Which Valvrave mech would you like to see the most in SRW?
Spirit sets in FMW are kind of a mixed bag, because while it's good that everyone isn't generically perfect and that you're sometimes forced to actually think about how to safely use certain characters, it really does suck that on the higher difficulties certain characters are just outright worse because they don't have Fury or Strike. They're still useable at least.
Also not having Valor is barely an issue. Boss HP values don't get high enough that you honestly need a x1.5 multiplier unless you're on Lunatic, and if you're on Lunatic then Valor is fucking worthless because you're saving your SP for Strike/Alert/Grit/Fury. And regardless of difficulty, you're better off forming huge support attack/friendship blocks instead.
Raw stats don't necessarily mean much if the net benefit exceeds the stuff that you trade off. Super pilots tend to have much worse pilot stats than reals but the robots make up for it.
The real "god fucking damnit why doesn't this character have this" is Shield Defense because Supers in FMW literally live or die based on if they have it.

The problem isn't really the no Valor. The problem is the cost to effectiveness ratio of the spirit because of things like Direct Hit doing way more for your damage when you pay like half of the cost.
And then there's bosses where you don't need either because support attack spam do all of the damage you need to burn through that 20-40k per spellcards pool.
Support defense/attack really is key to the higher difficulties, it's pretty much impossible to not die if you don't make mass abuse of support defense anyway.
In Normal you can more or less stumble your way through everything even if you don't know what half the skills do as long you don't do anything outright stupid.
FMW has probably one of the best battleships in a while, because as it turns out a gigantic hunk of wood is pretty good at taking hits. Even has a surprisingly good finisher and some top tier spirits.
Though I guess FMW4 kinda ruins that since Murasa and Ichirin ditch the ship.
Yuyuko is the outright best tank in FMW3 because she has that bullshit ability that turns any activation of Shield Defense into an automatic dodge.
Meiling has a solid hold of second place thanks to better availability, but no matter how high her defense gets she can't beat taking no damage at all. And she still has Shield Defense anyways, she's just probably equipping the Support Defend On Player Phase PS instead.

It's a mixed bag.
On one hand you do lose the fantastic finisher but on the other you gain a barrier for the biggest bulkiest unit in the game. Plus Rinnosuke has a much better shooting stat for the MAP and attacks to work off unlike Murasa's shittacular shooting. There is actually like a full 30 point difference between the two, it's nothing to sniff at.

Yes, but the skill itself got nerfed. It still allows you to activate Shield Defense procs, but it no longer counts as having a shield for the purpose of taking less damage when defending.
Yuyuko's a great tank (and a fantastic unit all around, really), but that skill doesn't get really good until NG+, since she just doesn't have enough spare PP to take advantage of it. She only learns one level of Blocking by default, and it's one of the most expensive skills in the game to increase. I'd put that PS on par with Ran's default one - hilariously broken in NG+, but impractical to use before that. On a fresh run, you're probably better off running one of Yuyuko's SP-restoring skills to take advantage of Rally.

She'll have to settle for third place if the demo for the new game is anything to judge by.

That ability is pure madness, it even bypasses Lock On, it's basically the sole reason you want max Blocking and a lv of Support Defense on Yuyuko the second you get her.
You don't really lose the finisher. You just have to bring Murasa along to use it as a combo.
Besides, getting Ichirin off the ship to abuse her Barrier and Guard is the real bonus.
Snooping around the .dats for FMW3, there's a whole bunch of information on each character's Revenge mechanics. If you don't know, if a character A is on character B's revenge list, and A is shot down, then B gets a small, invisible buff to their base damage.
For the most part people on a character's Revenge list are also friends with them, and as you'd expect the buff is usually proportional to the level of friendship. But there are some amusing outliers:
- Meiling is friends with all of SDM, but doesn't give a shit if Patchy or Koa dies. And she cares like twice as much if Sakuya or Flandre bite it than if Remilia does.
- Sakuya's highest buff is for Remilia dying, but even that's only slightly higher than the buff she gets if Meiling eats it. I think only Patchouli and Flandre really care if Remilia dies, nobody likes her.
- Yukari has an absolutely absurd buff if Yuyuko dies. It was like +100 in earlier versions, and even after nerfing it's +65. Meanwhile if Ran dies she just gets a +20.
- Ran is apparently ill-liked in general because kinda-coworker Youmu cares more about Reisen dying than Ran.
- Yuugi apparently really does care about her sorta-girlfriend after all, because her revenge buff for Parsee dying is much higher than if Suika does.
You know, recently I went and watched up some old robot anime openings, and when it got to Ginguiser here, I saw a familiar "transformation" to that robot which was just as ridiculous then as it was when I first saw it years back.
Seriously, people made jokes about the logic behind Getter machines, then you have this thing.

