Char's poor life.

It irritates me Char ended up becoming a fucked up mess not because of original intent but because he became victim to a crossbreed of hyper-refined tomino and constantly rejected projects.

Seriously, how many Char versions did Tomino draft?

Gunboy(or whatever the working title was at the time)
Gundam*
Zeta proposal (first half animated)
First and Second ZZ proposals
Zeta last quarter*
CCA proposal
Second CCA proposal
Second half of third CCA proposal (aka the CCA we got)*

I've given asterisks to the actually animated ones, and listed them chronologically as they were conceived. So the char we got was a weird mishmash. Yet we still examine Char as a character through his animated appearances, because we don't know enough nipponese to fully translate whatever the public has of the scrapped proposals. And thats a bit sad. Hell, /m/en have analyzed to hell and back almost every aspect of such a fundamentally broken portrayal of a character for 20 years, imagine what we could have got if sunrise's executives weren't daft. This by extension applies to all of early UC, from the trials tomino went through to get a coherent narrative animated to the backwards saturation through side stories and special snowflakes. Every time I want to like early UC I see Char once and remember why I don't.
