The spinoffs were made to be Gundam for kids. Their manga had shonen-tier plots and their kits were filled with gimmicks. Older fans could easily jump in as well, seeing how the designs reference designs from the show.

HGUC Zaku II is one of the shittiest modern Gunpla ever made in general.

Anyways if you were really that desperate there was already an HG Zaku that used the same design as the PG and the original MG and the SD. They're supposed to be the 08th MS Team version because that was -the- Zaku for a decade but basically every 3D rendition had a bigger head and less pronounced skirt armour detailing and shit to make them look less distinctly OVA-like.

Because Origin started during that time period the manga design was very close to the 08th design and the OVA design is based off of that but drawn by Katoki so a lot of the details are the same.

It was still 10 years ago, the hguc line has improved by a massive amount since then.

A lot of the early hguc had blocky proportions and low detail, not just the zaku II. Just look at the GM and zaku III.the Aesthetic changed over the years to leaner proportions.
