are you even from around here

This is too fucking meta

Arthur C. Clarke has /m/ material but childhood's end isn't it.
>b-but it has spaceships

Is the miniseries actually good? I avoided it due to how much they changed in just the trailer. I dont want to watch my favorite sci-fi novel ruined.

minor changes at best , give it a try

We can grandfather clause him in. We do it for people like Nagai after all, so I see no reason we can't do the same for others

Was that thing ever imported officially in some obscure toyline in the '80s?
>>
>>13740570
I literally just watched Part 1. Overall, the changes were noticeable but minor. If that's true for the other two parts then it will be an excellent adaptation.

I tend to turn my nose up at any Sci-fy Channel series on general principle

This one turned out OK.

How about being a major science-fiction work that influenced other things we talk about like Eva?
>>
>>13739014
>implying we have mods
>>
>>13743246

But it didn't influence Eva. Anno has been very upfront about his influences, and denies having read the book. I see no reason to doubt him. The similarities are very vague.

>But it didn't influence Eva

Not directly, but it did influence some of the series that were the main inspirations for Eva, Mobile Suit Gundam and Ideon in particular.
>>
>>13743316

Anno has actually said he never read Childhoods End or 2001? I have a really hard time believing that.

>Mobile Suit Gundam and Ideon
*Devilman and Ultraman
Ftfy

Its believable, because Childhoods End had such a major impact that I knew how it was going to end even though I had never seen or read it before myself.

It was stunningly original when it first came out, but has been ripped off and copied and reimagined so often since then that its offspring have made the original seen generic.

Don't forget the term "Human Instrumentality" from Cordwainer Smith's novels.