Those make a surprising amount of sense. After all, Remilia's a dick, and Ran's whole gimmick is that no one but Chen gives half a shit about her.
Now that I think about it, it's rather odd that Ran is the only boss character whose default battle theme is pulled from a stage where she was someone else's midboss.
The weird part is that the individual mechs transformations aren't all that weird, it's literally just how the toys would've worked

The weirder part is that the combined Ginguiser is a mostly sensical combination of the four... EXCEPT THE COMBINATION SEQUENCE. Like, in the show, you can see where the four go when it's combined. It just makes no sense while combining. (And they summon weapons out of nowhere, but the individual ones do that too, so whatever)
Someone started a translation effort for Alpha 3 and we have proof of concept that text insertion is possible in FMW3. Other than that, not a whole lot of recent news.
Alpha is still at 65%.
A rough timeline for FMW3 will probably be like
- Menu patch up by the end of the 3 day weekend.
- Main script inserted, checked, and edited in like a month. Maybe a month and a half.
- The patch might try and go further since FMW3 deserves a full translation, but halfway through FMW4 will come out and everyone will drop the project like a hot potato.
If everyone follows the style guide the editing portion of the script insertion shouldn't take too long, but FMW2 was a literal mess so I'm not very hopeful on that front.
It's pretty much your standard SRW, though styled more after the early days, and with a good element of randomness to go with the extremely high number of units available, and depending on the mode. New units are acquired through in-stage convincing (either its own command or through defeating them depending on the mode), and in some modes, a random roller.
It's kind of odd to explain, but if you've played a SRW before and then you move onto this, it shouldn't strike you as terribly difficult to understand.

Animation is extremely basic. You see those head icons for the units? Imagine them crashing into each other for tackling attacks, showing a little sword over them swinging for sword attacks, and the like. Some bigger attacks give some rudimentary cut-ins or the like (Stoner Sunshine is an example that has pseudo-animation), but really, it's a low-power fangame, so you shouldn't go in expecting anything like what SRW is capable of these days. The novelty is all in the extreme number of units it has.
I don't have the link anymore, but I once made a pastebin entry that contained the list straight from the files of all the series included, but let's just say that over 300 separate entries are included from the 1960s to 2014. (Though series entries just means that the main unit itself is represented, very few series will have supporting mecha, mostly stuff like Boss Borot, the other Celestial Being Gundams, and the like)
Anyone actually try the patch or are we all waiting for it to be a bit more. So far its Battle Menu, Unit Names (70%), Attack Names (70%),
Main Menu, Intro Text, and Stage Names.

Don't forget that that shot was taken with a low-level Simon and without ranking up the mecha to Rank 10. I believe all the attacks would be 1000 points stronger then. Might not sound like much but the game is modeled off the lower attack values of the classic era, so there's that.
Don't think it has, in keeping with SRW tradition the PV must always have a nice theme that is never used in the actual game.

And Char's Counterattack, and the end of 0083, and the first half of the Jeeg plot which gets finished in Alpha 3, and the first half of Gaogaigar's plot which gets finished in Alpha 3, and the finishing of the Mycenaeans and Dinosaur Empire, which had to be done in the present, and the Daitarn plot, and the Voltes and Daimos plot that leads into the resurgence of Combattler in Alpha 3... Oh, and the individual plots of the routes are important to the ones they lead into.
@G's plot is "We're in the future and have to fight OG people we will never fight again in the present", but it was the FIRST one translated, so no, that's not an excuse.
I'm talking strictly about the OG plot, not the series' plots. All the Alpha's should be translated, but in regards to the OG plot, @2 is the least important.
@G being translated first isn't that big of a deal, and it makes sense since its the smallest of the @ games and was on the PS.

Gaiden was fin because it had nothing to do with the storyline, didnt even have main characters. but im guessing we at least need 1 to fucking understand everything in 3 since its the end. plus we wont care as much about the characters and story/world. It's not something that's to be translated. It's named ofter one of the three sacred treasures of Japan, the Ame no Murakumo. I can't help with the first two, but the latter four is Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi.

Also interesting to see what's apparently "programmed" into the game through the units available, but not actually available because the game doesn't have a unit necessary. Godannar's Triple Drive, Red Baron has a combo attack with a Gold Baron, TV Psybuster has a combo with the TV versions of the other Elemental Lords, God Gravion has a combo with a Sol Sigma Gravion...
Its Awesome that someone is translating @3 but NOTHING ever goes our way. We have the worst luck out of any fanbase, even though most or some of our fanbase can actually read Japanese.. FE got a translation out of nowhere, now ace attorney for the 3ds which is 10x more wordy then a srw is getting translated. Why are we so unlucky?

