>>13746306 Personally, I'd have bought it if I hadn't first spotted an AGP KanColle Musashi for cheap (relative to the release prices online).
Anyway, I wish we got a competent Nemesis Prime or Evil Prime copy who does so well it actually forces Megatron to team up with the Autobots. I admit I have a soft spot for Nemesis Prime and this particular Scourge, as he was the first Transformers toy I ever had. With his tanker trailer transforming into a battle base, and being a near opposite copy of Prime was the coolest shit ever. Moreso when said copies prove more capable (don't think it happened in the TF-verses, but I do like it in other various Sci-Fi works).
What I want is for Shockwave to have a bigger role in most TF stuff. That monoeyed devil is always the coolest guy onscreen. Heard he led the cons for awhile in the comics that I will probably never read.
>>13748777 Nice trips and all, but if you think about it like that, you're playing Platinum games the wrong way.
These are games that are meant to be mastered, my friend. You can't get the full experience out of them by popping the disc in and just playing the (weak) story. The point is to practice, git gud to where you can pull off ridiculous and stylish shit, and then make all the rankings your bitch. They put tons of moves and hidden collectibles that you probably won't utilize in one playthrough; that should be a sign that it's a type of game that's made to be replayed.
>>13750393 >/m/ is one of the best boards Please, the only reason for that is that we don't have a bunch of shitty memes, which results in these cancerous crossboarders bringing their own shitty memes here instead of simply stop using them and encouraging others to do the same.
is there a Guide to all Transformers Series?. i watched some of them in my childhood but i barely remember anything from those serie so, i want to know what are the best series of the franchise to do a marathoning
Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory do now have a US release, so they're technically not Japanese-exclusive.
The bulk of the franchise is written, storyboarded, and originally-voiced by westerners (although more of them are Canadian than most might think). It's paid for by western studios and made for a western audience. An American company owns Transformers, Takara just has distribution rights in Japan nowadays. They outsource a lot of the animation, but so does The Simpsons.
>>13752154 There's like 9 Japanese series vs 7 with any western involvement. Not to mention it's a Japanese toy line in the first place. This is like saying we can't talk about Zoids on /m/ because the UK comic came before the anime. Fuck off.
>>13746607 >What I want is for Shockwave to have a bigger role in most TF stuff.
He ran a 5(?) million year long JUST AS PLANNED style plan where he almost collapsed the entire universe into a singularity to power himself/cybertron. The culmination of which saw pretty much every Autobot/Decepticon around duking it out and trying to stop him.
>>13754871 I think my favorite Shockwave is the cartoon one, where he kept Cybertron exactly the same way Megatron left it for millions of years.
I don't like when Shockwave is traitorous, since then he just sort of becomes Competent Starscream, but it's really cool when he's probably the closest to an actual robot of any Cybertronian. Hugely intelligent, but without vision.
>>13754965 >but it's really cool when he's probably the closest to an actual robot of any Cybertronian. Hugely intelligent, but without vision
That's almost always what Soundwave is though. Shockwave also usually isn't quite like Starscream when he is more rebellious. He'll work with Megatron if it plays in his favor. Starscream usually won't.
>>13755759 You heard why, right? They got a new show runner who went rogue, and got a new Hasbro product director who went insane.
Prime was a fucking mess behind the scenes. Despite that I really like it, but I think that's a testament to the writers and the animators. They were putting together episodes in a ridiculously short amount of time because they were always on right deadlines, so the fact that the show was still pretty good was a miracle.
>>13757540 >Only after michael bay has the transformers had a significant input from the west in terms of character design and toy design.
The entirety of early Transformers fiction was written by Westerners, up until the line was discontinued in the west. Most 1986 toys onwards were Western designs- Cyclonus, Kup, etc. were all Hasbro. Beast Wars was engineered by Kenner, not Takara, and all the fiction was western in origin.
In fact, most Transformers series are written and designed by Westerners and engineered by Japs. Transformers is very firmly a both Western AND Eastern property.
