>>13775652 AC3 & SL are basically reboots that follow an incredibly similar story line to AC1 but with better mechanics and a entirely new set of parts if thats your thing, most newer fans tend to gravitate towards anything from 3 on wards.
The fact that we are getting a new Ace Combat that is more true to the original games instead of the retarded AH one makes me hopeful that From will stop being gigantic faggots and make a new AC game instead of eternal souls games
>AC1 >Fighting Nine Ball for the first time >Holy fucking shit he's so fast >I'm outfitted with a laser cannon and shoulder gatlings for larger opponents >Targeting computer can barely keep up with him >Can hardly dodge his attacks at all >Finally take him down >Have double digit armor left >Continue on >Second Nine Ball appears >Fucks me before I can even think
After that, I just dodged the first one by dropping straight down the hole.
The second one was a bit hairier because my thrusters couldn't carry me to the top without a large recharge time, but once I got up there, his AI struggled to make it up the hole. I positioned myself down the hallway and when he got up there I fired the gatling gun and took him down no problem.
>>13779872 The worst part about V's voice acting was that it had two female operators that were virtually indistinguishable from one another for quite a while. At least chief was good. Him, and the one zodiac voiced by Troy Baker.
>"I guess you really did give up everything for the project Ange. Your body, your brain.....your soul. But hey, who needs a soul, right? As long as you *win*." >"Damn it, this has to be some kind of sick joke! We turned ourselves into puppets for *THIS*?! I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER WHY!"
VD was a return to form though, Fatman and Maggie were great, especially since the later shared a VA with the best operator of all, Serene Haze.
>>13779920 Yeah, I felt the same way about V. VD got be back into the series though. It polished a lot of V's issues (including balancing parts, making the main missions shorter and less tedious and the side missions longer and more varied and having an incoherent story). It also had heavily customizable AI controlled partners, the UNACs, the tweaking of which is a whole game in and of themselves.
>Though i heard the last boss is some kind of edgy supped up White Glint. That true? Yes. Though even fighting a genuine NEXT in a regular AC is pretty cool to have.
>>13779983 They just dragged on and on. I replayed the early train mission on a friend's save, and was astonished at how much fire it took to wer it down, even with the best weapons available at the time, add to that it running in circles made for an extremely tedious experience. And only the main missions were long, the side ones had the opposite problem of throwing you against small numbers of the same three enemy types over and over for 40 motly interchangeable missions, with another 40 of arena fights and few zodiacs.
VD still had some decent length missions, just not 'travel to different map region in real time levels of length', and the side ones were varied enough to stay fresh, at least to me.
>>13781876 http://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2015/12/10/shoji-kawamori-the-creator-hollywood-copies-but-never-credits/ >“When the design for Armored Core was requested to me, it was before the original PlayStation was launched. There were quite a lot of unknowns and there were ideas for separate parts, such as arms, feet and weapons and so on. These then had to be combined by the player on their own.”
>“However, if you allow a player to create their own mecha it makes it very hard to give it a sense of visual identity. Such as clearly differentiating from other mecha anime and games. I also thought that other games would follow suit when this was released.”
>“As I believed that this idea should differentiate this game from the rest of its competition, I proposed the concept of the “armored cores”. Meaning that of the core block with cockpit and engine as well as the joint connectors for head, arm legs, weapons and so on. They adopted the proposal and called it Armored Core as a consequence.”
Playing AC1 right now, on the last mission WHOEVER THOUGHT HAVING TO NAVIGATE A HUGE SHAFT USING TINY FLOATING, MOVING CUBES ONLY TO MEET NOT ONE BUT TWO FUCKING NINEBALLS SHOULD GO FUCK THEMSELVES UP THE ASSHOLE WITH A VERY SHARP SPEAR WHILE GIGANTIC NIGGER COCKS PLUG THEIR MOUTH AND EARS YES I'M MAD FUCK
>>13775644 >buy Four Answer when I'm 16 and stupid >shelve because I can't into complex shit >come back at 19 >love it >S rank almost every mission on regular and hard >join army >replay it at friends house >all skill evaporated since then
How do I get good at Four Answer? Even when I was at my peak my Sniper Cannon and Grenade mech would get trashed by nips.