Yeah but you would think anime fans would want it translated plus the fact that we DO have people who can read Japanese out of any fanbase besides the visual novel fanbase. So why do we have no translations that ever come to anything or take forever?

Pre-Armor Damage: (((Stat+Will)/200)*Weapon Attack Power)*Terrain Modifier (1.1 for S, 1.0 for A, 0.8 for B, 0.6 for C)
Pre-Damage Armor: (((Defense+Will)/200)*Armor)*Terrain Modifier (same as above)
The defense boost from terrain reduces final damage by the percent listed.
Things get more complex when you have passive damage boosts and stuff, but this'll help give you ballpark figures of what your units are capable of.
It's usually something like 60-65% normal damage for squad members attacking the leader, or when you're doing Wide formation in Z1. There's a skill that'll reduce the penalty to 80-85%.

Are you talking about the "increased SSR rate" a couple months ago? I tried to get a Guren from that and failed miserably, but as time went on I basically made up for it and then some. Still didn't get the SSR original with Superhot Shatte, though.

I have: Imber, Taubern, Gunbuster, Mazinger(JS), Christmas Kallen, Gawain, Lancelot, J-Ark, Sword Strike, Sazabi. However, none of them are limit broken besides Imber x3.
SR List: Original (4x), Mao's M9, Gunbuster, Getter-3 (4x; NO REALLY), Great Mazinger, Mazinger Z (1x), Todoh Gekka (2x), Big Volfogg, Shooter Choryujin, Gaogaigar (3x), Shooter Virtue (2x), Defender Dynames (1x), Shooter Exia (1x), Shooter Blitz (1x), Attacker Duel (1x), Buster, Sazabi (4x)
And I have a lot of Platinum Tickets I'm waiting to dump into the 3rd Base Gasha.
If I recall my SSRs, I've got:
Imber (4/4), Lancelot (3/4), Gunbuster (4/4), Gawain, Shooter Getter 1, Great Mazinger and I think that's it.
Pretty shit luck but then again I don't play often to farm crystals and roll as much as I should (not?) do.
Tips to getting SSR's.
(I have 8 not counting the 5 event ones)
1. Never spend the 5 or 50 Crystal's on anything.
2. Stick to one Base Gasha, and always to Tickets on that Gasha.
3. Save all S-Chips, until you can buy enough to limit break the SSR.
4. You can only get 1 free crystal's a day.
(The mission where you get 5 crystal's stops working after a while.) Other crystal's you get come in a limited amount. Use them wisely.
5. While this has never worked for me, I work's for some people.
- Play theme song of unit you want.
- Change your device them to the unit.
- Watch video's of your unit in action
- Dance and scream out the names of it's attack's
- Full of hot blood, you will get the SSR. (If not you need to do more.)
Hopefully those tips help.

Thanks to the mod I pretty much use a team of 3 shooters and an attacker. Then I use a friend who has a shooter as their leader.

Story prominence? I've only seen the enemies from it... like, twice. The stage where Bakuryu first combines with Tobikage, and the stage where you're in Byston Well immediately afterwards. Do they start having a presence after THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH?

There's a 2-stage Byston Well route after 26. And you fight them on stages 35, 38, and 40. And that's the end of the plot unless you recruited Sakomizu, who shows up in 45.
It really says something about my obsession with SRC at the moment that I'm figuring I should re-do many of my taken pictures so as to show the machines at their best strength, with max-leveled pilots and max-ranked stats and in their upgraded modes, even working in tandem with the data to try to make sure I don't miss combination attacks.
It is rather humorous that after I bloated the save file by upping my hard limit on units, I broke the game because it's not programmed to handle the concept of the player having all available units. Anything that would present another unit causes a crash.
Some of my pictures show my edited levels of 990. I dunno why I'm so fixated on chronicling so much of the game like this, I guess because it was a surprisingly fun distraction during this dry period for SRW, and the quaintness of so many units (though apparently I will never have Genesic GaoGaiGar and Chirico's last mech).
I'd also screenshot unit abilities and ability descriptions to make a more thorough reference, but I'd need help with the translation of the finer details of the abilities. (Though most are just re-names of the same abilities like different types of barriers, but whatever)

Man, I'll be sad to see it go when Banpre finally announces an actual SRW. It'll just be back to me screwing around with the engine alone.
I doubt I'll completely give it up, I'll probably still keep checking in on future updates to the game so long as the guy behind it still seems to be working on it, especially if it looks like he'll ever update with more units and series in the future.
Plus it'll serve as a good placeholder during the time between a SRW's announcement and it's release, and whatever intervening time it takes me to acquire the game (if it comes on a system I can play it on, anyway)
In the meantime, there's always insanity like this.