>>13757598 >Most 1986 toys onwards were Western designs- Cyclonus, Kup, etc. were all Hasbro. The '86 movie designs proper were by the cartoon staff before the toys, and the head designer for that was a Filipino guy.
>>13745834 scummy marketing 101 anon. Realse a low budget movie with the same title/ premence (most of the time) as the next big blockbuster movie about to be realsed. And then realse around the same date in hopes of tricking old cunts to buying the movie for little jimmy. Its what the Asylum has always been doing.
>>13757540 People who claim Transformers is Japanese because of Diaclone baffle me. Diaclone didn't have Autobots, Decpiticons, Cybertron, energon, Primus, Unicron or any of the other basic concepts of the franchise.
https://fr-ca.(face on a book).com/KaryuudoFansubs/posts/467941366747265 >Just a quick update for everyone on Beast Wars II. We're approximately 80% done subbing, so keep your eyes open for the official release announcement in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience, and are looking forward to sharing this release with you all Bless these folks for making a 2016 miracle happen.
>>13763261 My best guess is, when you talk about it in an environment that's insane, rather than normal, the effect is reversed.
>>13777354 I just got Devestation today and am loving it. I tried to start on Commander/Hard mode, since I'm used to Platinum Games at this point, but the first boss devastated my ass back to Warrior/Normal.
>>13754843 I don't think I know enough about the franchise to choose a favorite. But when I watched Armada, my introduction to the franchise, back when it was getting new episodes on Cartoon Network. I remember like Starscream the most. But I haven't seen that show since then so I don't remember much about it actually beyond me thinking it was the coolest pokemon rip off ever. Oh, and at the time I had no idea Transformers even existed in any other way, never heard of it till then.
>>13781108 Armada is on the whole not a very good cartoon, but it has a lot of really excellent ideas and characters.
A Starscream who becomes and Autobot and redeems himself hasn't been done since, and things like Sideways playing both sides, Scavenger being a double agent, and that car guy who was an ex-Autobot left to die by his friend were all cool stories that didn't get explored as much as they should have.
I think my favorite Armada character comes down to Demolishor, though. He's not to bright, he's only good for blowing things up, and he's pretty much the lowest rung on the Decepticon totem pole. There's an episode where all the 'cons are at base and everyone has gone off to their corners to scheme against each other, and Demllishor is just wandering the halls trying to clean up the mess all the others left all over the base because nobody else is going to do it.
He's just the simple put-upon enlisted soldier in an army full of mad generals.
>>13780868 I just marathoned the game and good lord was that one of the highlights. It was like that one fight in ZOE 2, but without the basic decency of a lock-on camera and an overpowered upgrade. I played through it as Optimus first, and I plan on playing through as Grimlock next. I love the fact that he has grapple moves, even if those won't be useful on some enemies and bosses, and his running in Dinosaur mode is the best thing.
>>13783852 Maybe the Saban dub would make it funnier (in a "I can't believe how bad these jokes are kind of way"), but the first episode of the Japanese version did not inspire much confidence when I watched it a few months back.
>(Possibly?) good Liokaiser finally coming out >New Dinoking happening right now >MP Starsaber >The entire Victory Con crew minus the extremely dead Blackshadow have showed up in MTMTE teasing at a final fuck you against the entirety of the Autobots >All that's left Road Caesar and maybe the side bots
Now hopefully they don't shit the bed and maybe we'll get a Deathsaurus to round everything off for 2016 being the year of Victory.
>>13784211 We've already got every mold that makes up Leokaiser from other Combiner Wars figures. He'll be good.
The only problem is that Leozack supposedly has a weird altmode that's supposed to be Deathsaurus, and the Brawl mold has a fucked up waist that might get retooled.
>>13788116 It really wasn't though. Animated was more lighthearted but it definitely wasn't a gag show.
What they did was consolidate everything people really liked from other series into one continuity, with a more focused cast. The things people complain about, like the human enemies, were done to save the Decepticons for important things, since they stop being imposing once you beat them every week.
It was also the last time we were able to have an Optimus who was anything other than a bland Messiah figure (except for Bay Prime obviously, who is a psychopath.)
