One of the central themes of the show is family. It's all family this, family that, how far would you go for your family, is your family the people you're related to or the people you trust? The whole show is about the relationships people have with other people and what it means to consider others 'your family'. Similarly, it's about how much trust you put in the people around you and thus how much of yourself you let them know. As Tekkadan becomes more familial and let their emotions show, we'll probably end up hearing about lots more siblings that they're putting through school or lost contact with or whatever. I'm not saying it's some kind of masterpiece or even very good, I'm just saying you shouldn't be surprised.

Also, of course Gjallarhorn knew the guns were there and could easily storm in before being easily repelled. The guy pulling the strings set the whole thing up so there would be a revolution that Kudelia could be killed - he obviously hyped her and Tekkadan up massively to the colony workers and tricked Tekkadan into transporting them weapons, so they'd rebel and he could have his uprising. I suppose he was only guessing there'd be a shootout but I wouldn't imagine it mattered much in the long run - as long as Kudelia was seen to be supporting armed revolution, and was then killed, shit would start kicking off all over.

This new OP is relatively generic too (it's not really pop though; not even pop rock), but there is some thought put into the composition.