Anyway items, dialogue names, pair names, danmaku effects, song names, spellcard record entries, and spirit descriptions are up and running. Skills and Abilities are like 50% done too.
Besides the shitty ass font, FMW3's intermission menu has a lot more space so we might not need to super compress names this time.
All of the description windows are like x1.5 bigger and even have a third row in the intermission screens. It's beautiful.
Not so beautiful is how Sanbondo apparently didn't account for new lines when they changed up how multiple danmaku effects are displayed. Guess everything will have to be on one long line.
Probably doesn't make him particularly usable, but now looking at things with maxed stats, Super Earthgain remarkably powerful there, outclassing Gunbuster and Gurren Lagann and holding himself even with the Shin Getters.
Is it bad if the main reason I want Gun X Sword back in SRW is El Dorado V?

Endless Waltz gets in because it's the easiest Wing work to fit into your game and contains a lot of recognizable mobile suits. Unicorn doesn't have that (if any UC work has that, it'd be either 0080 or 0083 really, maybe F91 I guess).

Part of me wants to see this, part of me wants to run at them yelling "NO, WAIT, STOP" because Lamune is fucking famous for having no finished subs (Someone - I think it was Daimos - noted that it had VHS subs. They only go up to episode 15 or so.)

I figure they might save Lamune for last, although Hepoi (and possibly Wataru, if they want slightly better subs I guess) honestly needs the subs more.

I think it's fucked-up how they keep blueballing Domon by forcing him to be forever alone (last time he wasn't was 2008). I just want G Gundam with Shuffle Alliance + Rain + Allenby representation in a console SRW again.
Yeah, though at least he gets it slightly better in DWG and the EX VS. series. The least they could do is toss in 90s Red Baron, Tetsujin-28 FX and Daigunder to pair the show with, for God Gundam's sake.
Rain at least exists in-universe in DW Gundam, but if they continue that series as long as the main DW (we're up to Shin Sangoku Musou 7 and there's an 8 in production), they need to bulk up on content that's neither CE nor UC.
Look at Matt, able to just come up with decent ideas on the fly like that, whereas it was sheer luck that me picking random series from a hat actually had some cohesion.
I ought to just put you to the test and have you turn my list into a full-fledged story as a side project to FIRST, just to test your skill.
I figure that they'll do so eventually. Since they're not removing much content, having pretty much cleaned house on CE will probably have them shift focus elsewhere (although the only caveat is some shows haven't been included yet, so expect AGE, IBO, Thunderbolt and G-Reco to arrive).
I don't like to do stories when I haven't seen most of the involved series, you'll note that most of that list was basic things because I've only seen like half of it.

I actually really want them to use Force together with something like Gaiden or Sangokuden. Hell, even a main series.
Force is literally SRW bait, especially if they take all the alternate forms from the PS2 game into consideration. Even without them, the story's easily segmented to give everybody equal time for upgrades.
It's kinda funny, isn't it. In modern SRW, the Vifam doesn't really have much to work for a moveset, but in a classic-style game it doesn't need any more than that since you can just make that beam gun way strong with post-movement.
Not to mention that without the Neofam, that last attack doesn't even exist and both are stuck with only two moves. You gotta down some cash to upgrade them with Flight capability, too. Yet they're still not terrible units, what with the mentioned beam gun and post movement and their combo attack being fairly cheap.
They got some special abilities, too, that I can't really make out the descriptions of (might screenshot them sometime when I've run out of units to catalog and need something else to obsess about). I think whatever they are, they're also based around being better in conjunction with each other than they are alone.
When will we get vifam, votoms, galient, dougram and layzner all in one SRW. Im hoping these will be in the next big srw.

They can always be used as a reliable budget version of Nadesico and Fafner units; similar appearances and shared moves. Plus they have shields made out of the ship's highly-durable hull.
Every danmaku effect description window is going to reach across the entire screen now, but at least silly things like this are readable.

But I'm just saying even factoring Shu's bullshit range attack nullifying attack and MAP, Valsion has an I field that nullifies everything, Level 4 Shield and Level 3 Sword Cut and 20 Cross Smasher attacks. And 20 slightly weaker attacks. With 100% accuracy and the ability to deal over 3000 damage per attack.