I finally started watching Car Robots. It's kind of surreal since I've been watching a lot of Braves lately and the animation is pretty much identical to every other early 2000's anime where the digital look only serves to make the crappy art even more obvious.
>>13799718 No. No generals. You want to have ongoing discussions about transformers. Great. But no general. No numbers, no posting guides, no code of conduct in the opening post, no tripfags that post only in those thread, no thread specific memes, no referring to your thread as it's own board and constantly shit talking the rest of /m/. Just have a damn transformers thread. /m/ doesn't need more generals.
He had a good period when he was coming out of his fundamentalist christian youth period in the mid-2000s, back when he was still doing It's Walky and was mainly just interested in telling good stories.
I generally wonder what the fuck happened to turn him into such a raging tumblr stereotype.
First, Willis has been a webcomic author since the days of internet 1.0. He's done several full series, but it was during his time doing Shortpacked! (2008ish-2013 or so i'd say) that he became known for using his comic as a way to lambast the Transformers Collectors community for being difficult to please, swift to complain, and generally having a severe lack of understanding in the basic economics behind the toy business and a completely off-based sense of nostalgia for original figures against modern ones. He's stated such "Controversial" opinions as third party TF designers being thieves, plastic being okay, and so on all through the comic.
Frankly i'm all for that, as TF collectors are some of the most autistic manchildren this side of 4Chan. But he /also/ became much more of a social justice crusader during this time, using the comic as a soapbox to complain about whatever was going on in comics, transformers, nerd culture or just plain real-life as it applies to sexism, racism, and homo- or transphobia.
His current webcomic is a new college series that occasionally dips into whole arcs about that kind of crap and he himself is just incredibly insufferable and sanctimonious about the whole damn thing.
He's a very "my way or the highway" guy, I've interacted with him a few times before. He used to be more normal on forums and stuff but now he'll just mock anyone who disagrees with him and block them. His old IRC hangout actively dislikes him now despite them being good friends years ago.
>>13815615 Rad should have hosted an end of episode spotlight thing where he talks about characters. Would have been a great way to flesh out the Mini-Cons. Even if he would get the names wrong half the time.
I never caught it when it was on, but I've wanted to get into Transformers more recently. I can deal with bad animation most of the time, hell the original is an easy watch, but there's something about late 90s/early 2000s CGI animation that's so off-putting.
Should I power through it, or is it not worth that?
>>13818647 There's been a Weirdwolf rumor for a while. A guy listed a bunch of stuff over on /toy/ claiming to have inside info and its all checked out so far. Wierdwolf and Chromedome were in it and they've not been revealed yet.
>>13818715 Animation's aged incredibly poorly. The plot, when it gets focused on, is one of my favorite Transformers plots. There is a lot of filler though, one could argue some of it doubles as character episodes however.
Did I mention the casting choices were perfect? David Kaye nails it. The fact that he went on to do Animated Prime really shows how much range the guy has.
>>13819086 >Animation's aged incredibly poorly I.... agree and disagree. The issue with Beast Wars is that it spanned a period where CGI advanced by leaps and miles; if anything, people should watch Beast Wars JUST to see how CGI technology advanced over that short period of time.
God Ginrai is the greatest. Optimus Prime with a rocket punch, a shoulder cannon, and a jetpack? Get out of town. That's beyond awesome.
It's also kind of interesting how Ginrai starting out as newcomer and rising to be the commander kind of presages the character arcs for Optimus Primal and Animated Prime, who also started as relative neophytes before growing into the G1 Prime style of stalwart hero.
>>13819584 Yeah, I loved Masterforce, my favorite of the TF anime. Had a nice ongoing plot, a fairly well developed cast (even on the Decepticon side) and some nice action scenes. My only complaint is that some of the other Autobot Godmasters should have gotten more development and the Autobot Pretenders (aside from Metalhawk) fall by the wayside midway through the series.
>God Ginrai is the greatest.
