I mean at least she's a hard case cause she's a military pilot which makes sense. There's nothing wrong with being an overachiever as long as the show doesn't think its some kind of overly positive thing which they didn't do. Also she apologized which means she doesn't think all that amzingly of herself
>Mirage is the neurotic overachiever that is a pain to be around.
Well, well. It's our resident Mirage shitposter. Look here faggot, we know how much you hate Mirage but try not to pretend you know what going on with her at this point. We barely know anything about her character and story and you're pulling some unwarranted shit out of your ass.
>anyone who likes SDF and Plus are Robotechfags
Oh look a new one.
Not once has he or anyone said Delta is bad because its not Plus or Zero its just that you Deltafags can only respond using strawman.
He didn't say he liked Thunderbolt either.
This is the new /m/, brah. You're not allowed to judiciously reserve your verdict pending completion of a series anymore, you have to troll everybody by claiming that the entire series is going to be good or bad based on minor inconsequential details.
I wouldn't mind really, although idol girls is cool too
I just found some actually and it's the only one I could find.
Immigration fleets naturally get a Macross.
A planet, maybe a Macross as the flagship of the defence fleet, after they developed the place, of course.
But the galactic equivalent of rural areas don't usually get them.
Its like giving a fishing village a battleship to defend themselves from bandits.
Giving a Quarter to them would make more sense and its naturally easier to get a smaller ship than a full Macross.
Because the galactic equivalent of rural areas don't necessarily need a full Macross? Besides, the Walkure, a single squad don't need a full Macross.
Immigration fleets at least have the excuse that they don't know whats out there and having a Macross around to boost their firepower if needed is a good idea.
If there is indeed a proper Macross there, you can be very sure that its very likely to be the flagship of the planet's defence fleet, not the mothership of the Walkure.
Macross-verse have perfected the art of mass-production, but shitting out Macross-sized capital ships is still something they don't do for good reason, the Macross-sized ships(Macross, Battle-class) are their equivalent of battleships.
wait, aren't macross quarters a specially developed and highly advanced "pocket battleship" class of warship solely for SMS use?
I guess a quarter is fine for a elite mobile squadron, but even a fishing village or rural area would really only get a uraga or saratoga class carrier
>obvious character development
It's actually kind of funny how predictable stuff like this can become if you watch enough anime/TV.
Lets hope they surprise us with something new and do something totally different.
>specially developed and highly advanced "pocket battleship" class of warship
It'll most probably still be cheaper to send one of those than to send a full Macross. How many confirmed Macross-sized do they have?
The ending of Frontier's movie had quite a number of Quarters appearing to help.
There's like at least 55 colony fleets out there with their own Macross-sized capital ship, take away a few in cases like Battle 7 that got destroyed. Then add about 12 SDFN-class ships that weren't part of full colony fleets.
Maybe about 60-70 full Macross-sized warships?
It's probably cheaper, easier and faster to build a Quarter and give it to them if they really need the firepower of a ship bearing the name "Macross" than to let them wait till a full Macross is constructed and sent over.
>Lets hope they surprise us with something new and do something totally different.
What difference is there though? You can't have a character be an overly stoic hard case all series though I can't even say if that's 100% her character since she only is in the first episode for a few minutes before she starts piloting
>Do you see an immigration fleet anywhere in the setting?
Actually, Hayate mentions a colony fleet. When questioning Freyja, he asks her what planet she's from, or if she's from the colony fleet.
The major difference is that Frontier's dwindling population and resources made Leon's suicide charge toward the Vajra's planet seem like a great plan.
They kept on manufacturing MDE weapons and presumably valkyries meanwhile all the civilians were on half and quarter (lol) rations. Defense was their top priority. Though the loss of life in the Vajra Queen's counterattack always makes me sad. Or how that squad of VF-171 pilots got murderized by Ghosts with no chance of fighting back.
>The major difference is that Frontier's dwindling population and resources made Leon's suicide charge toward the Vajra's planet seem like a great plan.
More like their only option. The Vajra planet was really Frontier's last hope. The only silver lining that they have population wise is that a portion of the Galaxy's fleet is still alive, since the people were just put into suspended animation so that the Kabal could use their resources.
They do but that's because people really want to have children and get angry when you infringe on their right to do so. Other than mandatory implanted contraceptives, there's not much you can do to stop them.
I get the feeling I'm going to be the only person who likes that very first song we hear from Walkure, the one that Freyja is singing along to in the container, whenever we hear it in full.
It's like how nobody seems to love Minmei's Zero-G love the most either.
Where was this said?
I still really want to know what happened with the Galaxy colony ship. I mean, they show it off, and never show it again. All we get to see is Battle Galaxy get BTFO.
Cloning tech is readily avaiable in the Macross universe, IIRC. That's part of how they managed to get human numbers back up so quickly. Or at least, Zentradi half-breeds from a cloned zent/met
There's a lot more room in Japan than people assume, the problem is that it gravitates around large cities like you said, so smaller cities and towns are emptying pretty fast. If you're getting a regular train between places, you'll see plenty of unused flatland, but there's probably some bureacracy that prevents it being used, in addition to what I've said about urban centres.
Japan's biggest problem is the fact that people tend not to die that quickly unless they off themselves. It adds pressure onto the younger generations since they have more old fucks to care for. They're either going to have to keep their oldies working for longer, use more robots or the next generation or two is going to get buttfucked hard.by having to support the country and the elderly.
It'll even itself out, eventually.
I was on the fence on whether Mirage would really be in the main triangle but now I'm realizing that ever since Plus, there has to be someone with Zentraedi blood in there (except Zero because obvious reasons). Even 30 has one.
Well, Mirage was obviously best girl to begin with
>But there's like at minimum two guys to each girl.
I felt that 0048 handled that subplot in a surprisingly tasteful manner. But then, it was a part of the finale arc of S1, so of course it was good. That whole arc was excellent all around.
>implying Chuck isn't tapping that
>implying he is
>Implying his character won't be trying to get in Reirei's pants all series but she's too stoic to realize
>Implying he won't die
The subplot with Mamoru and Yuuka was handled pretty well.
The parts involving what the others think of the girls joining 0048 was nice overall.
>Nagisa's dad decides that they are on different paths, but they are still family
>Mamoru understands that he can't be with Yuuka if she wants to chase after her dream, and thus he steps back to support her and her dream
Do you even ドラゴン・シュレイヤー, you huge faggot?
In reality they probably do have boyfriends but are just really discreet about it, don't tell Otaku that though.
Kawamori though seems to think that such expectations are bullshit.
Why would they need them with y axis thrust vectoring? Also canards take their place and those are very common in his designs.
I don't see why there would be a problem with it, where do you think planes with internal storage keep their missiles? Modern explosives require specific conditions to cause an explosion, you can light a brick of c4 on fire and it won't blow up.
It seems like the Knights are getting their own manga. To be serialized on the Comic Zero Sum, aimed at a female demographic, starting on their June issue (which I think comes out in late April).
