FT failed for a lot of reasons. Female Quatre wasn't one of them. She was actually really interesting but the story focused on flashbacks so much that after the first few battles all the new characters barely got to do shit. Then you had the present day story mostly focused on Relena and Heero while the dozen or so other characters were irrelevant. It felt like Sumizawa had a much bigger plot in mind but tanked it in the end for various reasons.