Yeah, Ginrai was cool. Loved his progression from carefree trucker who just wanted to cruise the lanes in his truck to a responsible, but still hotblooded, leader, giving his all to protect the Earth.
>>13820528 >Got enough money at once that I could have ordered all three and something else >Blackarachnia or Slipstream was sold out at each online store that didn't have middleman markup so would have needed the shipping costs from two sellers >End up buying a bunch of used transformers on auction sites instead with the money, spending more on shipping than it would have been if I was ordering the Legends girls. Neet problems.
>>13820548 You're not missing out really. The Windblade mode sucks and the Animated BA is a nicer looking femmebot. Nightbird is the best and she uses the fucked up first run Arcee fists so she can't hold any of her weapons other than her sai, and you can't even shave it down like the US version since her sai are made for the tab.
Legends Arcee is 30 on BBTS. She's the best of the fembots.
>>13808212 >dickass Prowl >Prowlvastator >headmaster SunStreaker >zealot Star Saber >dickass Metalhawk >angry tranny Arcee >mini Magnus >ThunderNEET >asshole undead Prime >Cliffjumper almost got a waifu >Whirl in general IDW is neat, but buttfuck crazy. On the plus side, Sixshot gets to be a badass again and I'm glad he wasn't ruined yet
>>13821373 There's a lot of weirdness to IDW but I feel like for a while it was the strongest the franchise had been for a long time. We were getting characters treated like characters with Star Trek style romps in MTMTE and postwar upheavals ala DS9 in RiD. Starscream got everything he ever wanted and started actually becoming good, Prowl did a lot of evil for the greater good, etc.
Then Dark Cybertron happened and shit on everything. I haven't read since then but I've heard it finds its footing again but becomes a little overly self-indulgent.
It's kinda funny actually, because the site is fracturing between people who are stupid SJWs and those who are thirty year old dudes that have limits in accepting progressive bullshit. I hang out with a few nice people there and we talk on Skype but shit if the place isn't going to be a ghost town in a few years.
>>13821586 My main beef with current IDW TF is that most Primes are now CUNTS. Yeah I know some people like some shades of grey in their fiction, but damn. Nova Prime was cool because he was THE one Prime guy that shiver Prime lineage's timbers. The one guy that Omega Spreem referred as a fake Prime because how unPrime he is.
>>13821640 I think that's happening to most of the franchise's fans, and a lot of it was spurred by IDW. There's a lot of people who froth at the mouth in hatred over it, and there's another group who were brought in by it.
This very site is a good example. Look at how threads on /toy/ erupt into a shitstorm of denying that Transformers should have fiction at all, and how /co/ has a gaggle of fangirls who shit up any thread they come in contact with with yaoi. You can't talk about the entirety of the franchise on one board or the other because both boards have a cluster of posters trying to keep the other side out.
I'm not generally one for "truth is in the middle" shit, but this is a case when both sides are being fucking autistic (although the Tumblr side is way worse.)
Speaking of autism, does anybody know anything about the Tumblr girl that stalks James Roberts and is obsessed with Autism? Like, she's directly called James Robert autistic and meant it as a compliment.
>>13821656 My biggest beef is with the changes to Cybertron's history and the way the race works, like the history and the creation of the race. I'm honestly glad they didn't go with the Aligned idea of the Primes (they're Greek Gods and Optimus is Jesus, reincarnation and all,) but I'm a strong proponent of the cartoon's origin where they were created as consumer goods and found sentience. I've always felt like the story of a race and their god being created by another race before making their own destiny in the universe to be a much more interesting sci-fi story than atechnogenesis or a totally mystical origin.
Nah he's a poster on the Allspark. He's autistic but has Opinions and he wants to share them with you.
There's the usual SJW crap but also he's against attempts to cure autism because he doesn't want to see the erasure of his autistic "culture" and identity and wears it as a badge of honour. It was hilarious because he never says anything bad about muslim terrorists on the politics board except for the San Bernadino shooting because it was at a place for disability support so he was incredibly angry.
