That was mostly a reaction to the hype. It looks gorgeous and expectations were rather high.
It ended up being just... blah. Not insultingly bad, but not a real worthwhile investment of the time unless you want to fap to the CGI.

This. It shows that Japan actually can do CG when they pump enough money into it, but at the same time the story was against everything that Harlock is.
