Well considering the original Gundam series was cancelled during it's broadcast run and was only brought back due to two of the biggest "make more money off this" things that exist even today (merch/toys and recap movies) that exploded it into the franchise it is today, then yeah

What exactly is the appeal of recap movies? Before everyone had a VHS player I could understand but these days I don't get why anyone would wanna pay money to see a mangled up version of something they already saw for free.

Gundam III had a ton of new footage and the Gundam movie trilogy in general did a fair bit to clean things up for other new works.

Movies were still a hell of a lot cheaper than spending hundreds of dollars on series DVDs in the early 2000s.

I'm not sure if there were fansubs or raws of the tv series floating around, but the AnimeVillage.com old commercial VHS releases didn't have the TV as an option

Before DVD it was because it was eaiser than watcing VHS of the whole series, and in some cases VHS of the whole series wasn't even possible unless you taped it yourself.

Now a days they're basically pointless, but they still do them because...well it's a thing they do, and people go to see it because....well it's sometime from that series and they have to see all of it.

Okay off topic but, these are the gundam series I've watched.

I just finished zeta yesterday, kinda a dark ending/cliffhanger that I assume continues in double zeta.

My friend told me double zeta was bad and that I could ignore it and go watch other series that interest me, right now I got 0083, Unicorn, and Counter Attack all downloaded.

Should I skip zz gundam?
Also, if I do watch zz gundam, does it have a dub?
Original gundam, zeta, 08th ms team, and war in the pocket have all had really god dubs but I was led to believe the rest go down in quality.

Take some time off before you start ZZ if you choose to watch it. Watch 0083 or something non-Gundam in between.
I honestly abhor it but it's important to Unicorn and some of the MS are pretty great.

There's a throwaway line or two in CCA about ZZ, but if you're going to watch ZZ anyway, you might as well wait.

If you haven't watched the 0079 movie trilogy yet, give it a go, it does some interesting stuff and CCA references it.

I agree with the other guy that ZZ is bad, but it has an incredibly good middle part somewhere in the 30s.

Man, I couldn't do ZZ at all. I went through 79/Zeta and the side stories over a year or so, good time, Zeta got a bit bad. But ZZ is just impassable. I've heard all about the tone change it hits, but I don't have 12 net hours to waste before it gets good.