He's also majorly triggered by any attempt to use or reference something from Armada because he's in love with that show and thinks the western fanbase hates it and any time they reference it they're mocking it (even if it's just a reference).
This is of course the problem because it means he can't hang out with the IDW sycophants because Roberts referenced some Jap TFs (which he reacts poorly too always) and did an arc with some mentally-impaired characters recently which made him seethe with rage at being misrepresented.
>>13821753 >Transformers Fans When Transformers Are Related to Issues Real People Face To play devil's advocate, million years old robomen that can turn into space segways might see human logic and feeling as alien concepts.
>>13822078 Of course it looks like a boy, they just took the molds and slapped feminine heads on them. Never expect effort from Hasbro. As for the colors, that's a sad reminder, like Windblade, of what happens when you let the 'fans' vote on something
>>13822090 No. Toy-fiction wise these are normal female robots from Cybertron that work as Rust Sea natives like a mix of Mad Max and ninjas, while in the comic they are colony world natives that evolved feminine characteristics, possibly from a female Prime or her descendants that were exiled or killed in the warring states era that are tools of the theocracy. In both case, they have been female as long as they have been alive.
>Victorion was created after the Torchbearers - a team of explorers who seek ancient Cybertronian artifacts - were accidentally exposed to the energies of the Enigma of Combination. As all six of her components are devout followers of the Mistress of Flame, the religious head of Caminus, Victorion gets a leeeeeeetle bit tetchy when someone threatens sacred relics. And by "tetchy" we mean "summons the wrath of god upon their heads". Between her whirling blade weapons, gravity-control powers, and the ability to fly under her own power, she's more than capable of some righteous smiting.
>Heretics and defilers must pay for their crimes!
They do realize this is the transformers universe, and not 40K right? I kid, I kid. I know that 40k didn't invent religious zealots.
>>13822120 Such is the nature of a long-running shared universe. That person's post reminds me. We never got comics depicting Arcee back when she would have been Synesthesia Jhiaxus creation hunter, with a bunch of weird monsters that invoke a strange mixture of organic and mechanical design, such as one that has her behaviors like a mixture of a parasitic wasp and a mantis, one that is similar to an anglerfish with small males dangling off her, and one that is apparently identical to Arcee.
>>13822135 Well Unicron and Fallen exist, old Marvel comics has cartoony cultist and megalomaniacs, G2 has the personification of Transformers' evils, early IDW has cartoony scientists and megalomaniacs, and now late IDW has fullblown psychopaths including Autobots.
>>13819243 For me I have a soft spot for 9os cgi. It looks gross to some people but I genuinely like it, since it does alot differently than current cgi animation. it's like a blending of current cgi and older animation.
>>13821746 Last Stand was amazing, but like >>13822051 said his ego became too big. Whereas before it was like Star Trek with robots, now it's more like Doctor Who. There's a lot of talk about gender identity and Tumblr stuff, and there's an issue about dancing.
I can't offhand remember, but I think the Transformers comic now has more M&M and F&F relationships than straight ones. The only straight one I can think of is that male Transformer and the human girl.
Yo cool it with that shit. The "but aliens!" is the go-to excuse for both Tumblr and old school shitters to do dumb things. That's the same mindset that gave us "everyone must be gay because ALIEN ROBOTS!" and "Arcee is a trannie because no gender because ALIEN ROBOTS!"
Transformers are fiction written by humans, about human problems, so they reflect us. Trying to attach hard scifi traits to them always ends up weird and off putting and alienating for this franchise since its such soft scifi in the first place.
It's also odd how the "alien robots" thing only ever comes up in regard to gender and sexuality. Biology, physiology, language, and anything else never come up. Everyone has a humanoid body, two hands, five fingers, a human face, etc.- even cases like Whirl or Shockwave are retconned into once being "normal" instead of just being different model machines. Everyone speaks English, uses English or Latin terms for things, and things like that.
We understand though that that's just a shorthand for the reader to understand and relate to these characters and their world, though. Only in the last couple years has gender not been treated as part of the human condition.