I'm just playing casual now with friends, and the online is dead, but some high ceiling PVP would be fun.
Also are V, Verdict Day, and vanilla 4 worth getting? I just want to have fun again /m/.
>>13793107 >Even when I was at my peak my Sniper Cannon and Grenade mech would get trashed by nips. I know that feel. I always run into builds with an absurd amount of primal armor and my mech that would normally push everything's shit in is completely useless.
Front Mission fan here (please don't be rough), does Armored Core get much easier to control? I played the first game a while ago, and found myself only barely getting through some missions, without much improving.
I just want a nice story-filled mecha action game, but the closest I've gotten was Ace Combat.
>>13794098 >>13794108 It wasn't so much the up and down, but more like just not feeling as much in control. Would try to strafe attack someone but would still end up pretty damaged throughout any encounter I went through. I saw in the thread that 3 is like a remake of 1 or something, I'd have played 4 by now since a friend recommended it to me before, but I'd hate to miss out on any story bits. Maybe it'd be best to just jump to PS2?
Damn the next game if we even have one might be fucking insane, just think the last boss of VD was an AI in a scraped together NEXT. just imagine the shit that will happen if somehow hustler-one makes it into a NEXT. that is if the story keeps going the ways it is. sill make me all the more excited to see what happens next.
>>13794145 >Would try to strafe attack someone but would still end up pretty damaged throughout any encounter I went through. Not getting hit in AC is less about moving fast and more about never ever moving in a straight line for an extended period.
>I saw in the thread that 3 is like a remake of 1 or something, I'd have played 4 by now since a friend recommended it to me before, but I'd hate to miss out on any story bits. There's three primary story arcs as such. The original AC through AC2AA, AC3 through Last Raven, and AC4 through Verdict Day. You can start at the beginning of any of them and not miss anything. Additionally, the links between the PS1 games and AC2/AC2AA and between AC4/4A and ACV/VD are weak enough that you can still enjoy the story just fine.
>>13795707 Well I'm not too sure either. Heard it from /vg/ and /v/ but never tried it out.
That said Nexus/NB/LR are playable in software mode just fine http://wiki.pcsx2.net/index.php/Armored_Core:_Last_Raven. It requires a decent rig though.
AC games up to Nexus are much more easily emulated because of the simpler engine so I see no reason to play 3 and SL on the PPSSPP. Especially considering shittier visuals and controls. A bunny head and two extra arena opponents are not really that worth it.
>>13793107 I was a 4/For Answer player on 360 and loved playing online, it was my whole reason for buying into the scam that is Gold. Of course since no one plays it any more (which makes me sad) I didn't bother renewing Gold.
>inb4 buy PS3 version I would but I'm not sure if the online is any livelier on PS3 and the 360 controller just felt a whole lot better in my hands. Those QB triggers nnnngh.
So we all know that a truly open-world AC game wouldn't work. But what I'd like to see is if they took a little bit of influence from Bloodborne and instead of navigating a menu, made a hub world instead, like a Global Cortex headquarters or something. You can create your character, change his pilot suit based on corporate affiliations or whatnot, talk to NPCs and occasionally get challenged in the arena, walk to the garage to look at/work on your AC, go to the briefing room to select missions, visit your operator, occasionally see other players walking around
>>13798799 I really, really like the efficiency of AC's menu hub. What you're asking for is modern bloat. It works well in Demon's Souls because it fits the environment and setting, it's completely inappropiate for Armored Core. And there won't ever be anything more appropriate than what it already is.
>>13798799 >waste time/resources making pilot models for no reason other than to run around the menu and slow things down
>>13799016 >I'd like the other pilots to be fleshed out more and have the story be told through something other than words Please no. Emblem + AC + dialogue tidbits and out of mission messages is perfect. Helps in giving the game that claustrophobic dystopian feel.
>>13801843 Those may be normals. They do look like default AC's but I think some rayleonard normal looked like that (never get a close look at them).
That said, AC's and Ravens also mentioned in story in 4, specifically as a dying breed compared to the new type of AC's (the full term for which is 'Armored Core NEXT', as in, the next generation of Armored Core).
>>13801885 They could be reintroduced though, since NEXTs are not only polluting but also phased out in V. Also if they all went into underground after VD because of the ruined surface it makes sense to use tech that's more suited for enclosed spaces. Also it would fit FROM's boner for cycles.