>>13823431 The fun thing about TF pairing is that they're all open to interpretation, there was a lot on naughty shit before. Roberts fucking ruined all the fun by confirming it, as well with pairings made of Literally Whos because fanwank and self-indulgence, but that's just me. What happened to Ratbat anyway? I missed her.
>>13823898 Yeah but it wasn't Arcee, and fucked up both her character and the entire book until not long ago.
Arcee started getting better when she started hanging out with the Dinobots and carved herself an Autobot symbol, but she's still too edgy. But Furman's "no girls allowed" thing is pretty shit, especially since there's been girls in the series since year two.
>>13824085 >but it wasn't Arcee, and fucked up both her character To be fair, depending on WHO you ask, that is also the case for most of the characters in IDW. Some Star Saber fans might be upset with his portrayal, some Ultra Magnus fans might balk at the idea of Minimus, some Megatron fans might be seething in rage about Autobot Megatron, and average TF fans might see the relationships in current IDW as unnecessary, and so on. You can't please anyone afterall.
>>13824136 Nothing if it works for the character. Pharma being edgy is totally cool. It's a problem when you turn Princess Momjeans the nurturing soft spoken robot girl into am edgy murderer. It's not who she is.
Can you imagine how IDW would respond to Daniel?
>>13824306 Magnus/Ambus didn't change anything other than saying White Prime wasn't canon, which its not ever really been; Ratchet said that the Magnus we know has always been Ambus, so we never knew him any other way.
Megatron got a dramatic change, yes, but that was part of a character arc. He evolved into an Autobot for plot reasons. Arcee was just introduced into IDW as another character.
Star Saber is a different can of worms. He did get fucked up, and really should have been a different character. From what I understand he was based on old Fanfic characterizations from before translated media was available. I'm not sure if Star Saber being a zealot was an actual rumor passed around at the time by people or if it was just created out of nothing, but I've heard it was pretty common back in the BBS days.
Now that we know otherwise, though, its jarring as shit. If anything Star Saber is closer to Thunderclash. IMO, they should retcon that guy as someone naming himself Star Saber after the character (or the sword...?)
>>13824315 And some would say Arcee is a generic fembot while think Star Saber as an ideal father figure. Thing is not everyone share the same idea about what a character should be. If IDW change a character or plot to their own liking, some will definitely see it as an improvement or a fuck up, but not everyone.
>>13824390 Arcee has been an edgy spider, a flat emotioned "queen" of a race of drones, a teacher and guide of a weapon of mass destruction, pink Decepticharge, a clusterbot of three semi-autonomous motorcycles, and an edgy blue assassin, yes Arcee role can vary.
>>13824521 IDW Arcee is just another version of Arcee. They just fucked up, to you. What you think Arcee as a character is, others might not think the same with you, and this others might just happen to be the people that decide who Arcee should be, officially.
>>13824618 Perhaps, if you have a problem with understanding linear time.
IDW Star Saber has nothing to to Star Saber. IDW Arcee has nothing to do with Arcee. There is nothing about those characters that draw from the past of the characters that they are supposedly based on.
>>13824678 But that's my point, they got nothing to do with their own different version in all but name. It's just that is how IDW portray it and Hasbro acknowledged it as them, but IDW version. You and I may not going to like it but that's how it is. That's it. Why are we arguing about this again?
>>13824692 Because character foundation. If you're gonna do a 180/twist/subversion, you're still gonna need a reference. Which is the entire idea of Shattered Glass, but that's just an example.
>>13824756 Alright in this case, name only and Decepticon allegiance, as well an excuse for Prime writers put out a new character with established name but not picking yet another established characters (ie. Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, etc.). Same with Animated Bulkhead. There you go.
>>13824809 Because name and pink color is the foundation of Arcee, she is the first pink Transformers with the name Arcee and that's what defined her first. And building unused role is an idea in a bowl of ideas.
>>13824876 Except Prime Breakdown is noted he used to be a member of a group called Stunticons and got /fit/ after the War on Cybertron. And G1 Shockwave is all over the place in what he does from loyal housewife to emotionless usurper.