I tend to prefer the simpler answer that ACs are all in order as it fits the tech progression of the games easier regardless of plot.
I also wish we'd get more resolution to the V series, Lost Day sounds like a game outline even and VD came nowhere near resolving the overarching storyline between the three parts and left dangling threads like the space hangar.
>>13801910 Yeah, I wasn't trying to refute the connection, just bring up more evidence of their presence in those games. It's pretty clearly implied that people went back to and improved regular AC tech after NEXTs and other Kojima technology were stored in massive sealed facilities to prevent them from being used and worsening the environment. even further
>>13803321 >came nowhere near resolving the overarching storyline and left dangling threads like the space hangar. That's kind of Fromsoft's thing though. Vague, unresolved stories that are more about the thematic elements than narrative ones, and lots of loose ends to be interpreted.
>>13812625 Depends on the game. AC through AC2AA it's all quads all day. AC3/SL it's OPI'd LWBs. Nexus and Ninebreaker is tanks. Last Raven is whatever I need to beat THIS FUCKING MISSION GOD DAMN. 4 is MWBs, 4A is quads and LWBs, V is HRJs, VD is LRJs.
Weapon is generally lasers or machine guns. Rarely both at once. FUCK missiles.
>>13812625 Generally it winds up something like a mid biped with light core and arms to save weight, and some combination of a machinegun and grenade launcher, plus whatever else is good that I can fit.
Except in 4A. There (of all games) I wound up maining an overweight heavy biped that was practically made of guns. It was something like 2000 units over the recommended weight limit.
Just started AC3 from your recommendations, it's so scary to just get by in the Arena, but this is fun. By which point should I stop using the defaults or Arena parts, and start shopping? Still unsure of how to spend this bit of cash.
>>13814724 >>13814755 Yeah, wait until you have some arena cash to play with, then experiment a bit and see what works for you. Your machine will gradually warp into its final configuration as your preferences settle.
I'd start with machineguns, can't go wrong with them, they're good for just about every situation in just about every game.
>>13815098 I never found that myself. Once I got the MG-500 I basically used it the whole game and I never noticed any significant finance drain, and I was just spraying away with it. The MG-1000 was the expensive one, but that's hardly new game equipment anyway.
This is a matter of personal preference, really. Energy weapons can help you scrounge cash and are often fairly powerful, but in exchange empty your precious boost meter, and having both your mobility and offence draw from the same source is often a liability. Expert players can make it work extremely well, but it's hardly the one true option.
A machingun on the other hand is easy to use and effective. Ammo is generally cheap, even for a lot of rounds, they can do a disgustingly huge of cumulative damage very vast, and accuracy isn't a problem because the few bullets that miss count for a lot less than a missed shot from a more powerful weapon.
>>13815120 You can replay any arena fight for practice, but won't be awarded for it, only new fights give money. However, you don't lose any money if you get beaten in the arena, so you can throw yourself at it as much as you want until you win, and operating costs are free as well, so it's a good way to earn some cash early on if you don't want to do missions with the shitty starting AC. The E rank prizes may not seem like much, but you get a lot more as you go up the ranks.
In 3 you do get stopped at certain points up the arena ladder and have to go do more missions to be allowed to progress, but by the time you hit that point you should have plenty of cash to play with.
>>13819769 >playing on a keyboard You're fucked. Get a gamepad. >>13819750 You can map the PSP buttons closer to the PS2 configuration. So you could change L-arm to L1, weapon switch to R2, and boost/jump to L2.
Parts of AC2AA are ok but AC2 itself is wayyy better. All of the AC3 era games are even better. Armored Core is kind of an up and down franchise but it's still my favorite. I hope From uses it's Souls team for Mecha shit finally.
>>13823592 probably my favourite setup was my baby, the kaiserV middlewight hanger unit with left arm heavy laser sniper rifle, right arm MG, and inside dual handguns, radar on left back, micro missiles with missile extensions for the right back.
>>13798799 Would be cool in another series but I'd rather keep AC as is. The lack of interaction with other NPCs and a world in general really nails the feeling of being a mercenary who pilots a mech and that would be lost if I'm constantly chatting with NPCs.
